Fear and Loathing in Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Waiting on a plane, and the incredible freakout over the Delaware GOP Senate primary caught my attention, so I registered a mild complaint at the American Spectator blog:

One of two outcomes is possible: Mike Castle wins on Sept. 14, in which case all this psychotic raving about Christine the Dangerous Right-Wing Catastrophe will appear unseemly in retrospect; or O’Donnell wins on Sept. 14, and Democrats will then congratulate themselves that Republicans have already done their dirty work for them.

You can read the whole thing. What’s amazing to me is the fanatical reaction of people who never said a peep about the Delaware primary until the Tea Party Express announced it was going to spend some money to beat Mike Castle. Now, they’re suddenly experts on the Atrociously Awful Very Bad Candidate Christine O’Donnell.

The suddenness and synchronicity of the anti-O’Donnell online onslaught is enough to make me wonder if there is some equivalent of Journolist among conservative bloggers, to which I am not privy.

Over here, we’ve been O’Donnell fans since March, when Smitty did a post about Christine. I first blogged about her in early June — nearly three months ago.

So why didn’t we get any warnings back then from all these True Blue Conservative  Stalwarts who are now screaming that Christina O’Donnell is a trainwreck, a nightmare and the Fifth Horseman of the Apocalypse?

I dunno. I’m just sitting in an airport bar — I can see Russia from here! — and wishing I was back home.

CHRISTINE O’DONNELL for U.S. SENATE

I am a Delaware resident, registered Republican who has not voted for RINO Mike Castle since his first Congressional campaign. I have felt for a long time that Castle is a reflection of the greatest problem of the GOP in DE: the party is dominated at the top by center-left Republicans and the base is conservative. The result has been a lack of excitement here for decades. I can see the GOP being a third or fourth party in DE soon if the leadership keeps forcing the Castles and Michelle Rollins type candidacies at us.

I must have missed it when RINOs voted for Obamacare. Nevertheless, nominating far-out-of-the-mainstream wingnuts Like O’Donnell and Sharron Angle save seats for democrats, who ALL voted for Obamacare. It is in the nature of humans to push our luck, and with a republican landslide in the making you gotta expect a few far righties. When Harry Reid returns next term, I would rather have Mike Castle opposing him on SOMETHING than see him get unwavering support from Joe Biden’s old seat.

There is no way O’Donnell can get elected. She wants to be a United States senator, yet she takes time during her campaign to speak out against masturbation, of all things. That is a fundamentally unserious candidate – one who will get few republican votes, and no moderates.

Position-wise, I really want to support Christine, it’s just that I have trouble getting past that “rumor” ad. I’d like a candidate that I support to have a little class. Just a little, please.

For 16 years, Mike Castle has been the de facto and titular head of the Republican party in Delaware. During his tenure the parties capital has gone from a AAA+ rating down to B- and all because of his failed leadership and the deals he struck with Carper and Biden which included DUMPING Bill Roth. This man is a train wreck and isn’t qualified to serve as dog catcher<-phrase on loan from the current chairman Ross..

I have known Christine for 18 years now. These are lies going around about her! Sean, you need to go look at her webpage christine2010.com and go to Christine Counterpunches to read the truth. She is honest. I believe she misspoke in that radio interview too. She’s working on little sleep and when she did that interview, she had just found out the day before that she is winning in the polls in 2 out of 3 Delaware counties. She is also polling to within 2 points of Castle according to a NSON Opinion Poll. I think I attributed that right. Folks keep trying to portray her as a perennial candidate, but that’s not right. Castle IS as he’s held public office since 1966. So tell me who’s always running for office!

The State GOP Chair is doing Castle’s bidding and the media has been carrying his water by not doing their research and homework to ensure objectivity and accuracy in their reporting. The National GOP Committee is also engaging in attacking her w/ these slanderous lies. They’re the ones who have told him to go on a negative attach against her. Folks check out her positions and then ask yourself “why does Castle refuse to debate her?” He’s scared!! She can pull this off and needs everyone’s help in doing so!
