Oh, My: Liberal Bloggers Getting Tired of Putting Out (Propaganda) for Obama?

Posted on | September 23, 2010 | 114 Comments

“We’re the girl you’ll take under the bleachers but you won’t be seen with in the light of day.”
Susan Madrak, Crooks and Liars

Never mind exactly why Madrak went off on David Axelrod during a conference call today. The point is that she’s right.

In order to win elections, Democrats have to pretend to share the values of the American middle class. They can’t afford to associate themselves too publicly with the grungy leftoids who are, in fact, the driving force behind the Democratic policy agenda.

I have no idea what inspired Ms. Madrak’s evocative metaphor.

UPDATE: You know, the difference with conservative bloggers — beyond the demonstrably greater pulchritude of our lady-bloggers — is that we’re not so willing to shovel shit for politicians.

The whole point of calling this blog “The Other McCain,” after all, was to distinguish myself from that two-faced backstabbing weasel who got the 2008 GOP presidential nomination. (David Nolan for U.S. Senate!)  And just today, Erick Erickson, Philip Klein and others panned the Republicans’ “Pledge to America.”

The conservative blogosphere staged an uprising when the GOP establishment tried to shove Charlie Crist down our throats, fought tooth and nail to defeat a sitting Republican senator in Alaska, and recently dumped the “safe” Mike Castle in favor of Christine the Teenage Witch. We’re rather lose an election than to get screwed over by people who don’t respect us.

Our liberal moonbat counterparts dismiss us as dangerous extremist wingnuts, but we actually expect the politicians we support to pursue our wingnut extremist agenda — whatever that agenda may actually be, because at this point, all we care about is electing people who will vote “no” to Obama’s agenda.

Frankly, I liked the moonbats better when they were completely out of power, foaming at the mouth, camping out in ditches with Cindy Sheehan, and trying to elect that hopeless loser Ned Lamont.

Don’t worry, Susie Madrak, you’ll get back there yet!

UPDATE II: Susie “Suburban Guerrilla” Madrak tells her version of her exchange with Axelrod:

[H]ow am I supposed to motivate my readers when you treat them like the town ho?
Or words to that effect. I do it all for you, my beloved readers.

And what readers they must be! She gets 14 comments on a post, but averages barely 1,000 visits a day.  In recent months, we’re averaging about six times that traffic, and seldom get more than 10 comments on a post.

UPDATE III: Welcome, Instapundit readers! And thank you, Professor. The ‘Lanche arrived while I was toiling away on an answer to that burning question: “What’s wrong with people like Susie Madrak?”

A few minutes after I first read the linked WaPo article, it occurred to me that her metaphor might be inverted. It’s more like having a politically useful “girlfriend” to have on your arm and show you’re the right sort of whatever you are, while privately you won’t get anywhere near her.

Somewhere a backstabbing weasel has thrown down his knife and is weeping pitifully, at the shame and insult at having been compared to John McCain. I pat his furry little back in a hopeless attempt to console him.

I hadn’t read Crooks and Liars for ages, this post prompted me to go have a look, and what I see (and smell) there is fear. They are desperate:

    Dear Senior Citizens,

I know you think Glenn Beck is the new Jesus and the black guy in the Oval Office is a Muslim pretender, but for the love of all that’s holy, turn off Fox News and pay attention.

Yes, any senior citizen who strays by their site is sure to be persuaded by a piece that begins like that.

    (sorry, hit Go too fast)
Axelrod talks the happy promise talk with the lefty blogs, lots of “ain’t we the greatest pair?” Gets them to get their friends thinking he’s all that and a hunk o’ burnin’ lurve. Public ego stroking for a big election. But when it comes time for action, he won’t get his… uh, Axelrod anywhere near their own hot-button issues. Not that I can blame him, of course, but I wasn’t the one making winks and promises.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the “Liberals are chatty bitches with nothing of substance to say” syndrome myself, especially over at that Leftwing cesspool you linked to yesterday.

Someone better watch out. Us Right-Wing rednecks have a patent and a trademark on “Hippie Punching”.

And we didn’t give Axelrod a license to use it. So he best watch himself, or we’ll be seeing him in Court!

I would offer to just meet him behind the Bleachers, but he might get the wrong idea. Then again, having him totally disillusioned as well as whupped up on would be even better.

Stace, you seldom get more than ten comments a post because you guys are always turning them out so fast it just keeps moving forward.

The only time you can get really extended discussions is when you are posting some young up and coming talent from the South singing ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ so badly you have to laugh, and some other belle of questionable restraint decides to break bad with her.

It is bloggers like Madrak that shilled for their Real World Community that those not of their RWC were being paid and pushed by the Bush Administration to put out talking points for it. Yet, on the right, I saw policy analysis, economic analysis and examining if the things being pushed were any good at all. It wasn’t the left that started Porkbusters, but the right, as an example.

Unfotunately this is yet another example of how the left criticizes those on the right of something evil and nefarious, becoming shills for an administration, and then turn around and do the exact, same thing and then complain when their being shills doesn’t get them any appreciation by anyone. The idea of independent analysis, considering of policy on its impacts and merits… those things never cross over into the RWC echo chamber which is a self-created alternate reality that bears no correlation with the actual world outside their basement windows.

Here’s an interesting thing: Normally when a Conservoblogger badmouths a leftieblogger, the leftieblogger’s readers show up and defend her/him/it. You get snide attacks on the conservoblogger’s sexuality, you get four-letter words, you get flame wars.

In this case all that’s shown up is Susie herself- and she hasn’t been back.

Honeychild, could it be that you have to spend all that time puttin’ out under the bleachers… because you just aren’t that well-liked?

Great put down of back stabbing weasels. Here’s another delusional female of questionable pulchritude writing for the Washington Post.

Petula Dvorak: Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are the Mainstream

A seriously delusional woman writer for the Washington Post casts all you Glen Beck fans who gathered in the hundreds of thousands in Washington, and all you anti-IMF protestors into the same wastebasket. You are nuts, whack jobs and far fringe idiots who befuddle and scare the REAL Middle America, the sane Middle America: the people who watch Steve Colbert and Jon Stewart.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert might actually bring out the real moderates

This writer and thousands of people like her, who were given access to word processors and newsprint once dominated the national conversation. Thanks to a benevolent God, they are now specimens in a zoo.
