Sioux City: Herman Cain Begins Iowa Bus Tour With Noon Speech to Jewish Group

Posted on | August 8, 2011 | 18 Comments

SIOUX CITY, Iowa
Herman Cain just arrived at Eldon’s Restaurant aboard his spiffy new tour bus:

This event is sponsored by the Sioux City Jewish Coaliton. I asked one of the staffers, “Do they have a significant Jewish population in Sioux City?” But the answer was a mystified shrug. Anyway, here is a video tour of the Cain “Common Sense Solutions” bus, inside and out:

I’ll have a report on Cain’s speech later. Right now, he’s meeting backstage with local supporters. Here are a few photos:

Dale Petersen, Cain’s agriculture issues adviser, and Larry Tuel, Cain’s Iowa state director, in the parking lot of the hotel before the start of the bus tour. The hotel was actually in South Sioux City, Nebraska, so you could say that Cain is the first 2012 Republican candidate to visit Nebraska.

Cain’s chief of staff Mark Block behind the scenes at the Sioux City event. I said, “Mark, you look worried.” He said, “The’s just my game face.”

Volunteers staff the welcome table at the Sioux City event.

The compelete schedule for the “Common Sense Solutions” Iowa bus tour is here.

UPDATE: Cain was greeted with a standing ovation by the 60-70 people in attendance. Discussing the tour schedule — which takes a day off Thursday for “debate prep” for the Fox News debate in Ames — Herman Cain said, “You know what I do when I prepare for a debate? I pray.”

You can support Herman Cain at “A Real Leader.”

UPDATE II: Some more photos:

The attendance at the Jewish Coalition luncheon was impressive.

Cain starts his speech. While he was discussing his opposition to the 2009 financial regulation legislation, sponsored by Sen. Chris Dodd and Rep. Barney Frank, Cain said: “Here’s two other problems I have with the Dodd-Frank bill — Dodd and Frank.”

Cain talks to an Iowa newspaper reporter while, at left, his campaign staffer Nathan Naidu waits. The speech ran long and dozens of people wanted to have their photo taken with the candidate, which had the staff slightly panicked about keeping on schedule to their next event in Denison.

Speaking of schedules, I’m running late myself, so that’s it from Sioux City. Hit the freaking tip jar!

Herman Cain is taking the gloves off in relation to Obama’s taxpayer funded bus tour. On Twitter, #ObamaBusNames is a now a popular hashtag among conservatives. Search the tag for some comedy and check out @THEHermanCain — he has named Obama’s  campaign bus “Downgrade One” and @CainStaff is calling for donations based on this theme at http://www.ARealLeader.com (the campaign’s fundraising site).

Population of Iowa, ca. 2010: 3 million and change. Just about 1% of US pop.

And I still don’t care what they think about pretty much anything outside of growing corn. Certainly I don’t want them saying yea or nay on possible candidates.

Herman, hold the pepperoni and sausage on the pizza!

Meanwhile, back in D.C., President Obama get up to speak…BARACKALYPSE NOW

Growing corn, or taking ethanol subsidies? If you take away the ‘free’ money, you get a different answer from them.

The Dow just broke 11,000 (negatively).  Weeee.  Own it!  Herman, remind those Iowans who is running this economy right now and why they “own it.”

The Dow isn’t reacting to the downgrade, it’s the overall economy and the European crisis that is forcing what is a necessary correction.  If default or downgrade were the concern, bond yields would be going up, but instead they are falling, indicating the downgrade has not affected the world’s faith in US paper (sorry, China).  See here:  http://tinyurl.com/lkbld

Bill Clinton once told me campaigns that run on time aren’t going anywhere, because the unscheduled photos and hand-shakes like Cain is experiencing make a popular candidate late.

Of course, I later found Clinton was running late due to intern orientation sessions, but you get the point.

If you haven’t yet read Mr Cain’s commentary this week it is worth your time! It seems “Downgrade One” didn’t the message.

“Enough Talk, Mr. President: Try Something Different” http://bit.ly/noNKqf  This is such perfect commentary that I wish the campaign would make a video of it.  Take a moment to read it.

So is Bill as good as they say in working a room Adjoran?

  • Joe

That is probably correct Adjoran.  But what are the conditions that are causing a loss of faith in the U.S. Dollars….hmmmm….could it be rampant over spending and the printing of more fiat dollars?  But of course the Dems have told us they OWN this economy so they should OWN it when it goes down.

  • The Wondering Jew

There are Jews in Sioux City? Enough for a Coalition? Both “Ann Landers” and her Sister “Dear Abby” were, in reality, nice Jewish girls from Sioux City, Iowa, but other than them, I don’t think I’ve ever met a Jew from Sioux.

Impressive that Cain  could get 60-70 in a room.

  • DaveO

I thought the Dow’s sinking was a reaction to the President’s speech today.

There once was enough of a Jewish community in Sioux City to support two synagogues.  (They have since merged; best estimate I’ve seen is about 300 families.)
