No, Rick, Teleprompters Should Not Be Against The Law

The whole ‘there oughta be a law’ notion is predicated upon the idea of the nanny state enforcing everything. All candidates do it, when they talk about swinging by the store and picking up a case of jobs to fix the economy.

Let the court of public opinion do that. Let us understand that if, unlike a military officer or a hospital intern, if the candidate can’t internalize their message, they are unworthy. Let people recognize that, while occasional teleprompter usage happens for any number of reasons, chronic usage is a sign of weakness. Or, in the extreme case of #OccupyResoluteDesk, total vacuousness.

Ricky-boy’s latest whine against Fox news is just more evidence of Not Ready for Prime Time despite the best efforts of Stacy to report in excruciating detail technical history of Fla and other Mittman $$ buys votes escapades.   FYI Other’s, Rick’s self-immolation  is unrelated to Mitt’s money and Newt’s perseverance.

“Manly man” Santorum is revealing his true self here. He’s a David Frum, “Big Government” Neocon.

When a voter who asked him why he voted for No Child Left Behind and five debt ceiling increases, Santorum brushed him off by saying, “Vote for Ron Paul.”

Was Rick Santorum serious about this?  I thought he was speaking rhetorically (like there “outa be a law…” as a point of discussion).  If he was serious, yeah he is wrong.  As a point of a candidate distinguishing himself on his own speaking skills, fair enough.

Again, we are hearing this second hand.  If he said it seriously that teleprompter use should be “illegal” well then he is really wrong.  So when someone writes a speech for a candidate–is that illegal too?  Give me a break.   Not every great candidate is a Churchill or Pericles.

But I am giving Santorum the benefit of doubt he was only making a point about candidates being able to speak without technical support.

First they came for the teleprompters. But I did not speak out because I did not have a teleprompter. … Then they came for me, and there were no teleprompters left to speak for me.

What happened to your own voice? Did they come for that too, idiot?

First they came for Anamika…well actually they never came for Anamika.  And she sat by the door, tapping her foot thinking, “when is someone going to come and get me?”

Santorum did say it, but it was a dig at Obama – I don’t think anyone took it as a serious proposal.

The older teleprompters used a scrolling text, like a player piano almost.  It’s said LBJ had two speeches ready when he announced the Paris peace talks:  one where he didn’t mention the campaign, and the other, which he gave, where he withdrew.  He only told the operator which to load seconds before the speech was to start.

Nixon, OTOH, never used a teleprompter, only his own written notes on index cards.

I once saw him on C-SPAN give an hour-long speech with no notes that was a brilliant analysis of the world situation right after the fall of The Berlin Wall.

Nixon may have been our smartest president since James Madison.

    What Adjoran says sounds reasonable.
