Hey, @Jack: Smear-Troll @Dan_Verg_ Commits Libel With Fraudulent Tweet

Posted on | April 20, 2012 | 91 Comments

Lots of stuff I just ignore, but this particular Twitter twerp crossed a line: The fake re-Tweet, defaming me as a neo-Nazi.

My late father was wounded within an inch of his life fighting the Nazis — his Army medals, including his Purple Heart, are displayed in my office — and I’ll be damned if I’ll let some obnoxious atheist punk get away with this kind of cheap smear.

“Dan Verg” evidently bears a grudge against “teabaggers,” and has sent a series of recent messages suggesting that Slate political reporter Dave Weigel, author Pamela Geller and talk-radio host Dana Loesch advocate or endorse terrorism.

Given his obvious penchant for defamation, you might ask, what kind of language does Dan Verg use about Republicans? And what is Dan Verg’s attitude toward the late Andrew Breitbart?

Dan Verg is entitled to his obnoxious opinions about such things, but he certainly has no right to USE HIS TWITTER ACCOUNT to falsely portray me as having sent a message I never sent, in an intentional act with the purpose of defaming me as a Nazi sympathizer.

FALSE, MALICIOUS AND INTENTIONALLY DEFAMATORY messages would appear to be a clear violation of Twitter’s terms of service agreement, and I believe that the proprietors of Twitter are under obligation to provide me, as the object of a libelous communication, or my attorney, with contact information for the user “Dan Verg,” in order to facilitate whatever legal action might be pursued.

UPDATE: Holy freaking crap! According to sources on Twitter, @Dan_Verg_ is Florida resident Daniel Vergara who, in an interview two years ago disclosed: “I was very active during the 2004 election, I was second-in-command for the Crystal Beach area of Tampa Bay for the Kerry-Edwards campaign.”

How stupid do you have to be, to engage in the kind of obnoxious defamation Vergara does on Twitter and disclose your identity, when you are employed by a public university? (Still checking this out.)

UPDATE II (Smitty): Woo hoo, Insta-lanche!

UPDATE III: Currently attempting to disambiguate @Dan_Verg_ from other people with the same name, including one employed by a public university where the media relations office says they think this is not their guy. Meanwhile, we find the following letter to the editor sent to the St. Petersburg Times in March 2011

Nonexistent issue
I am so glad our brave state legislators have had the courage to introduce a bill banning sharia law in our beloved Florida.
However, while I applaud this good news, I worry that the very important issue of unicorn leashing has been left undecided. While it may seem unlikely to bleeding-heart liberals that there is any chance unicorns will ever show up, I feel that the sharia bill is the perfect place to deal with the issue of whether or not they should be leashed.
And to those who say that would be a ridiculous, demagogic bill tackling an absolutely nonexistent issue, I say: You can never be too careful.
Daniel Vergara, Palm Harbor

Is this the same Daniel Vergara? Is that name particularly common in Florida? Still checking it out and have communicated my concerns to Twitter.

Let’s be clear, by the way: This isn’t just one of those Godwin’s Law things where someone starts losing an argument and calls his antagonist a Nazi. This character, with whom I had never had any previous interaction, just decided to smear me by doing a fake re-Tweet, to create the false impression that I had praised Adolf Hitler.

This is libel per se, and many, many people can testify to the falsehood of the defamatory impression @Dan_Verg_ was maliciously attempting to create.

    …except:
1- The punk IS an athiest.
2- Athiests DO have a rep- well-earned, and on record in courts of law-  for being thinskinned, whiny little things.
3-The people who sue over crosses on  80-year-old military monuments or who keep people from praying at high school football games don’t describe themselves as “anti-theist”; they proudly call themselves athiests.
Maybe you should go yell at them.

Yes – I think only the federally guaranteed loans are exempt from discharge now, but there is no reason they should be.  The feds could always make the institutions ultimately responsible like other lenders do.

Lawyers are like hookers – they always want to be paid.  If it’s a public university (or even private, come to think of it), they probably have some nuisance fund to avoid calling their insurer for most claims.  That might be enough to pay the lawyer, and sacking the jerk might satisfy Stacy.

David Keever’s point is well made.

You do understand, don’t you, that few (if any) colleges actually loan money to their students?

    That’s what banks are for.

  29. creeper00
    April 21st, 2012 @ 8:47 pm

I understand that, Stacy, but it’s unfair to tar all atheists with the same brush.

I know some really crazy Christians.  That doesn’t mean that everyone who believes in Christ is nuts.

The vast majority of atheists simply want to be left alone with their religious beliefs.  I’m no more interested in converting you to atheism than I am in trying to convince you to paint yourself purple nor do I think you’re nuts for believing in a god.

Atheists are people, too, and most of ’em are pretty nice.  You should get to know a few of us better.

The problem with Barack Obama is not that he’s black…it’s that he’s dangerous. The problem with your troll is not that he’s an atheist…it’s that he’s an asshole.

True, a lot matters on where he was and whose network/equipment he was using when he made tweet. If his employers, the chances of a low to mid six figure settlement (after attorneys fees) is quite feasible.

Your hatred of God is your own business, until you start making it my business.

When someone makes an ass of himself the way this guy did, and I discover that he has likewise made himself obnoxious to others by his anti-religious arrogance, I do not consider this a coincidence.

A contemptuous attitude toward God usually bespeaks a narrow mind and an excess of self-regard.

They’ve been engaging in identity theft and fraudulently impersonating us for weeks in an attempt to destroy our reputations, and now the bastards are calling her at home too.
In my case, they are trying to destroy my reputation while I am fighting potentially serious illnesses so that people won’t want to help me to be able to get the specialized medical care that I need to save my life – so basically they’re trying to kill me:

Please be aware that I and The Lonely Conservative are being impersonated in comments to blogs all over the internet and that leftists are sending disgusting emails to people while they fraudulently impersonate us. If you see comments that appear to be out of character for Lonely Con or me, or you get a nasty email that looks like it’s from one of us, IT IS NOT from us, it is from criminal leftist assholes who apparently think their fraudulent activity is a good way to further the cause of leftism.
