#RomneyRyan Ohio: Shout It Out Loud!

Posted on | August 12, 2012 | 34 Comments

“These are the biggest crowds, some of the biggest enthusiasm that we’ve seen at Romney campaign events . . . This is as loud as I have heard a Romney campaign rally . . . This crowd is fired up. This campaign is fired up right now.”
Jim Acosta, CNN, Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012

Are Republicans in Ohio ready for Mitt Romney’s tour of the Buckeye State? I just got the campaign schedule for Tuesday:

12:30 p.m. ET: American Energy Corporation
43521 Mayhugh Road
Beallsville, Ohio

3:30 p.m. ET: Tom’s Ice Cream Bowl
532 Mcintire Avenue
Zanesville, Ohio

7:00 p.m. ET: Ross County Court House
2 North Paint Street
Chillicothe, Ohio

My wife’s family lives in Ohio, so I’m rattling the tip jar collecting Shoe Leather Fund contributions for this road trip — and I’m excited. As Professor Paul Rahe says of the choice of Pau Ryan as Romney’s running mate:

This will alter radically the dynamics of the race. The money spent by Obama trying to demonize Governor Romney will prove to be money entirely wasted. The election is not going to be about Mitt Romney. . . . It is not going to be about Bain Capital. It is going to be about the failed policies of Barack Obama, about their dangerous character, and about the sober, sound alternative the Republicans represent.

After seeing the massive crowds Saturday in Manassas, Virginia, I’m hoping Republicans in Ohio will turn out the same way. Remember this photo that Susan Ferrechio of the Washington Examiner took from the press bus arriving in Manassas:

Can the Ohio GOP match that? Can they turn out thousands of people to give Mitt Romney a rock-star welcome in the Buckeye State? The Lonely Conservative has this headline:

Romney and Ryan Drawing
Massive Crowds in Swing States

There is no swing state more important than Ohio. The liberal media can spin and lie and misrespresent all they want, but if thousands of people show up for these rallies — c’mon, Ohio Republicans! — that will send a message they can’t miss.

Saturday in Manassas, while we were awaiting the arrival of the Romney-Ryan campaign bus, the warm-up music included a rock anthem by Kiss from the 1976 Destroyer album:

Call all your friends in the neighborhood
And get the party started. . . .
‘Cause it’s time for you to take a stand.
Shout it! Shout it! Shout it out loud!

Make it happen, Ohio!

The United Mine Workers announced last week that they are not going to support Obama for reelection in 2012.  This would be a great opportunity for Mitt to address those miners in Ohio,  Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia with a very simple statement:  “I am going to put you back to work, and I am going to keep you working.”  He really doesn’t need to say anything more than that, I don’t think.

In contrast, Obama’s appearances this year have been in small venues.  They always show the same shot, too – a tight shot of Obama speaking at the podium with a few dozen people standing behind him.  He always has his sleeves rolled up to his elbows, too – as if he ever did an honest day’s work in his whole misbegotten existence.

The camera angle is always that same view, though.  You never see the crowd.  Ever wonder why?  They couldn’t get enough of showing us the teeming, enthusiastic crowds in 2008.  Why not this year?

I’ll tell you why:  it’s the same reason they cancelled the pre-convention rally at Charlotte at the race track – too many empty seats.

The media is busily manufacturing phony polls to keep Democrats’ spirits up and to depress our side, but the truth is that America has had quite enough of this noxious narcissist, his crony capitalism, his socialist rule by decree, and his pusillanimous foreign policy.

    Yes!

Finally, I can pull the lever for Romney because I want to, instead of because I have to.

Ryan is a potential masterstroke, if the permanent GOP campaign consultants don’t mess it up.
God speed to Ohio, Stacy, and I hope it’s fun. I’ll be looking for the stories to cross post.
Oh, and see you in Tampa, too.

But how can Romney/Ryan possibly hope to challenge the energized throngs of Obama supporters?

How about what Sarah Palin could do to the convention if she has been invited to speak there? Golly gee, could not imagine the thickness of the crowds who would like to see her speak..The only problem with Mitt is she would be upstaging him and Ryan and Mitt does not want that to happen or maybe his campaign advisers does not want it to happen much like what Schmidt and Wallace did to the 2008 campaign of McCain/Palin..

So dear readers, what do you think will Sarah bring to the Romney/Ryan campaign if only Mitt has the balls to invite Sarah to the convention?

If nothing else, she would draw some fire as the press became confused over which Republican needed ankle-biting worse.

She’s a Lightning Rod for The Base and the Opposition – the farther away from the convention, and building support for the next crop of Congressional candidates the better.

    Even SHE knows that.

    Smarten up.

They aren’t saying they are “against” Obama, they just aren’t going to support him.  They aren’t supporting Romney either.  But now the rank and file have no pressure to vote for Obama, they are free to vote their conscience.    If Romney comes out very vocally and says “I am going to put you back to work”, that is going to be hard for a lot of those guys to resist.

The people who hate Palin are going to hate her and every conservative and Republican anyway.  Romney should invite her, and waiting to the last minute to announce it is smart.  But she should speak on one of the first two nights, not compete with keynote and nominating speeches, much less acceptance speeches.

It might be a good idea for Romney to send come covert operatives to Obama rallies, and take photos that include the paltry crowds, then when the local media publish the canned Obama shots, they can publish the photos showing the real paltryness of the crowds.

  32. richard40

Ryan has brought the kind of excitement to this campaign that Palin brought to McCain, but Ryan has some brains too, and wont get caught flatfooted by the media, like the inexperienced Palin did.  And also this time, Romney wont abandon his campaign halfway through like McCain did.  And even more important, this time we are running against a real record of failure, instead of nebulous Hope and Change, and phony promisses.
