Why, David Frum?

Posted on | September 21, 2012 | 60 Comments

This is just embarrassing. Grant that he’s already burnt a lot of bridges behind him in an apparent quest to become the Most Famous Republican Who Hates Everything About Republicans — a tough competition with Peggy Noonan these days — but did David Frum really have to go after Michelle Malkin?

As Ace of Spades points out, Frum makes reference to his recent novel, and his novel was brutally panned by Mark Judge.

Having expended much energy lately in an attempt to prevent a thermonuclear blogwar meltdown — evidently with no luck, given the latest ugly incident — I feel a need to emphasize once again just how much I hate this kind of stuff.

There is no rule that every conservative must like (or agree with) every other conservative, but why permit mere dislike or disagreement to become the basis for an all-or-nothing vendetta?

Why push it to the point that your friends feel so embarrassed — indeed, mortified — by your purposeful insults to their other friends?

David, you’re wrong, and I don’t mean incorrect, I mean wrong.

You ought to apologize and re-think whatever the hell you were thinking that got you so far down this road, or else you’ll finish your career guest-blogging at Little Green Footballs.

Update (Smitty): thanks, Instapundit and Daily Pundit!

Because for reasons best known to himself, he’s always wanted to know what it’d feel like to have a girl grab him by the scrotum and pull it all the way over his head. Um, rhetorically speaking, of course.

Malkin’s up to it but she’ll need a running start. Bet she sticks the dismount, tho…

Frum has always been a nasty little man, which was more evident than him being any sort of conservative. Why anyone ever paid any attention to him at all is a mystery. Why anyone still does is downright confounding.

In the case of the latest, ugly incident, @FilmLadd was correct in going after Brooks Bayne because he revealed himself to be a Holocaust Denier.

Frum is not worth a blog war. He is nothing.

Yeah, finally had to unfollow him after that, although he’d been spending more time attacking our side than anything else. I’m thinking a CJ-esque mental meltdown.

I think we should follow the precedent of what my friend, the Chair of the San Diego GOP did. A mayoral candidate split to being an (I). Every person (Consultants and campaigners) related to that campaign were told not to darken the SDGOP ever again.

As Bloggers, we should put out names who deserve to be Persona Non Grata in the GOP — Frum for backstabbing, as well as Noonan. And make sure, all 50 State parties and the National (RNC, NRCC, and NRSC) hold to Our standards.

If we don’t put up with their crap (as Bloggers and activists), they cannot market themselves as something they are not.

But, let the betting begin when Frum switches to the D’s.

Frum is a bright and knowledgeable guy. His problem is that he thinks himself the brightest guy in every room he enters, and expects everyone else to acknowledge it. In other words, he’s a narcissist who bitterly resents those who fail to acknowledge his universal and unfailing brilliance.

I haven’t read his novel, but based on the two scenes quoted by Judge, Frum has a long, long way to go before he can be considered a fiction writer. “Her tousled brown hair and big matching eyes…” Tousled eyes, is it, or matching eyes? His phrasing is embarrassingly clumsy.

He’ll be lucky to get to guest blog at LGF. [I gave up on the place really, really early.] That doesn’t mean he won’t be able to continue to be paid by the NYT and MSDNC or others so long as he’s willing to call himself a Republican and crap on Republicans.

Frum and Brooks–the “Uncle Daves” of conservatism (if in fact they are conservatives). Polite, deferential to the Hive, and no threat to the Plantation. Not like them uppity field-hand conservatives like Limbaugh, who just don’t know their place..

Why do conservatives keep feeding the odious troll Frum? We have bigger problems than this pipsqueak. Every time you reference him, or link to him, it gives him another breath of blogxygen.

Okay, here’s where the problem is: this is not a case of conservative infighting. Why not? Because DAVID FRUM IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE.

He hasn’t been expelled; nobody kicked him out of the treehouse; and he didn’t have his epaulets ripped off and his saber broken because of Bitter Creek. He’s the one who abandoned conservatives, not the other way around..

It’s an old story. And all because of the oldest of reasons: he wanted to be thought well of by the New York politico-glitterati. It’s sad really, because it’s so desperate, weak and needy. He’s made his choice – let him live with it.

  28. Jum
    September 22nd, 2012 @ 3:08 pm

My point exactly: only in the tumbleweeds-strewn corridors of the NYT would anyone consider Frum a “conservative”. Indeed, the management there loves having their ideological Stepin Fetchit always always at hand, don’t they?

Frum, like Noonan, Gerson, Brooks, Kristol, et al., is a tool of Democrats. It doesn’t matter whether they do it for money or to look wise and righteous, or both. They are tools.

David Frum? Peggy Noonan? Who cares what they think? Both both used Republicans to acquire celebrity and then turned on us. They are no different from David Brock.

It must be fun during feeding time at the NYT as Brooks and Frum (aren’t they a country act? I don’t follow that scene) jockey for position at the bowl when Bill Keller pours in their kibble ration.

  39. Martin Johnson
    September 22nd, 2012 @ 4:42 pm

Why does David Frum now remind me of Andrew Sullivan and David Brock?
Oh, a “so-called” conservative who never really was. And apparently a bit unbalanced about it. Living a lie will do that to you, I guess.
