@DanRiehl Update

by Smitty

I went by and saw Dan Riehl in the Inova Fairfax ICU.

Dan has worked harder than most (e.g., me) on the effort to tear down the walls of the mainstream media Jericho over the last few years. You have to drop names like that of the late, lamented Andrew Breitbart to name somebody who was working harder on the restoration of the country.  Multitudes of folks echo the current news (and don’t stop; we make an important chorus) but Dan was a maker of news. His contacts and investigative skills (of which I had the merest glimmer of insight) allowed him to dig up crucial facts on a host of stories (go see Hating Breitbart for just one example).

Dan is a true leader, mentoring those who will listen, flogging relentlessly those who will not. I’ve no idea what the medical bill will be like for a few days in the Intensive Care Hotel, but it can’t be cheap. My intention is to swing by tomorrow, around noon, after doing some door knocking for the campaign. Hopefully, he’ll be conscious, so that I can take a picture. Do consider his tip jar, as you are able. I’ll have to wait until next week, after the mortgage has cleared, myself.

Oh Lord, pour out some grace on Dan and heal him. Fully. Soon. So that we can gather at Shelly’s Back Room after the election, for all Dan may eschew partaking of the combustibles.

Update: thanks, Instapundit and A Time for Choosing.

Though I’ve never met him, he has my respect and I think he’s a good man. He’s in my prayers and in my thoughts. Get well Mr. Riehl.

I would love to be able to hit his tip jar. Unfortunately I’m a disabled vet on a fixed income and already overdrawn at my bank by $200
So, all I can do is offer my prayers and hopes that he gets well soon.

I’ll be keeping Dan in my prayers.

I see the evil ones have taken over the comments at his site. I hope someone can help out with that.

A rule against saying a prayer? Was that in the ObamaCare legislation?

Praying for you’re fast recovery Mr. Riehl. We need all the soldiers of the real America now. Not just the great ones that slog daily in God-forsaken places and risk life and limb, but for the other soldiers like you that write with clarity, soul and purpose. Please get well soon!

Much agreed on all. I think if anyone has the keys to Dan’s site, they should turn the comments off, because some very reptilian creatures have slithered under the doors while he is away. I am truly horrified and appalled.

Husband had almost the exact same thing happen to him in July (out of no where) he was intubated though, he was out after a week, he was 50/50 also that first 24 hours, he is ONLY 45, without insurance I can only imagine it will be 10K to 20K with insurance it is still 4K for our portion. I have met Dan a few times since 2010, real JOURNALIST, we have fought on Twitter over his not liking something I said and I didn’t like something he said but I respect his invaluable opinion and the hard work he does to get a story. We are praying for him in our house and donating to help him out.

sounds like what happened to my husband, he had suffered through sleep apnea but his body didn’t need a cpap these past two years he needed an bipap because his body wasn’t releasing carbon and so he was slowly dying but didn’t know, he got very mentally unclear & I begged him to go to the doctor, he did, his oxygen levels were near rock bottom, they couldn’t get them back up in the emergency room and had to intubate him to work to get his lungs taking on oxygen again. BTW no explanation of why, or a name for it or anything other then the original sleep apnea, overweight of course didn’t help, but I don’t remember Dan Riehl being a large (in the stomach) guy last time I saw him. So could be something totally different but sounds almost exactly the same.

When I was Inova Loudoun, my ICU bill was $2K per day. I’m glad I was therein for only two days but it was still more than a mortgage payment per day.

Selfishly, we need Dan, and frankly more just like him, to fight our way out of this. That’s just me, someone who has read but never met him. Get well and get back in it. Other people, step up in his stead and carry the flag forward.

Dan is right in there with Breitbart and Levin, bare-knuckle fighters when we need them most. We need more following their examples.

Oh how terrible, I missed that, it is serious business pneumonia but so many people take it lightly and keep right on working, I know I have, as a smoker I kept on smoking as well so his experience will be a lesson for me. I just couldn’t believe it when I read it this morning because it brought me right back to July & my husband and the terror of it all!

I’m one of those people who is extremely uncomfortable with praying for outcomes; I have no problem with praying to say thanks or asking for guidance. It’s silly, but it’s how I am.

I completely understand it, but it’s not as if you’re asking for four aces or anything self-serving such as that. Your request is righteous, and it will be heard.
