Everybody Hates Gawker’s @JohnJCook and It’s About Damned Time, Too

Posted on | January 9, 2013 | 17 Comments

John J. Cook of Gawker is whining that he’s gotten death threats because he published a two-year-old list of registered gun owners in New York City. (Don’t worry: Links here don’t go to Gawker.)

As Twitchy points out, what Gawker has accidentally done is to provide an excellent argument against registering your guns.

John J. Cook is also complaining that people are Tweeting his home address. He should buy a gun to blow his brains out protect himself.

UPDATE: Emily Bazelon at Slate:

In a confessional piece on Gawker last week, John Cook wrote about himself as a craven junior high bully. He was part of a trio of boys who got their hands on an early Mac and used it to produce a scandal sheet with messages like “Jenni Greenwald, please commit suicide,” rumors about a girl named Holly W. losing her virginity, and racist rants against black students and teachers. At the time, Cook and the two boys he was trailing — they were popular and he wasn’t, he says — thought of themselves as rebels anonymously publishing an underground newspaper. They sold 80 copies at school in one day before they got caught.

Some trends persist: John Cook is still an unpopular bully.

Oh, the sweet irony of those acting without restraint bemoaning the lack of restraint. Mr. Cook, please let us know how the teachable moment works out for you.

Given the original aggressive and vulgar title of his rant and list, I find it amusing that he’s all butthurt that people are angry.

When you call a bunch of people a$$holes and then post their names, it’s not surprising that they are a little “testy” about it and have some words for you back.

This is a case of “can dish it, can’t take it”.

Shorter: A whiny smarta$$ b!tch gets b!tch slapped and then whines some more.

Back in the day, these kind of “teachable” moments were known as payback.

As my Father often says: ‘Watch out for the boomerang’.

I never heard that before. I’ll have to remember that.

I take it mean: before you do something, contemplate what the reaction will be and if you can handle it.

Cook is an admitted bully and I’m glad to see him getting a dose of his own medicine. (h/t Jim Treacher on Facebook)

Bullies can dish it out but they can’t take it. He may have to succumb to an armed security guard for protection. And after what he did, he may have trouble finding one.

Some people just need a good horse whipping. And in Mr. Cook’s case, he needs a series of these “teachable” moments.

What is it about the bullying mindset that never looks far enough ahead to resistance or even retribution? How does a person think “heh heh, I shall abuse that person over there and NOBODY CAN DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!”

Thing is, if this pussy and others like him really believed we were half the monsters he makes us out to be, they wouldn’t dare do this crap. When he publishes the membership rolls of the Muslim Brotherhood USA, I’ll be impressed.

But… they have knives! They might slit this guy’s throat or something! Far safer to pick on Christians.

Ace’s take on it is good. This alleged reporter is simply click-whoring for gawker with this copycat garbage. That’s why Stacy provided no links to them. Well, that, and because they are vermin.

I added the term “map whoring” to the list. Cook is just another map whore, like those Lower Hudson Valley news perverts.

Must have something to do with the South Hudson region. A lot Army types call Whoops Point South Hudson Institute of Technology. Much of the time it fits.

Personally, I don’t care for ring knockers anyway, so I often used the term myself. I tried to come up with a similar sobrquet for Canoe U, but failed. But I was a callow yute of 19 at the time. The last CO of Courtney inspired by distaste.

    Chesapeake University of Nautical Training?

When I went to OCS, a few smug Boat School grads made snide comments about too bad there weren’t many OCS admirals. This was in 1979, about 27 years since it had been started. I didn’t bother pointing that out, and asking how long it took to make admiral, because I figured basic demographics was about to bite them on their butts.

Sure enough, a year or two later, BAM! USNA grads were fewer than half of all flag officers. OCS and ROTC came out of nowhere and swamped the ring knockers.

I mean honestly, it brought down the ton of the Fleet no end, rahlly…

  • Steve Skubinna

Yeah, I never did get the hang of sticking out my pinkie. My Dad was also OCS, and he used to say that none of his kids would have a problem getting a college degree. The smart ones could get scholarships, and the dumb ones could go to the Academy.
