Is ‘Senator Bruce Carroll, (R-SC)’
The New Hotness?

Props to Bruce Carroll:

I felt it best to resign from GOProud in advance of the CPAC conference this week so that my position in GOProud would not be a distraction from my serious deliberations regarding my potential future plans in South Carolina public service.
I wish only the best to my colleagues and fellow supporters of GOProud moving forward and I’ll always do what I can to be helpful from the crowd.
Over the next few weeks, I will be studying the resources, time and effort it would take to do my part in holding Lindsey Graham accountable for his voting record and his attitude toward the voters in South Carolina.

Feel free to disagree with me on the point, but I’m not holding anything against Carroll, sexual or otherwise. Hopefully we’ve the liberty to support great candidates without that translating into 100% endorsement of all that candidate’s personal choices, fashion or otherwise.
Feel free to request an “Axis of Speedo” photo op with Stacey McCain at CPAC this year for a campaign fundraiser. Stacy would dig that. I think.

Update: Wonkette does a typical Lefty job of focusing on the crotches, and not the issues. Ace of Spades is a supporter.

I have no problems with Mr Carroll being homosexual; what he does in his bedroom is none of my business, as long as he is doing it with adults.

But I’ve always thought there was a logical problem with the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud; if we are going to hold the position that what people do in their bedrooms is none of our business — and certainly a libertarian wing of the Republican Party ought to be thinking along those lines — then an organization which tells us what particular Republicans do in their bedrooms seems an odd concept.

You misunderstand the need for groups like GOProud. Their purpose is not to tell you what they do in their bedroom, their purpose is to reach out to people that identify as gay and let them know that it’s OK to be a Republican, that there are other gay Republicans out there.

I don’t have time to keep looking, so I’ll ask: is this the guy who made such a stink in the 2010 (I think) CPAC timeframe, by being so abrasive to certain GOP members?

Looks like Chris Barron was head of GOProud then. But I can’t find reference on the increasingly useless Google search engine to the particular CPAC where that happened, or which GOProud member said it.

    Does anyone else remember?

That was not me who made the stink. Just for the record.

I followed Carroll for years at his blog and lately on Teh Twitter. He’s a smart guy, dependably conservative, and is able to suffer the slings and arrows with aplomb. On the issues, he would be a more faithful conservative vote in the Senate than Graham.

That said, given Graham’s war chest, national fundraising, and ability to spend it all in a primary because Democrats in South Carolina are the most pathetic bunch of losers since The Recent Unpleasantness, for Bruce or anyone to make a credible challenge is going to take AT LEAST $2 million. If he could raise $1 million by the end of 2013, he would be on track.

But that’s a bare minimum. And it is no guarantee of success: Graham would still have a huge money advantage, and South Carolina is not disposed to upstart challenges to incumbents. We kept sending Fritz Hollings back to DC when he was voting the full Democratic leftist line (in a misguided hope of being a viable contender for their Presidential nomination).

Google may be less useful, but the interwebs still work just fine!

Thanks for that info. I don’t see any point in bringing up that other guy here, then.

At this point, I think South Carolina would be better served by almost any random name from the phone book than Lindsey Graham. So primarying him would be a victory, right there, and should be attempted by anyone willing to take the heat.

I hope he runs, and I really hope he wins. But even if he doesn’t win he will still have accomplished great things.

Watch out though Bruce, you are about as threatening to the leftist narrative as Palin. If they think you a credible threat to Graham they’ll pull out all the stops.
