2004: Kaitlyn Hunt’s Father ‘Pressured a Victim Not to File a Battery Charge’

Posted on | June 1, 2013 | 52 Comments

How did Steven R. Hunt Jr. become an ex-cop?

May 21, 2004 — WEST MELBOURNE, Fla. – A police officer involved in a nightclub quarrel resigned after an internal affairs review showed he pressured a victim not to file a battery charge, officials said Thursday.
Sgt. Steve Hunt, who joined the West Melbourne Police Department in 1996, resigned Tuesday after the internal investigation on official misconduct allegations was completed.
Reports show Hunt lied to his supervisors about contacting a man he had gotten into an argument with on Oct. 11 [2003].
The incident happened at the 702 Nightclub in downtown Melbourne, said Sgt. Sean Riordan, spokesman for the Melbourne Police Department.
“It was a disturbance where one person pushed another,” Riordan said. No arrests were made, but West Melbourne investigators found Hunt placed multiple calls to the other man and convinced him not to pursue a battery charge, reports show.

So in 2004, when Kaitlyn was 9, her father got fired as a cop after he “lied to his supervisors” about a “quarrel,” an “argument,” a “disturbance” — as the “incident” is variously described — that took place at a nightclub in Melbourne, and then “pressured a victim.”

And by 2012, he was arrested for fraud.

Look, you’ve done exceptional work in leading the backlash of truth against the tide of lies and obfuscations in this media offensive, and may have been instrumental in stopping the railroad.

Daddy seems like the sort we should all be glad isn’t carrying a badge and gun, but “stop payment with fraudulent intent” could just be a dispute over goods or services. It’s a stretch to include this in the case against the Hunts.

You, of all people, should realize the dangers of “guilt by association” through someone’s else’s legal history.

I agree. I do feel sorry for the kids, they didn’t get to choose their parent’s, and it looks like the two they got stuck with don’t have a clue how to parent.

I still think that it’s Obama voters using their free cell phones to tweet the #Free Kate campaign. Some will think that’s unfair calling them Obama voters, but the same people who vote for Obama belong to the – no judgements no consequences club. Because life is hard and that’s only fair.

If it was just a dispute over goods, he wouldn’t have been arrested. They generally investigate before deciding whether to arrest.

In fact, police seldom investigate check claims unless there are several traced to one individual. More usual is that the complainant appears before a magistrate, swears a complaint, and a warrant is issued which police or sheriff’s deputies then serve by “making an arrest.” The matter is then resolved in court.

It’s a little thing called “walking and chewing gum at the same time.” Perhaps you’ve heard of it. Stace has this leftist attempt to normalize pedophilia covered; others are covering Benghazi, IRS, press reporters being tapped, etc.

There is no want of coverage of these other items. I’m not exactly seeing anyone else trip over themselves to stop this little attack on our culture by the Left. So let him have at it, for cryin’ out loud.

Seems not a one of you can stick to Kate and the charges against her but instead choose to dig up dirt in the family which is all either lies (the fight video, NOT KATE) or things regarding her parents. Then you continue on to throw around labels that are blatantly libelous and beyond hateful to Kate, her family, and supporters like me. Just leave these 2 young girls alone. The other parents are so wrong in what they chose as a path here. They did not contact Kate or family before going to the cops and the mother said in front of several witnesses “my daughter will not be/is not gay.” Not “oh no my freshman daughter is dating a senior …”

More libel. #freekate is in no way condoning pedophiles or promoting that. Just 4 year age gap amendment to this law with lower penalties for teenagers in general for sex in Florida. Kate and her girlfriend don’t deserve people like you judging them or knowing intimate details, but we see where the dirty old men are, other McCain, here talking about 2 young beautiful ladies making out in bathrooms at high school and sex toys. Get over it.

The moment the Hunts decided to try this in the court of public opinion, they opened themselves up to this scrutiny. They have blatantly lied in their defense of their daughter and disingenuously tried to hop onto the homosexual bandwagon.

If they pursued this entirely as a case of an unfair law, they would have possibly maintained credibility and support.

As it is, their lovely daughter, has (knowingly) broken the law and is simply being held to account like any other felon in this country.

Felons are not victims. The girl against which this abuse was perpetrated is the victim.

    1. Get a dictionary and look up the meaning of the word “libel.”
    2. When did raping a 14 year old become “making out?”

  28. Freddy At Night
    June 2nd, 2013 @ 8:20 pm

Reckon as long as this victim is a minor and living in her parents’ home, they actually can declare that their daughter is not “gay”, and, voilà – it is so…

Now, when she is 18 or on her own, she can “self-identify” however she chooses in Florida!

The now 15 year old girlfriend and Kate had a high school romance. When the younger girls parents did not like her sexual persuasion they used the police as a parenting tool. I live in the county where all this is happening, everyone involved states the younger girl loves Jate and is so upset her parents have done this to her first high school love. This law is used very selectively and there is no reason the State Attorney could not have dropped it to a misdemeanor as they do exact same case circumstances here all the time. But no they wanted her to say she was a child abusing felon and be on house arrest for 2 years, then probation, then possibly the sex offender registry at the judges discretion for her plea bargain.

    June 2nd, 2013 @ 8:24 pm

Lets take it to trial and use it as precedent to amend the law for high school romances. So that’s our fight. As a person sexually abused at age 9 by an adult never punished I am offended at the misuse of time and resources in persecuting both of the girls. I pray for them both and support them both at this terrible situation the younger girls parents created.

Defending your child against sexual predators is NOT “creating a problem.” Taking away a 14 year old’s innocence in a bathroom stall is not a romance.

I believe it was Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan who said something about “defining deviancy down.” You, dear heart, just set out to prove him right.

Of course your little “movement” condones pedophilia. Indeed, it promotes it. Why don’t you feel ashamed to be promoting pedophilia, Rachel?

Rachel your facts are wrong. Kate turned 18 before she ever met the younger girl. The younger girls parents asked her twice to stop molesting their daughter and she refused. Only then did they go tot he police. The 14 year old ran away from home and Kate enabled her, putting her in an unsafe position. This is a simple case of child molestation. You are, of course, within your rights to support child molestors if you choose. Although that is not a very wise or moral choice. But society has an interest in ending child molestation and society will move to protect this young girl and hopefull all young people in the future.

    C. Smith obviously does not “love” Kate if she helped report her to the police in the first place. (Phone recording a conversation used as evidence to arrest Kaitlyn Hunt.) C. Smith is also African American; does that make Hunt “racist”? It goes both ways.

WHAT “DECENT” PARENT” REFERRING TO JIM AND LAURIE SMITH WOULD OUT THEIR OWN DAUGHTER C.S. AND PUT HER SEXUAL EXPERIENCES OUT IN THE PUBLIC. IN MY OPINION THEY ARE THE WORST OF THE WORST PARENTS- THEY STARTED THIS ENTIRE MESS BY THE POOR FORETHOUGHT AS TO WHAT CAN TRANSPIRE WHEN THEY DID NOT HANDLE THIS TEEN RELATIONSHIP WITH ANY FORM OF INTEGRITY AND RESPECT FOR BOTH GIRLS. THEY HURT THEIR OWN CHILD IN THEIR ACTIONS- AND FOR THAT I BELIEVE THEY ARE DESPICABLE HUMAN BEINGS. FOREVER THEIR DAUGHTER WILL NOW BE HURT OVER AND OVER AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE VERY POOR WAY THEY HANDLED THIS SITUATION. VENGEANCE IS MINE SAITH THE LORD! TAKING VENGEANCE ONLY HURT THEIR OWN DAUGHTER-C.S. SAD.IF I HAD TO PICK PARENTS I WOULD PICK KATES ANY DAY OVER JIM AND LAURIE SMITH.

Kate’s greatest problem in the mess that she finds herself is her steadfast insistence that she did nothing wrong, followed by blaming the victim’s parents. She broke the fu&king law, a felony crime, and she admitted the acts of illegal conduct. She is delusional if she truly believes she did nothing wrong. She’s in serious need of appropriate counseling. The tragic part is her parents, and apparently legal counsel too, are reinforcing her to maintain that reckless position. Together they have put Kate on a very destructive path. Their battle is with the FL legislature, not the justice system. It’s extremely sad, it’s tragic, and it has dire consequences for Kate. This girl needs to look at her situation, do a bit of self-assessment, and take control for her own benefit, because those who have been guiding her have been seriously misleading her.
