Remember: ‘Climate’ Is Not ‘Weather’ (Unless Scientists Tell Us It Is)

Posted on | December 13, 2013 | 56 Comments

Once you realize that anthropogenic global warming (also known as “climate change”) is a non-falsifiable theory, the pretzel logic is amusing: Any extreme or damaging weather — including extreme cold — can be cited as evidence of “climate change,” and anything that looks like contradictory evidence can be dismissed as irrelevant because . . . well, there’s a scientific consensus, and nobody can argue with a scientific consensus. In other words, the science of global warning is not science. It’s actually the exact opposite of science, because real science requires that a theory conform to the evidence, rather than attempting to conform the evidence to a theory. Don’t expect the global warming fanatics to have an explanation for this:

It snowed in Cairo today for the first time in, well … a long time! According to the Los Angeles Times, “Local news reports said the last recorded snowfall was more than 100 years ago,” while the AFP quotes a Cairo meteorologist saying that this is the first snow in “many years,” which is about as vague and unhelpful as it gets. Reports that this is Cairo’s first snowfall in exactly 112 years (see: Business InsiderBuzzfeed) seem to be based on a tweet by one local man who later acknowledged he was just guesstimating. Whatever the exact number is, though, the point is that it basically never snows in Cairo.

How dare you mere mortals doubt an Official Scientific Consensus!

While snow happens every few years or so in Jersusalem (because it is at about 2,500 foot Above Sea Level elevation), you are absolutely right–it basically never snows in Cairo. Until now.

I do not think so, for that David Brooks would have to develop a back bone, Andrew Sullivan would have to go straight (or praise Sarah Palin), and Tom Friedman would have to denounce China.

No real scienctist would EVER claim “the science is settled” on anything. There remain aspects of Einstein and Bohr which are hard to reconcile, and Newton has been almost entirely replaced.

Add to this the fact that the IPCC “Summary” (which is all the media ever read or report upon) has never conformed with the data in the report, and it is clear these cries come from the same people who dumped their emails illegally to prevent their collusions and deceptions from being made public. It is an attempt to stifle dissent because doubt may cost the warmists grant money.

Hardly. I make the qualification because of the facts of their use. I have taught Physics, and I use it daily as an Engineer. Any competent Physicist or Engineer will call BS on his statement because it isn’t true.

Where Classical Mechanics fail is at very high Velocities, and with very small masses. The branches one gets into in those situation is Relativistic Mechanics in the first, and Quantum Mechanics in the second. There is much more to this than I can get into here, but Adjoran’s assertion is one of sheer ignorance.

there’s a scientific consensus, and nobody can argue with a scientific consensus.
    ============
Because science is all about herd kind of thinking dismissing evidence that counters their scientific “consensus” (read dogmas)!

Just ask the “homosexuals are born that way” folks. The greatest example of yellow science of our times.

Unfortunately for most folks in my circles (pun intended), this one is Officially Decided.

No one likes it when I ask what the climate models say the weather is going to be in sixty-four days.

And then I ask what the climate models seven years ago said about today’s weather.

Oooooh, do I get the nasty looks then!!

I wouldn’t care what they said or believed, but the climate change is an excuse to control other people’s behavior. They take away Bob’s muscle car today, and tomorrow my hot shower is metered so it can’t be too hot or too long. They restrict the carbon dioxide from the big distribution center in the next town, and soon I can’t use my fireplace or my clothes dryer.

I won’t let bad pseudo-science be the excuse to take away my freedom.

They are. In Newton’s time measurement ability was no where hear what it is now. Now we know the limits of classical mechanics, but one does not compute orbits or space shots with either relativistic or Quantum Mechanics, but with good ol’ Newton’s equations. Relativity explains certain things that could not be explained by Newtonian Mechanics, such as precession of Orbits. Precession of Orbits is very small and could not be measured from year to year in Newton’s time. It could be seen over time, and by the late 19th century could be measured year to year for near planets.

By the 19th century, the limits of classical, or Newtonian, mechanics were known, but There is a ton of stuff still done with classical mechanics, and there is little that would be done on a day to day basis without Isaac’s work.
