Success Is Its Own Defense

If something works, it works. To intellectuals, however, theory takes precedence over practice and ideological abstractions like “equality” are more important than actual success and happiness. So in the wake of their failure to destroy “Duck Dynasty” because of patriarch Phil Robertson’s alleged homophobia, now the Left has its collective panties in a bunch because, in 2009, Robertson said this:

“Make sure that she can cook a meal, you need to eat some meals that she cooks, check that out,” he said. “Make sure she carries her Bible. That’ll save you a lot of trouble down the road. And if she picks your ducks, now, that’s a woman.”
“They got to where they’re getting hard to find,” Robertson remarked. “Mainly because these boys are waiting until they get to be about 20 years old before they marry ’em. Look, you wait until they get to be 20 years old, the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket.”
The Duck Commander company founder added: “You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16, they’ll pick your ducks. You need to check with mom and dad about that of course.”

From all the pearl-clutching horror inspired by this quote, evidently we’re supposed to think the Robertsons are the Louisiana Taliban. But then you get to the end of the article and read this:

Robertson practices what he preaches. He began dating his wife, Kay, when she was only 14 and he was 18. They waited until Kay was 16 to get married.

Oh, that’s right: Phil and Kay Robertson recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. they’ve got four grown kids and numerous grandchildren and — by the way — they’re millionaires. For obvious reasons, the Left must discourage this way of life.

Okay, I’m going to say it just to get it out of the way.

I’m pretty sure that Robinson didn’t have any kind of sex with his wife before they were married.

    They were legal.

Not to mention that he, and his kith and kin are often shown wearing camouflage and carrying AR-15’s with large-capacity magazines! Well… The evidence speaks for itself!

Lefty meme: It’s okay for Brett Kimberlin. It’s OK for predatory high school lezbeens. But Phil’s disgusting for making that poor girl wait four years.

I like how they gloss over “You need to check with mom and dad about that of course,” and that with parental permission–TADA!–a girl can get married at 16 http://bit.ly/18TG9df.

They just can’taccept they got their asses kicked.

If they are upset about phil and his wife, I’m sure they are also upset about all the inner city teeneage girls getting impregnated and abandoned by adult men.

Not sure the question is so simple. He kicked the wife and kids out at one point, didn’t he? The drinking, the possible womanizing… And one marriage that started for her at 16 and continued doesn’t erase all the failed other ones that have also existed like this.
I was also thinking today that the fact they became millionaires puts this attractive gloss on everything they say or are. And that is kind of weird.
I like the series very much, and many things about the relationships shown, the people shown, but it is tremendously scripted.
For the culture wars, it’s the script that matters. And seeing this duck whack the LGBTs and liberals with a major win. It’s just too bad he didn’t take the show to a SoCon channel.

they’re millionaires. For obvious reasons, the Left must discourage this way of life.

The Left way of life is the filmmaker Roman Polanski way – sex with a 13 year old girl (at the age of 40+) and a net worth of $45 Million.

I have a great deal of respect for the “If it works, it works” argument, but it must be conceded that it’s very prone to confirmation bias. How *often* does it work? For every happy young-married couple like the Robertsons, how many marriages fell apart or only endured in misery?
And what’s your threshold for “working”? Polygyny “worked” for centuries in many cultures, and many people think it would “work” now, for those who have or want the prerogative of not caring about who it disenfranchises.

Robertson wasn’t always a Christian, so I’m sure some of what he has to say is in retrospect, but no less wise. If you want kids, marrying young is the way to go. I had two of my Grandkids for nearly 8 years, and can vouch for the fact that having kids when you’re older is for the birds.

How can anyone defend someone advocating guys to marry 15 year olds? That sounds sick.

  13. Zohydro
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:01 pm

    Pure genius, isn’t it?

  14. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:24 pm

So you approve of Phil recommending your grandkids get married at 15?

  15. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:25 pm

So that makes advocating guys marry 15-16 year olds a good thing? Abortions are legal in La. too, that does not make them a good thing.

  16. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:27 pm

Well those ducks are hard to hit with a single shot.

  17. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:29 pm

But he has admitted to having sex after they were married…..to other women.

    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:34 pm

I know a gay couple that have been together for almost 30 years, and are very successful, living comfortably. Does your logic on success work in that scenario also?

  19. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:45 pm

    Does one pick the ducks?

  20. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:46 pm

Yeah, much better to wait until she is 35 and you are 40. That way, in the unlikely even you have child, you can be putting it through school at 60 and don;t have to worry about retirement. Great plan.

  21. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:48 pm

They are both over the hill and no good for marrying, they are over 16

  22. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:49 pm

Yup, better to drop out of junior high and raise a family.

  23. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:50 pm

If she stays married for over 50 years and is a millionaire, that works for me. What about you? Do you prefer unmarried at 35 and a pauper?

  24. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:51 pm

Don’t forget the stay married for 50 years and become a millionaire part.

  25. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:51 pm

If that is the only choice, yes.

  26. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:52 pm

    So, the answer is no.

  27. Rick Caird
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:53 pm

So, you want your grandkids to be paupers. Well, to each his own. Don;t tell the grandkids (or their parents), though.

  28. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:54 pm

So if they don’t marry at 15, they won’t be rich like Phil?

  29. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:55 pm

Yes… if you marry at 15, chances are in most cases you will be married 50 years and a millionaire.

  30. Evi L. Bloggerlady
    December 30th, 2013 @ 12:57 pm

Unlike Kimberlin, the age difference is only four years. Unlike Kaitlyn Smith, Robertson waited till she was old enough to marry her and then he married her. There is a difference Kait, hence the reason you were in jail and now on probation you nasty little felon you.

  31. John LaRosa
    December 30th, 2013 @ 1:05 pm

I use that “success is its own defense” line frequently, albeit in a different context. Conservatives need to win primaries AND general elections in order to end, once and for all, the absurd “Dem-lite”/electablility argument currently being promoted by the DNC chair’s twin sister.

  32. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 1:08 pm

Yup, the bible tells us women should be quiet, subservient, and never hold authority over man. It is God’s will that the woman pick the ducks.

  33. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 1:12 pm

BTW, ever see a duck picked? Nasty, smelly job.

“Does anyone find it ironic that the Duck Dynasty guy compared homosexuality to bestiality when he and his family’s entire fortune, and all their fame, was made trying to trick ducks into thinking he wants to have sex with them”

  35. PatDissent
    December 30th, 2013 @ 2:55 pm

Would this be the same panty-bunching crowd that supports child-molesters like Kate Hunt? If so there can be only one response :

“Sit down, and shut your hypocritical pieholes ! Since you believe in murdering babies, nothing else can be called wrong in your pseudo-morality. So just do the world a favor and never, ever speak in public again or vote.”

    ‘Nuff said.

I ain’t commenting one way or another about Phil’s beliefs, but about how these losers keep trying–and failing–to tear the guy down because he wouldn’t bow to the braying jackass cultural lynch mob.

Liar. Robertson never compared sins, he only listed them.

  40. John Richter

Lol…Rush has you guys so screwed up. She wanted her insurance premiums to cover contraceptives like the vast majority of policies do. So she is a parasitic slut like the millions of other women that are covered for contraceptives…LMAO.

  41. John Richter
    December 30th, 2013 @ 4:37 pm

“She wanted her insurance premiums to cover contraceptives like the vast majority of policies do.”

So why didn’t she shop for a different policy, one NOT OFFERED THROUGH A CATHOLIC SCHOOL?

And, yes, she’s a parasitic slut.

  44. John Richter

Contraception can be purchased for about $10 a month. Guess what, it is far cheaper to do that and just troll for free drinks at closing (which is how Sandra pays for her nights out in Georgetown).

Or does she want Obamacare to cover that too?
