Glenn Beck’s #LGBT Agenda?

Posted on | January 22, 2014 | 91 Comments

My brother Kirby called this afternoon and began the conversation by saying, “You know if that kid in Florida kills himself . . .”

Yeah, they’ll blame me.

Volunteer Official Scapegoat™ of the Hate Olympics.

Someone has to be the conservative who notices things you’re not supposed to notice and says things you’re not supposed to say.

The chief qualifications for this gig are (a) scorn for popularity and (b) disregard for the short-term goals of the Republican Party. If your goal is to become the Popular Person Embraced by the Official GOP, you can never speak the kind of truth that makes people uncomfortable, you can never risk anything in a fight, and you are ultimately doomed to a defensive strategy of retreat.

Glenn Beck said on his Monday show that anti-gay people “have no place in this country.” . . .
“Anybody within the sound of my voice that hates a gay person because they’re gay, you have no place calling yourself a fan of mine,” Beck said. “You have no place in this country.”
Beck has spoken out in support of gay marriage several times before. Earlier in January, he voiced his opposition against Russia’s anti-gay laws and announced that he would stand by the LGBT advocacy group GLAAD in their fight against “hetero-fascism.”
“You are not a fan of mine — you have no friendship here — if you hate people because they’re gay,” Beck also added. “You have no place claiming that you’re a fan of this show. . . . If that’s who you are, I don’t want to have anything to do with you.”

Of course, the problem with Beck’s rhetoric here is that it conflates political opposition to a certain policy agenda (or religious objections to homosexual behavior) with “hate,” which is an assertion so absurd that I hesitate to dignify it with a response.

Look, my religious beliefs condemn premarital sex and re-marriage after divorce. Do I “hate” people who don’t live up to those biblical standards of behavior? No one has ever accused me of such a hate, because there is no recognized Promiscuity Lobby trying to mobilize an identity politics constituency to vote Democrat by labeling Republicans a hate group on such a basis. Once you get past the irrational bullying tactics of the Left and look at the actual data, you recognize that the gay agenda represents an effort to re-order social norms on behalf of an extremely small (but quite vocal and well-funded) minority:

The Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, a gay and lesbian think tank, released a study in April 2011 estimating based on its research that just 1.7 percent of Americans between 18 and 44 identify as gay or lesbian, while another 1.8 percent — predominantly women — identify as bisexual. Far from underestimating the ranks of gay people because of homophobia, these figures included a substantial number of people who remained deeply closeted, such as a quarter of the bisexuals. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey of women between 22 and 44 that questioned more than 13,500 respondents between 2006 and 2008 found very similar numbers: Only 1 percent of the women identified themselves as gay, while 4 percent identified as bisexual.

So the LGBT coalition encompasses 3.5 percent of the population, max, to whom the other 96.5 percent are expected to kowtow?

Never has such a large majority dog been so easily wagged by such a small minority tail, led by radicals who habitually impugn all opposition in the most vituperative language imaginable. Dana Pico at First Street Journal notes the implicit insistence “that homosexual relationships are just as good, just as wholesome, just as normal, as heterosexual ones,” i.e., compulsory approval. As I explained more than five years ago (“Gay Rights, Gay Rage,” The American Spectator, Nov.  17, 2008), those who speak of homosexuality in the language of “rights” are not about liberty, but rather about equality in the most radical sense and, as Richard Weaver famously warned, Ideas Have Consequences.

This is how we reach the point at which people believe they have the “right” to make you bake them a lesbian wedding cake. This is how we reach the point where no one is supposed to object to teenage boys getting paid for a six-way “bareback orgy” on video.

Do you think this kind of stuff is worth discussing? “You have no place in this country.” Ace says Glenn Beck is now “all about attempting to get TimeWarner and ComCast to pick up his cable channel.”

Yeah, because MSNBC needs more competition.

My feeling is that the right should leave gays alone. Don’t persecute them, don’t insult them, don’t quote scripture at them, and don’t single out individual gays for ridicule in public forums.

I agree completely with that sentiment, and I think the vast, vast majority of conservatives agree, as well. The problem is, such conduct on my/our part is never enough. Rather, we are required to actively celebrate/condone/advance a lifestyle, including redefining an institution which is millenia-old in order to demonstrate our “tolerance.” This, I cannot abide. It has never been about tolerance or leaving people alone. It has always been about the destruction of marriage and the family and with that, the destruction of the foundations of our classically liberal society.

Your points are good ones. My only real stance on gay marriage (besides opposing it at the ballot box) is that marriage laws should be decided by the individual states, not by the federal government, and certainly not by any federal court, including the Supreme Court. Those federal courts that have struck down state laws defining marriage as between one man and one woman, are federal overreach
    and tyranny, in my opinion.

Beck and Cuomo are posers, posturing for public approval, typical of liberals: “Oh look how enlightened I am! Look what a moral giant I am among men!”

    Screw them.

“Sodomite” would limit the term to male homosexuals, which is not (usually) my intention.

This is Beck’s bent towards compassion – to love the tempted, and the sinner, while condemning the temptation/sin. At worst, it’s naked proselytization for Mormonism.
He’s been very magnanimous toward people who’ve sworn to destroy him. Remember: same sex attraction is a temptation, not a sin. It is when the person decides to act and then acts that s/he sins.

That’s going much father than a simple live and let live attitude. ‘Hetero-Fascism’ is a term used by Ideologues, especially of the Leftist kind.

a number of the men and women who accept the
label “libertarian” are not actually ideological libertarians at all,
but simply conservatives under another name. These are people who perceive in
the growth of the monolithic state, especially during the past half century, a
grim menace to ordered liberty; and of course they are quite right. They wish
to emphasize their attachment to personal and civic freedom by employing this
20th century word derived from liberty. With them I have little quarrel –
except that by so denominating themselves, they seem to countenance a crowd of
political fantastics who “license they mean, when they cry liberty.”

We discussed Beck’s self-decoachestration fairly heavily at Scoop’s.

Some call him a fraud, some are still seething over his treatment of Newt (I’d imagine Stacy isn’t one of them), and some are angry over his de-coachestration of Breitbart over the Pigford thing.

My takeaway is that Beck is a three-steps boldy forward/two-steps, run-like-hell-backward kind of guy, and we are probably best off ignoring him. I wish him the best with his network, and I hope he helps the cause more than hurts it, but I can’t count on him in the crunch.

He’s a REMF, through and though.

  17. K-Bob
    January 24th, 2014 @ 1:03 am

In fairness to Beck, he wasn’t supporting gays nearly as much as he was against people wanting to “burn them in ovens.” That’s where he cried “fascism,” and while I agree with him, he stated it without caveat, and without any qualifier save “I don’t agree with gay marriage.”

    It was poorly done.

The man just doesn’t do “mental discipline.”

I think he’s genuine, and really believes what he claims, but I can’t count on him when it gets down to crunch time like I can you, for example. Because you have made your position clear, without resort to mealy-mouthed lamentations over the paltry few who would misconstrue.

At some point one must stand on solid ground, and not on packed sand. Beck has chosen both the sand and the oceanfront view.

I totally disagree with this. People with a homosexuality or bisexuality problem have a perverted and deformed mind in many ways, including a host of attitudes, thoughts, and layers. Having perverted thoughts is a sin, having perverted attitudes about sexuality and other people is sinning. Acting out on those perverted fantasies, thoughts, and feelings is just another type of sin.
Not doing anything to resolve those deep psychological, emotional, and ideological problems is also being irresponsible, thus it does harm as well.
Forming gay mafias, which is what many homosexuals and bisexuals do in institutions these garbage of people infiltrate is not acting out sexually, but still sinning in other ways because of their deformed homosexual minds.

While an individual cannot be blamed if their mind produces a desire
they can’t control, and especially a perverted or perverse desire, they
are responsible what they do about it and how much they feed their
perverse desires, thoughts, fantasies, etc. Not investigating the
underlying problems that are contributing to the generation of that
desire is neglectful and irresponsible, and only contributes to
maintaining the psychological/social/ideological problems that generate
the perverted desire in the first place.

I’m underscoring this because a lot of people who have perverted minds
do NOT want to *deal* with their problems – they just want acceptance,
they simply want to feel better – that’s all. It’s just like the Church
shuffling along its homosexual pedophiles – oh, let’s put them in
another parish, we’ve already asked them to repent, problem solved. And
then they abused again. A surprise to whom?

As Taki Magazine recently noted, homosexuality is a defect like asthma,
    ===============
Wrong. There is no ideological or moral aspect to asthma, but there are plenty of those to homosexuality.
Homosexuality is a complex psychological dysfunction, like pedophilia, bestiality, porn, trafficking. All of these debase human beings and sexuality in multiple ways. They are all sexually perverted. Asthma is not. Homosexuality et al are psychological problems and have no biological cause. Asthma is a physical disease.

There is just too much misinformation about homosexuality is society…

People who normalize homosexuality have thrown the Bible down the drain a long time ago.
And they don’t care and they refuse to admit it, given how dishonest they are.

Why doesn’t Beck just come *out* of his little conservative-labeled closet and admit he’s no social conservative, but one puff of a liberal? It would be a lot less hypocritical.

  22. Alessandra

Anyone who hates social conservative people for being social conservative is a bad person.

Ergo, Beck is a bad person.

  23. Alessandra
    January 24th, 2014 @ 2:06 am

Horsefeathers. Lets not forget that when homosexual coaches abuse or sexually harass other people, liberals still continue to become more and more pro-gay. The more harm and violence LGBTs do in society, the more society is becoming pro-gay. The more STDs LGBTs spread, the more society is pro-gay. The more porn they produce and consume, the more people are pro-gay. Being pro-gay has nothing to do with some concern about a largely fictional victimhood agenda of perverts, but it’s a social trend to exactly run away from confronting how destructive and perverted American society is regarding sexuality.

This is what we have been witnessing in the past 40 years. Not greater human rights related to sexuality, but less and less of it.

Freedom to do harm and to cover it up with impunity.

  24. Alessandra
    January 24th, 2014 @ 2:10 am

The day Beck talks about how many Jews Nazi homosexuals and bisexuals gladly sent to the ovens he’ll be in a position to talk about not sending any homosexual to any oven.

We know his warped liberal mind is incapable of talking about any harm or violence LGBTs do, however…

Aside from all that homosexual porn… it’s all so very aligned with Beck’s kind of mind. That’s why he’s on a fanatical smear campaign about people who don’t normalize homosexuality…

It would mean taking a look at how perverted his own mind is… and we know that ain’t happening…

I like Beck a lot, but don’t really understand why he’s harping on this. I agree with him that we shouldn’t hate gays. I believe in “love the sinner, hate the sin”. Could that be what he means, but only in a more dramatic way?

One thing I DID like about him was that he at least tried to present himself as a believer of The Bible and believer in morality. I don’t know, but if someone was saying they were going to round up gays and hurt them, I’d stand against that.

    Oh well.

Alessandra, I think your hatred for gays is obvious, and you are in a frenzied search to justify your prejudice. I seriously doubt that you are an expert on the subject. Further, being gay is not the same as pedophilia or bestiality, as the former is generally between consenting adults, and how they live their lives is none of your business.

You seem to be in that class of conservatives who want a formal declaration of hatred for gays, no matter the political cost. In short, you are something of a fanatic, and not to be taken seriously.

  33. Stogie Chomper
    January 24th, 2014 @ 11:04 am

Oh screw “sin” and any religion that sees God as a monster who roasts people in hell for being just He made them to be. Religion is too often used to give a false air of respectability to hatred and bigotry. I haven’t “tossed the Bible out” but I no longer take it literally or even very seriously.

  34. Alessandra
    January 24th, 2014 @ 12:26 pm

No, screw your gross mind and your gross liberalism which is just an ideological tool for you to be in denial about every way that people do harm and violence in the area of sexuality, especially if it involves LGBTs or any of your own equally crappy attitudes.

And it’s plain to see any of the shoddiest porn material is your little bible.

  35. Alessandra

We can’t expect someone in your class of ignorance to face reality – your little narrative is all your lack of ethics cares for. Maybe you’re too daft to realize that your smearing of social conservatives as “haters” only highlights how much of a hater you yourself are.

Regarding your stupidity about pedophilia or bestiality, there is no issue of consent involved unless there are acts. The mind however remains profoundly deformed and perverted, just like regarding homosexuality. And given how much sexual harassment and other forms of abuse LGBs engage in, you obviously don’t give a whit about consent.
