ObamaCare’s Compulsory Race Question

You can’t see a doctor now unless you fill out a questionnaire about race and ethnicity, and Maetenloch comments at AOSHQ:

“Thanks Obama and Congress. These days
I always put myself down as ‘Mixed’ since
a) it’s true in the larger sense and
b) it fucks up all their statistics.”

Heh. If there is an option of fill-in-the-blank for “Other,” I would suggest writing in some archaic category: “Sumerian,” “Hittite,” “Hun,” “Hottentot,” “Creole” or “Octaroon.” As for myself, I’m pretty sure “Celto-Hibernian” or “Appalachian-American” would do.

Note to regular readers: Please excuse the paucity of routine blogging the past two days. Ever since Wednesday, when I began whacking that commie punk Jesse Myerson upside the head, I keep finding new reasons to maintain the momentum of the assault. His choice to reply with insulting sarcasm inevitably requires me to expose his ignorant folly with utmost ruthlessness. So I must beg for your patience, as I’ve been busy rooting around in the Marxist classics — e.g., “The Victory of the Counter-Revolution in Vienna” — for materials necessary to the next crushing onslaught of this brutal campaign.

    Hey Stacey! by How about a multi-part series on” The History of Communism,” that would focus on the failures of the system, both in human lives as well as in the market? The 50 million dead under Stalin, the 20 million under Pol Pot, the uncounted millions under Mao. . . plus the debris of the Five Year Plans, etc. It could be fun as well as educational, if not good for a few thousand page hits from outraged leftists.

    Upon further review of the questionnaire at the link, one wonders who was in charge of creating it. Aside from being intrusive, it is nonsensical, to the point where the data obtained –assuming people tell the truth–is nonsensical. Case in point: There’s a “Spanish Basque” category, but none for those Basques on the North slope of the Pyrenees. If there are no “French” Basques, why specify “Spanish?” Hell, why modify “Basque” at all if they only live in Spain?

    Or consider the category “Iwo Jiman” under the “race” category. WTF? The were and are no “native” racial Iwo Jimans. They’re Japanese. And today, they’re in the Japanese Defense Force, because that (and occasional groups of U.S. Marines) are the only ones allowed on the island, which BTW is now called, “Iwo To.”

    One more: They list “Pakistani” as a race, but ignore those former subjects of the Raj to their immediate East. They list “Bangladeshi,” though. What a cluster****.

    If you are looking for another drum to beat, one even dumber than Jesse M., try reading Marc Adler at: http://www.splicetoday.com/politics-and-media/prescription-for-a-more-just-american-society. Note that Splice is edited (I think) by Russ Smith, who is pretty bright, so I can’t explain how this piece made it into print. For example, Adler writes: “’the growth of wealth in some parts of the world goes hand in hand with the growth of poverty in others… British capitalism’s success was the root of India’s crisis and decline….'” It’s hard to imagine a statement more willfully at war with the facts, with history, with the real world. Enjoy!

    What’s interesting is that in the middle of her essay, she writes this:

    Receiving so many comments denying what I said one after the other reinforces my sense of isolation, of outlandishness, of being the only one who knows. It makes me doubt the reality of my perceptions, it makes me waver, it shakes my foundations for a bit. I start questioning what I said. If so many people assert this with such confidence and if it contrasts so starkly with my perceptions, how can my assumptions be real?

    That’s sort of the point of using Reason to figure things out. While one should be leery of any “consensus” or appeal to numbers, by the same token, if many people are questioning your perceptions and conclusions, perhaps those perceptions and conclusions are due for a review.
