A great German word, meaning “motorist driving against the traffic on motorways“. Literally, “ghost driver”. This post is in response to “11 dead after wrong-way car crashes in Florida and California“.
Let’s trot out the original Ghost Riders in the Sky:

So since no party affiliation or immigration status was mentioned we can assume this was an illegal alien who is also a Democrat member of Congress…

    Fair assumption, methinks.

On the highways, after closing time (2AM), impaired drivers often turn the wrong way onto the freeway. And because they know they’re impaired, they drive slowly in what they think is the slow lane, farthest right. Often, with their lights off. When you, traveling in the fast lane (farthest left), come up on them, there is virtually no time to avoid a head on collision.

Moral of the story? Avoid the fast lane late at night unless you can see the taillights of the car ahead of you.

    From the linked report:

The driver of the Camaro, a 21-year-old woman, suffered major injuries and two of her passengers died, as did four people from the other two vehicles, the patrol said. The driver was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury and death and for manslaughter, the patrol said.

Online state patrol logs show a vehicle was reportedly traveling at 100 mph on the wrong side of the highway before the collision occurred.

100 MPH, with passengers? Was this really an accident, or suicide by car . . . in which the driver was the only one who failed to commit suicide?

When I first moved to Hampton Roads, there was a story about a woman, minding her own business, driving home from work down Oceana Boulevard, when an A-6 from Oceana Naval Air Station just fell out of the sky on her car, killing her instantly.

Sometimes, when your number is up, it’s just up.

And on another matter, Ghost Riders is amazing. Vaughn Monroe barely changed the arrangement. Too bad Jones hadn’t a slightly better voice.
