Somebody mentioned this in the comments the other day, but I just got around to checking it out: Duke University freshman Miriam Weeks, who has recently become notorious as porn star Belle Knox, is a “cutter,” with visible scars that show her history of self-harm. “Apparently her ex-boyfriend that cheated on her told her she was fat so she carved the word into her thigh.”

The idea that the daughter of an affluent doctor began shooting porn videos because she couldn’t afford tuition always seemed a bit strange, and her claims that doing porn was “empowering,” an expression of “sexual autonomy,” were even stranger. It is becoming obvious that she has struggled with mental health issues for many years, and the liberal media’s ostentatious posture of non-judgmentalism isn’t really the kind of help she needs. Also, it’s boring.

If you want to see how to turn an article about porn into pure tedium, go read Noah Berlatsky’s Atlantic article, “Students Who Do Sex Work.” Berlatsky doesn’t even raise an eyebrow at this startling confession from one student porn performer:

I started modeling three years ago simply because I wanted to. It was a process of trying to reclaim my sexuality and sexual presentation after a series of sexual assaults. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to ameliorate a lot of the trauma I was dealing with, which exacerbated my mental health issues. I was in college full time at that point, getting by financially with a combination of loans, scholarships, and money my parents had set aside for my education. My mental illness progressed to the point that it started affecting my academics, and I was eventually hospitalized. I had to take a medical leave.

WHOA! Sexual assaults, trauma, mental health issues, psychiatric hospitalization? I’m gonna take a wild guess that getting boned on video is not particularly effective as outpatient therapy.

But isn’t this something that common sense suggests? Do we really need case studies and social-science research to know that the porn business harbors a lot of psychologically damaged people with issues relating to sexual abuse and poor self-esteem? Non-judgmentalism is utterly irresponsible when confronted with such a situation, and kudos to Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post for this fine sentence:

Letting a man ejaculate on your face is not empowering under anyone’s definition of the term.

Belle Knox is a symptom of a culture gone mad.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that this young woman was alone a lot as a child what with both parents probably working to keep up their upscale lifestyle and also keep up with their education debt and credit card bills, ect.

Apparently her father is active duty military and deployed. So… maybe not “upscale lifestyle” so much but “parents not there” quite likely.

Wow. The over-under on that “probable victim of abuse” thing will have to get a lot higher.

And here’s where I’m going to point out that I can’t remember a thread on the internet (including many on the right side blog-iverse) featuring a popular female in the news, where there wasn’t someone claiming she’s fat or ugly. Doesn’t matter if it’s a cover girl or what. It’s probably a law, like Godwin’s.

This chick is clearly sick, but she’s neither fat nor hampered by poor genetics in the “looks” department. So it’s cringeworthy to see folks bring that up like it’s relevant. In fact, it’s cringeworthy to see it brought up when it’s almost relevant. It’s not her looks or weight that are the problem here.

I’ve finally figured out what has been bothering me so much about this girl’s story.
It hit me after watching a few of the interviews with her.
The interviewers engage her with chin-holding seriousness and treat her as some sort of philosopher.
You put it best when you said “ostentatious posture of non-judgmentalism.”
They all approach her with an earnestness – appearing to try to give her a chance to air her point of view – regardless of the inanity. And when she says inane things, they just nod and move on.
And I think what bothers me is that the “wizards of smart” won’t give a fraction of this earnest non-judgementalism to someone like, say, Ted Cruz. The premise immediately is “Why are you so crazy and why do you believe stupid things” with just about any conservative.
Am I upset about the moral aspect?
I’m more resigned than upset.
The potheads, pornographers, and pederasts have made huge inroads. I’m just doing what I can with my own family.

And in other news from “College Mascots Gone Wild,” a university spokesman stated categorically that there is no compelling evidence to substantiate any rumors that a certain university mascot is paying for an allegedly massive legume habit through pachyderm-porn.

While said mascot was frequently called “rotund” as a youth, and has been seeking mental health support services, a spokesman for the scarlet pachyderm issued a statement that the mascot’s recent stay in the “Jimmy Carter Legume Clinic” have centered on “disappointment with the kicking game” at said university and not any alleged “legume abuse” or “self-esteem” issues! A friend of the mascot, requesting to remain anonymous, urged everyone to give these “hate-filled, anti-pachyderm-ist slurs” far less credence than the well-established fact that a certain coach at a certain university in the western portion of the state defrauded “Ole Nick” when he offered his soul in exchange for success on the grid iron. As it turns out, said coach is, in fact, a “soul-less” extraterrestrial.

l mentioned in one of the twenty or so other posts on Belle that she didn’t wake up on her 18th birthday and decide to go porn star. She was abused and groomed for the role, probably for years, and it wouldn’t be a shock to find serious drug involvement.

It’s a sad case. 18 may be legal adulthood but it hardly guarantees adult maturity. That various outlets are having her on for interviews does them no credit. Nor does the attention here do this site credit.

This is a seriously disturbed young woman.

Anybody remember when Sasha Grey was a thing? She would spout the same Women’s Studies nonsense about empowerment that Miriam Weeks does. Her ability to string three coherent sentences together somehow established her as an intellectual. (Lord, how far we’ve sunk as a culture.) Coincidentally, she specialized in, let’s just say, the darker aspects of the human sexual experience just like Ms. Weeks. Where is she now, pray tell? If Miriam Weeks didn’t have the hook of Duke University she wouldn’t be on CNN or The View. We’d have been rid of her by now.

This what we get when society embraces a philosophy where every qualitative analysis of any issue is viewed as the functional equivalent of the choice between Coke or Pepsi. With the Postmodern penchant for deconstructing, i.e. destroying, everything, it is now impermissible or at least very bad taste to discriminate among various courses of action or to weigh the respective values of behaviors. To do so is deemed to be “judgmental” and therefore, icky. And thus, are standards eliminated because society choose no longer to name them; to call things as they are.

Reports of interviews with family and friends have stated that the parents are still paying back student loans, and that they have spent about $1 million on the education of their three children over the past 20+ years. I’ve seen similar sacrifices for the education of kids made in a lot of Asian families, including extended family members. Her mother is from India, where education is highly valued. I think people also believe that the reported $200,000 a year he makes NOW, is what he’s been making for 20 years. Having briefly been in the medical field, I can assure you that it is not.

An issue with teenage girls who watch their weight (by dieting etc) but don’t do enough resistance training in the gym to build/conserve muscle.

Belle Knox is going to gym and lifting weights (to build muscle), so now she is technically not skinny fat. But she still has some excess fat considering her low body weight, its the reason why she doesn’t have flat abs yet.
