Apologies for the lack of posting, but the last couple of days in the tax mines have been pretty hellacious. I’ve basically had time to do nothing but prepare taxes, eat, sleep, excrete, and clean up so I can go back to doing taxes. Regular posting (or something like it) should resume Wednesday. Maybe Thursday. We’ll see how it goes.

Excreting and preparing taxes… I see the opportunity for a bold political statement here! Go get’em!

You take care of business! And after that get some sleep and gruel!

I spent a few hours yesterday doing my income taxes. I had to pay $324 to Uncle Sam, which isn’t too bad: it means that I got it pretty close to right, wasn’t lending the government money, interest free, but I still hate taxes.

Now, I don’t object to paying taxes for things which apply to the community, for roads, for schools (though I do object to how poorly the money is spent), for police and national defense, but I certainly do object to paying taxes for welfare and for income redistribution.

I suspect you didn’t have time to catch up on GoT either.

We understand taxes but the progressive income tax is an abomination. Because once you do that all manner of nefarious social engineering is possible. So while the ungrateful live at our expense those of us who produce and contribute to the community are faced with a tax code so complex it’s impossible to navigate. Any claim by Democrats that they are concerned about taxpayers is always a lie.

Wombat has my sympathies. I worked for HRB for a few years a while back. I remember after two 60 hour weeks reading about an actor who has homes in New Zealand, Sydney, London, and LA. My very first thought after reading that sentence was “Oh. My. God! That’s got to be at least FIVE tax jurisdictions! No way do I ever want to be his accountant!”. My second thought was that I obviously needed more than a few days off.

I believe that the Framers had it right: taxes should be based on population, and not on income. Everyone should pay the same dollar amount in taxes, not the same percentage of their income.

The 16th Amendment is the greatest error we have ever made, even worse than electing Barack Hussein Obama.

I’ve had more than a few moments like that these past few tax seasons.

You’ll get no argument from me.
