Gunman Targets Christian University

Posted on | June 6, 2014 | 19 Comments

Four shot, one dead, killer is in custody:

A lone gunman armed with a shotgun opened fire Thursday in a building at Seattle Pacific University, killing one person before a student subdued him with pepper spray as he tried to reload, police said.
The 26-year-old gunman, Aaron Ybarra, was obsessed with the Columbine High School shootings and had even traveled to the Colorado site where two student gunmen killed 15 and injured another 21 fellow students in April 1999, police sources told KIRO 7.
Ybarra was not a student at SPU where the shootings happened about 3:25 p.m. Thursday. . . .
The school canceled activities and classes for the remainder of Thursday and Friday. A prayer service started at 7 p.m.
“We’re a community that relies on Jesus Christ for strength and we’ll need that at this time,” said Dan Martin, president of Seattle Pacific University, which is located at the edge of a leafy Queen Anne neighborhood about 5 miles from downtown Seattle.

Wow. Smitty and I are familiar with the area. I took my SATs there.

It’s down the street from the houseboat in Sleepless in Seattle

Have you seen the report on Lex’s crash yet? Hard reading. Turns out GCA hadn’t completely ran him outta gas and there was a fire. I doubt he was killed in the fire, but I’m sure it was pretty gruesome sight when his body was removed from the wreckage.
Although he still had some fuel, he was coming down regardless. GCA did screw up, however. Lex seemed to be having a hard time staying on the runway alignment and glideslope. Anything that could go wrong seemed to. Both XBradTC and The Armorer have links to the report.

I haven’t dug through it yet.

If Lex was having a hard time lining up, it’s probably a combination of the plane and weather, which he commented on frequently. As I recall from the early reports, he tried to land from one direction twice, and went around to try it from the other direction when he crashed. That plane was a handful at slow speed on the best days, which that days was definitely not.

I miss him. That was a bad week; we lost Bretibart only a few days earlier.

Mothers Against Anything Remotely Resembling Common Sense is already on this like a vulture on carrion. I’d just like to point out that person who pepper sprayed the bastard had to wait until he was out of bullets before doing anything. Any of those law-abiding students, however, could have prevented more than one person from being shot by firing back from behind cover if they’d, oh I don’t know, had a gun. Funny how that works.

    Amen!

How many of these spree shooters have paused to reload and been able to continue? The nut at Virginia Tech a few years back had problems, was fiddling with the new clip for two minutes or so, but no one approach him.

The cops said this guy was loaded with rounds and also a large knife, prepared to kill a bunch of people. But the kid – who was like a “hall monitor” according to one report – used the pause to get the shooter in a choke hold, saving an untold number of lives.

    Bravo!

They probably figure the guy would have stopped on his own if students had begun to sing “Kumbaya” and offered him some nice herbal tea.

The Kumbaya and tea works provided is combined with well placed shots from an appropriate weapon.
