New Ukraine President Condemns Insurgents as ‘Gangsters and Killers’

Talking tough:

Petro Poroshenko took the oath of office as Ukraine’s president Saturday, calling on armed groups to lay down their weapons as he assumed leadership of a country mired in a violent uprising and economic troubles.
In his inaugural address to the Verkhovna Rada, the country’s parliament, Poroshenko promised amnesty “for those who do not have blood on their hands.” . . .
Poroshenko also promised dialogue with citizens in the eastern regions, but excluded the insurgents.
“Talking to gangsters and killers is not our avenue,” he said, according to a translator. . . .
Poroshenko said he will not accept Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
“Crimea is, was and will be Ukrainian. There will be no trade-off,” Poroshenko said.

“Anti-American Sentiment Growing in Russia” — kind of like the “sentiment” on our university campuses, really.

Wait. A politician just called a spade a spade? Where the hell am I and how did I manage to get out of the batshit insane “reality” we’ve all been living in for the past several years?

I denounce you for noticing. I thoroughly denounce you. I leave the Superlative denunciations to the KY educated denouncer, Dana, who does them very well.

Didn’t know that – but I suppose if you’ve once been “educated” by lubricating jelly, you won’t forget the lessons.

Crimea IS part of Ukraine. Russia could have made a case to keep it and other territories at the time of the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but chose not to do so.

Now, over twenty years laters, the matter is settled. Those Western apologists who cite some mythical “historical” connection with Russia are likely among those being paid off by Putin’s foreign propaganda outfit (it includes bloggers, even some “conservative” ones).

957 days and counting to endure spineless, feckless foreign policy and autocratic rule by decree here at home. The only bright spot is there are already articles appearing saying Obama has “given up” on the Presidency and will spend more time vacationing and golfing, even though he already holds the all-time records in all those categories by far.
