Dance teacher Nichol Marie Phelps molested 15-year-old girl.

Readers may remember the case of Nichol Marie Phelps, the married 30-year-old dance teacher in Florida who said she would leave her husband for the “hot” 15-year-old student she molested in 2012. Phelps was sentenced to prison last week:

Though she’s only 17, the young dancer testified Friday that her childhood ended long ago.
“The child within me is truly gone and has been for a really long time,” the teen told her former dance instructor, Nichol Phelps. “With your selfish games, you stole someone’s childhood, their innocence.”

(“Innocence”? Isn’t that an oppressive patriarchal concept?)

The testimony came during a four-hour hearing Friday at the Orange County Courthouse, during which Circuit Judge Mike Murphy sentenced Phelps, of Cape Coral, to 8 1/2 years in prison, followed by sex-offender probation. . . .

(Eight-and-a-half years? Homophobia!)

Friday’s hearing featured emotional testimony from both families. Phelps’ husband and mother described her as a devout Christian and loving mom of two, whose children rely on her presence and care.
“I am so sorry,” Phelps told Murphy. “Please, think of my family.”
Phelps and her defense portrayed the teen as the aggressor. Phelps testified that the girl made advances which “should have been handled in a mature manner, and they were not.” . . .

(Uh, the 15-year-old was “the aggressor” who “made advances”? How many sex offenders in Florida prisons tried that excuse?)

“I hate you, but I loved you,” the teen told Phelps in her testimony. “That’s what I struggle with the most…. You hurt me.”
She added: “You will not take from me who I am today, because today I love myself… I am no longer a victim, I am a survivor.”

I do not think those words mean what she thinks they mean.

A “devout Christian” can do very bad things, but that also includes showing remorse when one slips and facing one’s punishment. I would suggest she carefully read “Crime and Punishment.” She will certainly have the time for proper study.

Kudos to the Court for imposing an appropriate sentence.

I find it remarkable that all of the old community outrage against sexual crimes perpetrated against children is slowly evaporating, unless of courses it’s one of those vile white Christian sorts doing the perpetrating.

I suspect it’s a combination of factors. We’re becoming inured to these acts, simply as a consequence of sheer overload of sexual deviancy in society. Meek members of the community are afraid to speak out because political correctness dictates that you watch your tongue, especially when commenting on ‘social acceptable’ deviant acts. And, of course, it’s an agenda item of the LGBTQWTF Coalition of Deviance.

Yeah, of course, blame gay rights.

According to the Orlando Sentinel she stayed in contact with the perp, after the alleged “molestation”(nice the way they use that word to make it seem like this happened to a pre-pubescent child) and exchanged over 550 texts with her. She also claim’s she “loved her”. I’m beginning to believe it’s less the act that causes the problems, and more the reaction by society to it. That would also account for all the courtroom melodrama about her “lost innocence”. She probably would have said the same if the high school quarterback broke her heart.

    It’s all of a piece.

  35. WhateverMan

Funny how she was pursuing contact with the dance teacher, and thought she was in love, but once other people found out she had to start acting like a victim, and professing in open court about her “innocence was lost”. It’s the same with all these cases where teenagers get involved with either adults, or older teens. They pursue the relationship, enjoy the sex, and then when they get caught they have to act like a victim, and pretend they hated every second of it, and were persuaded against their will, (even though in numerous cases the younger party is the aggressor) for the sake of their parent’s and society, because that’s why they expect. Perhaps you didn’t get laid in high school, but when a teenage girl is set on someone she’s like a tiger who wont stop until she gets her prey.

And of course you have to make this into an issue about gay people. All that Christian programming as a child has perverted your mind.

The woman is a predator and could not help herself in providing airtight evidence of that fact: blaming the child victim for being the aggressor. Your comments indicate a a rather robust willingness to accept the word of the the criminal over that of the adolescent, thereby providing further evidence that the gratification of whatever desires you have at the moment trump all propriety, the law, or anything else which would stand in your way of instant gratification.

Not directly on point, but dovetailing with various issues discussed by our host, I point to this WaPo article about the incidents of violence and abuse of women and children among married individuals v. unmarried cohabiting couples . The facts are quite interesting. The study will be decried by Feminists shortly, I’m sure.

  40. WhateverMan
    June 10th, 2014 @ 8:23 pm

Yeah, challenging conventional thinking means I’m actually a predator. The facts in all these cases speak for themselves. These girls are willing participants, and then when they get caught, and dont want to look like sluts, and to look like a good little girl for mom, and dad, and society at large they claim it was rape.

  41. WhateverMan
    June 10th, 2014 @ 8:33 pm

No, my comments indicate no such thing. They indicate only a desire to challenge conventional wisdom. One, I have no interest in underage women, and in fact at my age even 28 is starting to seem too young, and two, I can control myself, and would never put myself in a position, no matter how strong my desires, that has such stiff legal consequences, and other damaging repercussions. That’s the one thing I always find fascinating about these people: how they get so overwhelmed with desire they can burn down their whole life. That must be some high. No argument that this woman is damaged in some way, but to call her a “predator” is beyond the bounds of reality. Predators take what they want with no shame, and don’t seek to leave their life behind for something like this. Predators This woman thought she was in love. That’s hardly predatory. In fact, it’s kind of sappy, and lame, like the teacher in that Matthew Broderick movie “Election” who has an affair with the Reese Witherspoon character and then cries like a baby when it’s over. And who hasnt dated someone with damage? If that was the only cause needed for criminal charges I would have happily thrown a girlfriend, or two in the slam.

  42. WhateverMan
    June 10th, 2014 @ 8:35 pm

Of course I know that, and Im not arguing that this woman showed bad judgment, but come on, this girl in my opinion was a willing participant, and then played the victim card when it all came to light, capping it all off with some courtroom theatrics about her “lost innocence”. Please…and like anyone living in this slaughterhouse we call a society has innocence left to lose?

  43. RS
    June 10th, 2014 @ 9:09 pm

Yet you try to make excuses for the behavior and blame the adolescent. Your appeal to challenging “conventional thinking” is merely an attempt to destroy social structure and provide a rationale for “anything goes.” It’s pathetic, and indicates how morally bereft you and your ilk truly are.

Why don’t you just admit it? You hate the fact that the victim’s mental state, i.e. purported “consent” is irrelevant, and wish to move to a standard where there are no rules, only emotions and feelings. That way lies madness. The fact that you refuse to acknowledge that speaks volumes about both you and the state of our society.

  48. Durasim

Also according to the Orlando Sentinel, it was Phelps who “cultivated” the sexual relationship. She singled the minor out from her peers and treated her more favorably, and then made the overtures and advances, which is classic grooming behavior. Phelps is the one who said that the minor was “hot” and suggested what kind of sex acts she wanted to perform on the minor. When the minor was trying to console Phelps after having an argument with a parent, Phelps is the one who shed her restraint and started pressing the minor against a wall and kissing her.

    http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2014-03-31/news/os-dance-teacher-convicted-child-sex-20140331_1_dance-instructor-orlando-international-airport-dance-convention

As for the minor still having contact with Phelps and claiming that she “loved” Phelps, it is not unusual for victims of sexual abuse to maintain contact or even to claim to feel “love” or attachment to
their abuser. Some of them even claim to be sad that their abuser goes to jail. Even some of Sandusky’s victims claimed that they “loved” him:

“A third accuser, known as Victim 3, was an Army National Guard soldier who testified Thursday that despite being fondled by Sandusky he had viewed him
as a father figure and was crushed when he was sent to a group home and Sandusky never contacted him again.

“I would pray he would call me and maybe find a way to get me out of
there,” he said, “but it never happened.”

He testified that he felt uncomfortable when Sandusky touched his genitals in
bed and he would roll over to prevent anything else from happening but that he didn’t tell Sandusky not to get into bed with him.

“He made me feel like I was a part of something, like a family,” the man said. “He gave me things that I hadn’t had before.”

He said that he loved Sandusky and that Sandusky treated him like he was part
of an extended family that made him feel “unconditionally loved.”

    http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-football/story/2012-06-14/jerry-sandusky-trial-testimony-victim-6-locker-room-shower

The fact that juvenile victims sometimes claim to “love” their abusers does not necessarily mitigate or lessen the crimes of those abusers. That only demonstrates how abusers and molesters can manipulate and brainwash somebody.

If some hypothetical quarterback broke somebody’s heart, it is usually a matter of teenage angst, so long as the two are within the legal age range. However, prosecution is not always ruled out. The high school seniors who slept with Phoebe Prince were threatened with prosecution for statutory rape after Prince committed suicide, and blamed for allegedly using their school social status to wield power of some vulnerable fifteen year old.

As for blaming gay rights, every identity politics and advocacy group seeks to portray its members and its mission in an idealized light, and to minimize or sanitize bad acts on the parts of its members. If a
twenty-something babysitter gives a teenager some alcohol and then has sex with her, I would think that is supposed to be a bad thing. But according the “Vagina Monologues,” that is a good thing as long as the babysitter and teenager are both female. If a thirty-something politician is taking in drug addicted teenage runaways and having sex with them, that doesn’t seem right. But Harvey Milk did that, and we are supposed to treat him as a patron saint and martyr.
