Libertarians Are Hitler or Something

Eric Cantor was the only Republican Jew in Congress, so when he lost a GOP primary to economics professor Dave Brat, the Left instantly created a narrative that this represented some kind of neo-Nazi tendency of Brat’s libertarian-leaning Tea Party supporters. There are a few obvious problems with this claim, of course:

Libertarianism is the exact opposite of Nazi totalitarianism;
It is the Left that supports terroristic Jew-haters in the Middle East and it was the Left that spent eight years claiming that the Bush administration was in the thrall of Jewish “neocons” who allegedly promoted the Iraq War for nefarious purposes;
and
Some analysts say that Brat beat Cantor because of a surge of Democrats voting for Brat in Virginia’s “open” GOP primary.

But the Left doesn’t care about facts, and neither do the mouthpieces of the GOP Establishment at the Wall Street Journal.

Facts are absolutely irrelevant. This is stray voltage. They now have us taking what should be a good news cycle, and spending it on the defensive saying “hey we are Nazis.” That’s never a good argument to have.

The other side sure knows how to play the game.

It’s hooey. The (mostly) same district elected Cantor SEVEN times to Congress and part of it voted him twice to the House of Delegates. Did they suddenly wake up 20 years later hating Jews? Having lived in the Richmond area for 20+ years (until 1986), once in a neighborhood lovingly called “Little Israel” for the % of Jewish families there, I can tell you the area is not tolerant of antisemites.

The statement the lefties are using is out of context, as per usual for the totalitarian left. Brat was saying Hitler could rise again today, given the right conditions, but he was clearly calling out that as a danger of modern politics, as a warning, not proposing it. Kos is a lying little shi’ite.

The “crossover” argument is 100% bogus. As others have pointed out, if the Democrats were that well organized in that district, it would be more competitive. And I GUARANTEE 90%+ of the voters have no idea who Ben Jones is – with good reason: he’s nobody and influences nobody.

Did Levin show up? Ingraham did, held a rally and got tons of publicity.

If you’re thinking he had an influence just from the radio show, I doubt it seriously. Nobody who wasn’t already opposed to Cantor even listens.

I agree Laura going personally was huge, but the radio plugs definitely helped Brat:

But he was a known quantity to the loyal audiences of radio personalities like Ms. Ingraham and Mark Levin, a Reagan aide and a revered figure in the conservative movement, and Breitbart.com, the website founded by the provocateur Andrew Breitbart.

Together, Mr. Levin and Ms. Ingraham reach nearly 10 million people each week. And the Breitbart sites log 60 million page views each month. Those audiences are heavy with engaged, politically motivated voters who turn out in Republican primaries — the kind of voters who came out for Mr. Brat on Tuesday.

“Of the 70,000 voters yesterday in Virginia, I am sure 95 percent go to Drudge, Breitbart, Mark Levin or Laura Ingraham every day, multiple times a day,” said Stephen K. Bannon, who wears many hats as a radio host, a filmmaker and the executive chairman of Breitbart.

Reid Epstein, who wrote the obviously dishonest piece, is a recent alumnus of Politico. The WSJ editors must do a better job of weaning him of his bad habits.

A minor curiosity to me is that I tried searching many times over the last few days to see if Brat—and I also tried the same thing, searching on David Jolly—were supported openly by either Ted Cruz or his (and DeMint’s) Senate Conservatives PAC.

I couldn’t find a thing (other than a statement by someone at Senate Conservatives who claimed Brat’s win was a good thing, and also one extremely thin bit of reporting by some guy who claimed Brat’s win was a “win for Ted Cruz,” with no quotes from Cruz.)

So it seems like some of these Mark Levin type candidates are sneaking past the notice of some of the bigger players.

Not sure what that means.

I can’t remember whether I saw this on Facebook last night or what, but apparently Cantor knew it was all over when a couple of staunch GOP precincts in Henrico County went solidly for Brat after years of backing Cantor. Same item also discounted Democrat crossover influence.

You may find that Senator Cruz is one of those who do not endorse during the primaries on the grounds that the District locals should make the decision. His support would then be offered to the winner of the primary.

Radio matters if only in motivating those who are opposed to Cantor. They came out strong to vote. Others did not. Cantor went down.
