Atheist Progressive Makes Rape Threat About Conservative’s Teen Daughter

Posted on | July 10, 2014 | 143 Comments

Preston Smith (@common_alias) is an atheist progressive supporter of Hillary Clinton’s incipient 2016 presidential campaign. C. Steven Tucker (@CSteven) is a Chicago businessman, Tea Party activist and ObamaCare critic. Wednesday afternoon, Tucker sent out a Twitter message about calls to impeach President Obama. Smith responded with a sick comment — CC’d to Tucker’s wife Andrea — that appeared to be a rape threat directed at one of their teenage daughters:

Why? Beyond Smith’s perverse interpretation of an Old Testament passage, it seems Smith had devoted enough attention to his target to be able to locate Tucker’s wife’s account, showing her with the couple’s three children in the profile picture.

You can imagine how any parent would take alarm at such a comment. Tucker said he has reported Smith to law enforcement, but I’m afraid the Tuckers will be disappointed to learn that, from a legal standpoint, a comment like Smith’s is not be considered a “threat.” A threat, in the legal sense, requires that there be some reason for the target to fear that the person making the threat will actually carry it out.

In other words, if I say, “I’d like to beat Preston Smith to a bloody pulp,” that’s not a threat, legally. On the other hand, if I were to say, “I’ve got Preston Smith’s home address and I just booked my flight from Dulles to Miami tomorrow so that I can kill that vicious bastard with my bare hands” — well, the specificity of such a comment could be seen as a legitimate threat that might cause him to fear that an enraged redneck could show up at his front door with murderous intent.

The difference between these hypothetical scenarios may seem trivial legalistic hair-splitting to the layman. On the other hand, if I told you that Delta Flight 6224 left Dulles at 6:10 a.m., connnecting through Detroit via Flight 1829 to arrive at Miami International Airport before noon, you might believe I’d given it serious consideration. And if Steven Tucker posted a selfie of himself at O’Hare Airport boarding a non-stop flight to Miami, that could also be taken as indicating Preston Smith has reasonable cause to fear for his safety.

But these are just hypothetical scenarios, of course.

Words mean something, or language is useless. You hate taking things literally, when the context indicate it’s meant to be taken that way, because you hate the result. That you do so matters little. You simply want to live your life any old way you wish, no matter how destructive it is to yourself or others.

God will allow you to live the way you want, but there are consequences to idiocy. When you are warned and continue, then you are a fool.

“A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.” Proverbs 18:7

” A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.” Proverbs 14:16

“Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.” Isaiah 59:7

“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.” Proverbs 12:15

The wise man heeds the warning, but the fool goes on to destruction.

Under the Law a person could be put to death only upon the testimony of at least two people, and they did not have to male. Islam’s Sahria is a perversion of God’s Law.

Quartermaster, I think the guy’s point is you shouldn’t condemn women for committing adultery. It’s not a death penalty offense, in other words. I agree with him on that.

By the same token, we might all be missing on a lot of context that has faded from memory now,. Things that would have not been necessary to mention at the time because everybody knew the context, unlike today.

Fort example, I read once where somebody explained that the reason God commanded the Israelites to kill all the Canaanites was due to the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases among them, which of course was incurable at that particular time in history. It was considered a divine curse that had to be eradicated.

A person who isn’t in the know about this might read these passages and assume this to be proof that God is an insane, hateful and bigoted Hitlerian type of savage entity.

Which is why you need to read everything with an eye to the context of the times.

Oh, it’s so much enlightened when you put it that way! LOL! They’re still advocating putting people to death for adultery. Yeah, we need to take that literally! Proves math smart people aren’t actually that smart. It’s like classical musicians: they can read a chart, but ask them to improvise, and it’s like a deer in headlights. In other words you can process, and regurgitate information, but there’s not a hell of a lot of critical thinking, or free thought in that thick skull of yours. And are you telling me that you really take a passage like that seriously? Even the Catholic Church is cherry picking the Bible these days.

It’s the same with all the nonsense about not eating pork, or having clean plates. It was part of the times. No one takes such nonsense seriously anymore. If there was such a supreme entity he really gives a toss about eating pig, or making sure the house is spotless before a sedar? It’s absurd.

You should try to see the reasoning. These laws were originally handed down orally at the start of the Iron Age. In other words, following the collapse of the Bronze Age.

This is significant. Most people today don’t understand how highly advanced Bronze Age Civilization really was. No, there wasn’t a high level of technical achievement (though this too was probably more advanced than most might believe), but it was very civilized, with high levels of cultural achievement.

When it fell, at the onset of the Iron Age, that is when times became very savage and brutal, Rape became commonplace, for just one example.Life in general became very cheap.

Those old laws were a way of trying to reestablish some semblance of sanity and control in the middle of what amounted to overall world chaos.

Under the law adultery was a capital offense. That does not mean it should continue. He picks and chooses what he wants to take from scripture in an effort to make God look like a fool. Alas, he is simply playing the part of a preening fool.
I have pointed out one of the bare principles of hermeneutics. He didn’t want to listen, which is the point because he wants to troll. What scripture says as a whole is both beyond his ability, but also beyond his desire.

It’s not worth the headache to make folks register, and that cuts way back on page views. Only a few clowns do the IP switcheroo anyway, and locking their IP each time slows them down enough to make them work harder than any committed troll can muster the energy.

The exception of course are the deranged, cyberstalkers, but even they have to sleep.

Blocking all of their IPs might end up blocking everyone at the public library in their hometown, but no real loss there.

The worst troll management problems happen when you get a Drudge link (or Bretibart or whatever). Then it’s an endless parade of geniuses that think they are the first one to come up with the same “clever,” one-liner, Bill Maher-style comment on the obvious.

  46. Quartermaster
    July 11th, 2014 @ 12:46 pm

The primary purpose of scripture is salvation history – God’s dealings with men. The was given, as Paul expressed, to teach. It teaches two things, the standard of holiness, and the consequences of that standard is breached. IN our age the temporal consequences are held in abeyance, but the temporal consequences was to model what would happen if a person did not accept God’s provision for sin in this life. Death will be the eternal consequence of sin, and death in the sense that God is talking about eternally is eternal separation from God. Since there are only two destinations in eternity, the consequences are ghastly if sin is not abandoned and God’s way to avoid that destination is not accepted.
I think God realized that there would be people that would not like what He was teaching. The only problem is He didn’t, and doesn’t, care what puny men think of Him. He had the power to create the cosmos and will have no problem dealing with someone that has only the slightest inkling of what that took, yet spits in His face.
Hate to say it, but the world is headed to chaos. It’s what Satan wants, and God is allowing evil to gain power so it will stand up and teach men what happens when they go their own way. then, He will appear to the entire population of the earth and come and crush that evil and rule himself. And, he will rule with a rod of iron.
