John Walsh Keeps Nabbing Bad Guys; Molester Killed in NYC Shootout

Charles Mozdir liked little boys:

Investigators say they sifted through hundreds of tips in their search for Charles Mozdir, but a phone call they got during CNN’s “The Hunt” with John Walsh helped them crack the case.
On Monday, eight days after the show first aired, the 32-year-old suspected sex offender died in a shootout in New York City as police closed in.
During the show, first broadcast on July 20, a deputy U.S. marshal fielding calls got a tip about Mozdir, accused in a 2012 California child molestation case. . . .
The tip was the first strong lead about his whereabouts investigators had in more than two years, but they didn’t know where he’d gone since.
“It was the newest information we had,” Jurman said. “Our case went cold in 2012. He was definitely living on cash, with a good fake ID. He was off our grid.”
That changed on Monday, when a New York police detective and two U.S. marshals entered the smoke shop in New York City where Mozdir worked.
Mozdir “fired on officers at a very close range,” New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said, and “officers returned fire.” The officers were wounded during the shootout, but are expected to recover, authorities said.
Mozdir been sought by authorities since June 2012.. . .
Mozdir had a 32-caliber revolver with 20 spare rounds of ammunition in his pocket at the time of his death, the police commissioner said. . . .
Mozdir was arrested in California in 2012 after the young son of two close friends told his parents that Mozdir had touched his private parts. . . .
“He was on the run for almost two years. And this family was destroyed, terrified that he would come back and hurt them because they had the courage to come forward and file charges against him,” Walsh said Monday.
On the run from authorities, Mozdir had apparently shared with others his plan to one day kill the young boy’s father for turning him in, Walsh said. “And now they don’t have to worry if this guy’s coming back to hurt the family or hurt their little boy. So there’s a big sigh of relief tonight that Charles Mozdir is off this planet.”
After the parents’ report in 2012, investigators in Coronado, California, executed a search warrant on Mozdir’s house and found evidence of child pornography and bestiality on his cell phone and computers, according to U.S. Marshals Service deputy Brian Grimes. . . .

Years ago, watching America’s Most Wanted every Saturday night was kind of a family ritual. What made the show so different from anything on TV was that John Walsh didn’t mince words about the criminal fugitives — the killer or child molester police were looking for was a “creep,” an “animal,” a “monster.” Walsh urged viewers to “help get this bad guy off the streets.” That tradition continues with The Hunt:

On Monday, Walsh described Mozdir’s death as a “tough ending.”
“It really reaffirms my belief that people don’t want to be vigilantes. They want to be involved and do the right thing,” he said.
“This is our first capture. I’m very sorry that those police officers got wounded in the line of duty,” Walsh said, “but this is one more lowlife that’s off the streets.”

That kind of strong language — the moral clarity between good and evil — is something America needs more of. Way to go, John.

One of the worst aspects of the culture is the pollution of language. The unwillingness to tell the straight truth is a serious impediment to dealing with reality. That Walsh is willing to “tell it like it is” is a very good thing.

John Walsh has also vowed to continue Piers Morgan’s good work and “take the fight” to the NRA.

Walsh said the vice president replied, “John, every one of them. Because the NRA will run a tea bagger against you. …”

Funny how Mozdir had a handgun in NYC, but any law abiding person there has about zero chance of having one him or herself. I genuinely like the work John Walsh does, but using the term “tea bagger” and being so anti gun makes me question his judgment.

His attitudes towards the 2A are well known and they have never been friendly. He’s a jumped up flaming liberal that built a career off his son. I never have, don’t now, and never will have any use for him.

People don’t want to be vigilantes, but they do want to be able to protect themselves. Walsh is on the wrong side in this. He is of the opinion that people shouldn’t be able to arm themselves in public.

Yeah, I was disappointed that Walsh threw in with the gun-grabbers. That political failure, however, does not diminish my admiration for Walsh’s courage in calling criminal lowlifes what they are.

America doesn’t hate criminals as much as we ought to hate criminals. Liberals have spent so many decades trying to blame “society” for crime, obscuring the reality of personal responsibility. Also, most intellectuals are far removed from the culture that incubates crime, and don’t understand the mind of the criminal. Anything that helps people understand that reality — especially the criminal’s selfish disregard for the suffering of others — is a welcome counter-balance to the idiotic “let’s blame society” approach favored by liberals.

John Walsh did not “nab” this guy, guys with guns in New York City did that. I give Walsh limited credit for focusing on scumbags like Mozdir and helping getting them captured, but he does get paid for doing this (not that I have a problem with that, but I suspect he is paid well for being on TV). And if he is going to oppose legal law abiding persons not being able to protect themselves, I have a problem with that.

I agree. Most criminals are treated as having issues growing up that caused them to be what they are. Some people are just so evil, and you need to tell it as it is and that makes people more proactive in locating them.

My heart has always gone out to John and Reve Walsh. I cannot imagine anything worse than having your child murdered. In this I have a lot of respect for what John has done.

But he’s wrong on the 2nd Amendment. Just wrong. Had guns been illegal back in 1981, Adam Walsh would still be just as dead. How is it that people cannot see an essential truth like that?

The 2nd Amendment has done a lot more than John Walsh has for keeping us safe from criminals.

I’d rather rely on my guns than some dumb tv show and a grandstanding host.

Nobody “relies” on a TV show for protection.

    Not one person anywhere.

You’re correct about the media refusing to call things like they are. So kudos to Walsh for that. For some reason, media types think there’s an assumed moral equivalence that only the viewers may weigh in on and decide which “side” of an issue is right.

But in so doing, they elevate the obviously defective or immoral criminals to the same level as law-abiding citizens.

Michael Coren is also one of the few people in media that seem willing to call a kook a kook. Check out his comments on a pro-Palestinian protest in Toronto by a bunch of white people, some calling him a racist. Really bizarre.
