Gender Theory Hits K-12 Schools

Posted on | October 9, 2014 | 109 Comments

When I describe radical feminism as taught in university Women’s Studies programs, one typical reaction is, “So what? That’s just a bunch of academics. Besides, wait until those idiots get their Women’s Studies degrees. Where are they gonna get a job?”

Maybe your child’s school. Katherine Timpf reports at National Review:

A Nebraska school district has instructed its teachers to stop referring to students by “gendered expressions” such as “boys and girls,” and use “gender inclusive” ones such as “purple penguins” instead.
“Don’t use phrases such as ‘boys and girls,’ ‘you guys,’ ‘ladies and gentlemen,’ and similarly gendered expressions to get kids’ attention,” instructs a training document given to middle-school teachers at the Lincoln Public Schools.
“Create classroom names and then ask all of the ‘purple penguins’ to meet on the rug,” it advises.
The document also warns against asking students to “line up as boys or girls,” and suggests asking them to line up by whether they prefer “skateboards or bikes/milk or juice/dogs or cats/summer or winter/talking or listening.”
“Always ask yourself . . . ‘Will this configuration create a gendered space?’” the document says.
The instructions were part of a list called “12 steps on the way to gender inclusiveness” developed by Gender Spectrum, an organization that “provides education, training and support to help create a gender sensitive and inclusive environment for children of all ages.”

Read the whole thing. You might also want to read the Gender Spectrum guidelines. Readers will perhaps not be surprised to learn that Gender Spectrum founder Stephanie Brill is author of The Queer Parent’s Primer and The New Essential Guide to Lesbian Conception, Pregnancy, and Birth, and co-author of The Transgender Child: A Handbook for Families and Professionals. In a 2010 interview, Brill said: “As a part of the butch/trans community, my social and professional world is very gender diverse.” So at least she practices what she preaches, eh?

The point is that this kind of radicalism can’t be contained to college campuses. Inevitably, the feminists who learn “gender theory” in Women’s Studies programs will want to implement those theories throughout society, including your local public schools — even in Nebraska! As I have previously explained (“Radical Lesbian Feminism: Coming Soon to a Public School Classroom Near You?”), the American Association of University Women (AAUW) is pushing to introduce “gender studies” to the high school curriculum, “creating innovative spaces for young people to engage in feminism and activism, equity, and social justice in today’s classrooms.” The AAUW symposium on this program featured lesbian teacher Ileana Jimenez.

The hashtag #IDG2014 is for “International Day of the Girl” and, when you see radical feminists declaring how “committed to culture change” they are, doesn’t this make you just slightly curious as to what direction they intend to change culture?

I think 6% is a huge overstatement because of the overlap, but even so, your point remains.

Yes…reverse engineering boys and girls to not think of themselves as boys and girls is clearly the most important thing to focus on to improve America’s school systems…nothing is more pressing.

Not to advocate for communism, but why should the advocation of overthrowing the government be illegal? I thought that would be protected speech.

The same corporations that drove the campaign for public education created socialism and also pushed socialist ideology on teachers.

This is coming! There is nothing we can do about it. Already, most of the teachers in the public schools are indoctrinated. Here in California, property prices are artificially pumped up, so the state can collect higher taxes ostensibly to be spent on public education. Even if you opt to not send your kids to public schools, you still end up paying the taxes which are directly used in these indoctrination programs in the schools. This system sucks! Those who want to opt out of public schools must get tax refunds which they can use to do homeschooling or go to private schools.

At least it used to be socially unacceptable and politically a dead end at least in this country. The fall of the Soviet Union is viewed as the defeat of Communism, time will tell but at a minimum it made the world safe for communists.

I used 6% because that’s the largest number I’ve seen used. Be that as it may the smaller the minority the easier it is to obliterate and thus the more threatened it will feel. The dynamic I described above applies to the Mideast as well.

I guess, since they’ve finally produced a generation that has utterly no idea what an apostrophe is for or the difference between “then” and “than,” they’ve moved on to the next goal of producing a generation that will have utterly no idea what their genitals are for or the difference between male and female.

How about getting back to the basics of reading, writing, arithmetic, and teaching critical thought? Screw this feminist anti cisgender garbage. Boys are boys, Girls are girls. If they want to change their gender identity later on, they can do so.

Teachers need to teach, not indoctrinate students in social justice garbage.

My alternative was parochial schools, but your point is the same. People are willfully blind to what goes on and what is taught in public schools. If they do know–or have an idea–they nonetheless shrug their shoulders and send their kids off with some excuse and hope for the best. Then they wonder why their kids get so screwed up by the time they’re off to college.

I couldn’t agree more! Conservative people do not fight like they should. If they would have, when they should have, our world wouldn’t be in the mess it is in now. I once attended a tea party rally and droves of people were showing up… With lawn chairs, looking for a shady spot. I think they are too afraid of being thought of as radical. …and here we are, sold down the river.

Oh there was a fight, unfortunately the more conservative views & those of the right made the mistake of fighting fair, something the left feels no compulsion to do.

After all you remember in the 50’s thru 70’s when the right wing side of educational politics allowed freedom of speech against there own best interests because they legitimately believed in the constitutional right of freedom of speech.

Now the left wing is in charge & freedom of speech is now an expelling offense.

Back in the early 1980s when I was in college, I had to have 27 hours in my major with a B+ average overall to qualify for a B.A. degree. Those in education to teach my subject in high schools had to have 18 hours in the same subject and a C average in the core subject.

Fade to several years ago. My spouse has a Ph.D. and taught courses required for teacher certification in her subject at a top 25 university. Yet she could not obtain certification in our state to teach her subject in a public school unless she demonstrated proof that she had taken one of the courses she had taught. The fact that she had taught the course and her students were now teaching in public schools meant nothing.

Modern public education is about keeping qualified people out of the profession and providing sinecures for the unqualified, but easily lead, footsoldiers of the institutional Left.

Anti-science to deny creationism? Pseudo-science like gender theory can only be fought with real science, not with another pseudo-science

  43. Quartermaster
    October 10th, 2014 @ 5:54 pm

Hardly. But keep feeding that ignorance.

Origins are beyond the reach of science. Darwinian Evolution is not science, it’s, at best, philosophical speculation. There is a form of evolution that is quite well supported and we use it on a daily basis, but Darwin, and idiots like Harris and Dawkins, have nothing to do with it.

    This!
I mean sure they’ve got a college degree but really are all teachers really in it to educate and help young people make something of themselves?
While almost all of them started out that way I believe that for many of them it is now a union job without consequences for sub-standard performance. In the major cities it’s just another numbers racket- push the kids through to the next grade regardless of whether or not they’re ready for it so that the federal dollars keep rolling in.
All K-12 education should be controlled locally. The federal government bureaucracy and local government employee unions are eating up money better spent educating children.

The denial of evolutionary biology as a science and denial of darwinian theory of sexual selection is something you have in common with gender theorists.

It’s a ridiculous, biased book, written by members of the anti-gay lobby and strongly conflicts with the reality that the Nazi party targeted homosexuals for imprisonment, and death, and the very words of Himmler, and Hitler, the two chief architects of the holocaust.

Read Himmlers own words, and then say he was pro-homosexual.

    http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/pwh/naziviews.asp

Furthermore there is no proof Hitler was gay, while there is mountains of evidence that he was a heterosexual who had female love interests.

  50. Dan
    October 11th, 2014 @ 7:20 pm

Of course it seems accurate to you. It confirms all your fears, and bias about homosexual men, and women. Meanwhile every book on Nazi Germany, exhibits at the Holocaust museum, the Shoah foundation, and empirical reality counter the claims in the book, but for you the one half baked book is enough because it validates your prejudice.
