Why Do Feminists Hate Beauty?

Posted on | April 28, 2015 | 125 Comments

“The digital armpit that is Tumblr.com seems to be the preferred medium of young feminists who, although they have accomplished nothing and have no credentials, find that they can become Internet Superstars by disparaging men. It seems that the most formulaic, banal and stereotypical derision of males is enormously popular with a certain type of young woman.”
Robert Stacy McCain, March 12

Exactly why a particularly stupid and rancid type of feminism flourishes on Tumblr is a topic that would require more time than I can afford to put into it today. My wife and I are celebrating our 26th anniversary, and so I’ll spare you my theories about Tumblr feminism. What I want to do instead is to link this Ace of Spades item about a feminist hate-storm against a company’s “Beach Body” ad:

This upset the Social Justice Tumblrinas, who began arguing that Everyone already has a “beach body,” because everyone — well, every woman — already has the perfect body with no need of improvement. (Note that feminists are usually critical of men who could stand to do some pushups.) . . .
Oh, and Protein World called the feminists — many of whom are vandalizing their advertisements, or even threatening to destroy their offices — “terrorists.”

What is it about the celebration of female beauty that angers feminists so much? Gosh, I just can’t imagine what it could be.

NO. Jesus never advocated competition, or survival of the fittest. That is the polar opposite of the “meek shall inherit the earth”.

I’m sure he has, but even so, at least he thinks rationally and speaks coherently, evidenced by the fact that he can differentiate between disagreement and hatred, among other things. You know, unlike feminists.

The meek will inherit the Earth because they have the backing and favor of the most powerful entity in the universe.

Whatever..try rationalizing it however you want, but in the end Jesus was not for the creation of material wealth, or earthly power. He would be siding with the Baltimore rioters, and hung out with all the same people you look down upon, dismiss, and marginalize.

  5. BSR
    April 29th, 2015 @ 12:33 am

Those rioters are thieving and throwing rocks at people. I can’t respect your opinion if you think Jesus would be on board with that. Those behaviors are clearly not acceptable in any reading of the bible I’m familiar with.

They are the victims of an injustice, and no different than the people who he kept company with and resisted Roman occupation, and sometimes by violent means. If you lived in his time you would be criticizing him as a thug for attacking the money changers. The historical Jesus was just as radical as any “leftist” agitator, and fought the same fight.

  7. BSR
    April 29th, 2015 @ 12:46 am

I think there is still some argument that can be made to your point. What ‘injustice’ was done to these people that somehow justifies their tearing apart businesses? Is it not an injustice to trash another man’s livelihood?

A man was mortally wounded while in police custody we don’t yet know why or how so it is improper to jump to conclusions. And because of this one man, it is now justified for these young people to run rampant and destroy their own neighborhoods? They’re not just trashing ‘business people’ they’re trashing their own neighborhoods and the livelihoods of their neighbors.

What happened to ‘love thy neighbor’? Did Jesus not encourage unity? This is anarchy and violence.

No, really, I just fact-checked myself and she actually said something along those lines:

The origins of the magical content of the pagan cults can be traced back
to the fairies, who were a real, neolithic people, smaller in stature than the natives of northern Europe or England. They were a pastoral people who had no knowledge of agriculture. They fled before stronger, technologically more advanced murderers and missionaries who had contempt for their culture. They set up communities in the inlands and concealed their dwellings in mounds half hidden in the ground. The fairies developed those magical skills for which the witches, centuries later, were burned. . . .

We now know most of what can be known about the witches: who they were, what they believed, what they did, the Church’s vision of them. We have seen the historical dimensions of a myth of feminine evil which resulted in the slaughter of 9 million persons, nearly all women, over 300
years. The actual evidence of that slaughter, the remembrance of it, has been suppressed for centuries so that the myth of woman as the Original Criminal, the gaping, insatiable womb, could endure. Annihilated with the 9 million was a whole culture, woman-centered, nature-centered — all of their knowledge is gone, all of their knowing is destroyed.

No, the opposite of hating beauty is not minding it.

For example, take the statement “If it rains today, I will take an umbrella.” If you have an umbrella, does that mean it’s raining? No, you never said you wouldn’t take one on a sunny day. Having an umbrella is not the opposite of it being sunny.

Likewise, we can mock people for hating beauty without revering it — although you have to admit, it’s nice to look at.

Now that you quoted it, I recall reading it before, but it was one of those things I’ve been trying to unread. =)

Still, your “hobbit holocaust” comparison was perfectly concise…I wish I’d thought of it.

Made me think to write a short story about a civilization of feminists subjected to … … oh wait, that would have to be troll holocaust, or ogre holocaust, or at best case, golem holocaust, wouldn’t it, and then metaphor ruined.

Everything that you say is true, with the caveat that there are men who are entirely superficial, just as there are women who are.

True story: I’m an insatiable knowledge devourer, so I’m all over the internet. Turns out that makeovers and makeup tutorials constitute an entire genre.

I saw this one set of about a dozen before & after photos of young women getting “porn star” makeup, and literally all but one looked worse to me in the after photo — and the exception was because she looked so bad in the before photo.

In Matthew, chapter 5, Jesus said these things:

“You have heard that it was said: ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth;’ but I say to you, Do not resist the evil; but whoever strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other to him also.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy; but I say to you, Love your enemies; bless those cursing you, do well to those hating you; and pray for those abusing and persecuting you, so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven.

“For if you love those loving you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same? And if you only greet your brothers, what exceptional thing do you do? Do not the tax-collectors do so? Therefore, you be perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.”

Jesus overturned the tables and scattered the animals of the money-changers because they defiled the temple of God by turning it into the Mall of America.

Jesus associated with sinners (which is everyone); He did not condone, suggest, or participate in violent or immoral actions, or thuggery.

Jesus was not a “leftist” by any stretch of the imagination. Jesus was a radical precisely because He did not propose overthrowing the Romans violently, which is what the Jews thought He should be doing, which is why they rejected Him.

He came in the first century as a Suffering Servant, the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world, but will return shortly as a Conquering King.

He would also have known Ecclesiastes 10:2, “The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left.”

If you don’t understand these things, you don’t know Jesus. The time is short. Very short. Repent and believe.

I know about those makeover tutorials…I admit it…I’m part girly girl (and part Joan d’Arc, lol)…I watch them sometimes.

I saw this one, where this English makeup artist completely changed her look, covering her eyebrows with some kinda gorp and selectively applying makeup, until she looked exactly like Bond girl Eva Greene in that Casino Royale movie with Daniel Craig.

You can appreciate artistry, but if the point is simply skanking a girl to the max and making her think that she needs to do that in order to be attractive, man, that’s just wrong.

I hardly ever wear makeup, preferring, as I’ve said, just my smile. I was early to a meeting at work once, when a man I didn’t even know said to me, “You’re not wearing any makeup.” I said, “Neither are you.” He didn’t say another word the whole meeting.

    Happy anniversary, sir!

As for why feminists hate beauty, this essay by John C. Wright may be apropos:

Here is the explanation of the third paradox: If life is a game of pure chance, then the winners of life, the happy people, the rich, the famous, the saintly, all of them must have somehow rigged or twisted the institutions, laws and customs, and all the rules of life to their own advantage. Since all property is theft, all property owners are thieves.

Hence, all life’s winners, heroes and captains of industry and saints and famous artists, everyone worthy of admiration for any reason, all of them, all the winners, the theory demands they be nothing but outrageous cheats.

Also, they must be outrageous liars for denying that they are cheats. Worse, they are all con men for deceiving their victims into playing.

The logic applies to wealth as well as to power and virtue, including such things as applause and glory and dignity. Hence, combined with the pathological and neurotic smug self-sanctimony, the Leftist, as long as he be true his theory, must demean whatever is worthy, true, successful, and good, and reward and praise whatever is unworthy, untrue, unsuccessful, and bad.

When we were teens, my sister was buying expensive makeup kits and stuff, and I thought it was silly. I didn’t have much of a filter back then, and I said something along the lines that it was for other women to put on so that they could try to look like her, whereas on her it would only hide what God and nature gave her.

To this day, she only uses a little coverup and discreet lipstick.

I think, and this is my opinion only, that women are more attractive if their makeup is not noticeable. If youre first thought isn’t “Wow, she’s pretty!” but “Wow, look at all the makeup!” then you’re doing it wrong.

However, my opinion only. If there is one thing I have learned in my life (and there is) it’s that I am not The Guy women are targeting.

The one thing I’ve just never understood is high heels. Dresses, yeah, sure, I guess that they can be cooler on a hot day, and women simply have a lot more style options than men. But for y’all to willingly put those insane shoes on your feet is beyond me. (By the way, I’m 6’2″ while my wife if 5’0″, and she never wears heels. We still manege.)

There was a line from Harrison Ford in the chick flick Six Days, Seven Nights, in which he’s mocking Anne Heche, playing an editor for some Cosmo-like magazine, and telling her what women really need to do to attract men: just show up.

That’s all that’s necessary, just be there.

A hundred years ago, very few women shaved their legs and underarms, because it just wasn’t the style, and people had less access to consumer goods, razors being a consumer item. Yet somehow, some way, the population kept on growing.

Jesus drove out the money-changers for defiling the temple by making faith about profit. If the rioters in Ferguson and Baltimore were concerned with that, then you might have a point, but no.

Also, he would tell them to turn the other cheek. Which they’re not doing.

The one thing I’ve just never understood is high heels.

It basically makes a woman look more like an adolescent, since they go through that coltish phase where their legs are long for their bodies, and over an evolutionary timescale that was a good time to get her pregnant.

That’s the evo-psych explanation, anyway. A little creepy, since now we have a taboo about that, but scientifically plausible.

I will readily admit I am poor at finding bible quotes to support my thoughts on Jesus and Christianity so I am thankful when others are able to recall the verse or section I am thinking of so thank you for your input. I had to go to bed last night and was well aware that there was a troll lurking about.

It is also to remember that the Bible does not say just ‘blessed are the meek’ it also says ‘blessed are the Peacemakers’ and in present circumstances that would be the brave men and women trying to put a stop to the rioting in Baltimore’s troubled streets and bring safety and comfort back to the families who are afraid to leave their front doors and go about their daily lives.

I think it’s stupid to imply that all feminists are (were) ugly and the reason they resorted to feminism was sour grapes.

Gloria Steinem was pretty; Catharine MacKinnon was beautiful; Betty Friedan, while no oil painting, married young and had three kids (and was always disturbed by the lesbianism inherent in feminism).

Nevertheless I do agree that feminists hate beauty, specifically female beauty. The reason being that feminine beauty exposes their ideology as a lie: beauty gives women power over men. This is against their principle of women always being sad little victims, and men being evil oppressors. It’s an inconvenient truth that they have never come to grips with.
