This is the dynamic at the heart of online harassment more generally, which, feminists have previously noted, is largely an attempt to silence women. Gamergate — a movement, ostensibly started to improve ethics in video game journalism, that morphed into a campaign of horrifying, misogynistic comments and threats directed at female gamers and critics — is one infamous example. This harassment, Guardian columnist Jessica Valenti wrote in October, is “the last, desperate gasp of misogynists facing an unwelcoming future” and is essentially the way “straight white men deal with a world that no longer revolves exclusively around them.”

Read the whole thing, which involves a story about a college feminist who was murdered. Police haven’t said anything about the motive for the murder of Grace Mann and, although there has been a great deal of speculation. it is not yet possible to know whether her murder was a consequence of her campus activism.

There is, however, another problem involved here. Neither Julie Zeilinger nor Jessica Valenti nor any other feminist will address the totalitarian climate fostered by feminism’s uncontested hegemony in academia. It is predictable that “straight white men” (why only white men, Jessica?) on university campuses don’t enjoy being constantly accused of misogyny simply because they are “straight white men.”

Exactly what are these young students, scapegoated for the crime of being male, supposed to do in reaction to such propaganda? Who will speak on their behalf? How is any student (regardless of whether they are male or female, whatever their ethnic identity or sexual orientation) supposed to obtain access to any articulate, factual and rational opposition to the anti-male/anti-heterosexual ideology taught in university Women’s Studies programs? Is there any faculty member who would risk disputing feminist gender theory — the “social construction” of the gender binary within the heterosexual matrix — after Larry Summers was purged at Harvard University merely for suggesting that there may be “innate differences” between men and women”?

Nobody on campus is allowed to criticize feminist theory nor to mention the hideous hatefulness of feminist rhetoric. Our universities are teaching feminists that they can lie with impunity, defame innocent people without consequence, and claim victimhood (“harassment!”) if anyone objects to their lies and insults. Every time Christina Hoff Sommers sets foot on a university campus, she is deliberately smeared, accused of being a “rape denialist,” and no one in authority — not a single administrator at any university — will dare say a word against the deranged fanaticism of the feminists who engage in these brownshirt tactics. As I explain on page 54 of Sex Trouble:

“Unless we are willing to oppose feminism now, we may find ourselves eventually living in a totalitarian society where such opposition is prohibited by law.”

And “eventually” could arrive much sooner than most people imagine.

    Oh, absolutely. It seems that the go-to response now when you point out that hook-up culture and the like seems to have produced a generation of discontented, sexually confused women is that “That’s just because of the patriarchy conditioning them to believe that sex is special! Therefore we need to be encouraging more casual sex, not less!” In a way, patriarchal conditioning serves a lot like repression in Freudian psychology: a handy cover to conceal any contradictory evidence.

    How exactly does a man have an insatiable urge to demean, conquer and control everything around him… and then lose all that desire for power merely by being a person of color, or by performing a sex act on other men?

    In other words, how does being gay completely wipe out the conquering drive of being white?

    And how would being non-white mitigate a man’s desire to conquer? Clearly, there is “rape culture” in Africa! (In fact, I might even take the quotation marks off that!)

    Stacy and I discussed this case well over a month ago. It’s difficult to understand why 3 coeds allowed a 30 year old man to move in with them. It’s equally difficult to understand the basis of the claims that the university failed to protect them. The only thing we could conclude was that information is being with held in deference to the victim’s father a judge and alum. As the facts are now only one conclusion can be made. These feminist organizations are using this young woman’s murder to further their political agenda without any evidence connecting her murder to online threats. Such a tasteless and insensitive display is all the proof anyone should need to understand how sick these fanatics are. What else would you expect from Valenti?

    I’d say you’re confusing critiquing an ideology with critiquing a demography. Criticizing the KKK isn’t going after whites and going after this hateful ideology isn’t going after lesbians. What percentage of lesbians do you thing are radical hateful feminists? Given human nature I’d say a small percentage.

    On the other hand notice what these very feminists do. Even the relatively mild Anita Sarkeesian goes after the demography in video games as the source problem, not one of an American failure of culture. it’s men and misogyny and patriarchy and that’s that.

    I can see how these oppression things get started. I’ve been oppressed, so now maybe I want to think about taking a course in gender studies or something. Or carrying around a can of carb cleaner (you’ll see why, later).

    As a critical backstory to my tale of oppression, I should mention that I have long, pretty hair, parted on the side, and sweeping over the right side of my face, partially blocking my view to the right. And, I want to keep my long, pretty hair, because it is the last remnant of my lost youth. And also, the master bathroom in my house is huge, like the size of a normal bedroom.

    So, getting on with it, Mr.DM – heretofore known as the “oppressor”, “patriarch” or “patriarchal oppressor” – complains to me about there being a fly in the house, as if I care. Instead of waiting for nature to run its course (i.e., let the cat kill and eat it), he listens to one of his ninny patriarch buddies, and buys these canister things that have fly strips in them. They look like a roll of 35mm film, and the fly strip pulls out like film would, and as about as long and wide. He hangs them up in the house somewhere, like this is some classy decorative element or something.

    Last night I get up in the middle of the night to go to stagger into the bathroom, critically, it turns out, without my glasses. I use up the rest of a roll of TP, so I go over to a rack thing where we keep extra TP and other bathroom junk, to grab a roll. In the course of flipping my long, pretty hair out of my face, it gets stuck, from roots to ends, in one of those damn fly things that the oppressor hung up.

    The strip pulls out easy, but, as it turns out, leaves some excessively sticky goobery stuff in my hair. And, it’s my favorite piece of hair in the front, which has a really cute sunstreak that runs the length, and I want to keep that, too.

    So I start cursing and go to the sink and stick my head in and try to rinse it out. No go. So I get some shampoo and try to wash it out. No go. Then I try to rubbing alcohol. No go. So now I’m cursing AND crying, because trying these things has spread the goobery stuff. By now, the oppressor gets up to rag on me about my sobbing, and he suggests, being an ignorant rape apologist and all, that I CUT OFF THE ENTIRE FRONT SECTION OF MY HAIR AT THE ROOTS. I mean, what is he thinking? “It’ll grow out”, he says. Shyeah, in about 8 years or so, and then meanwhile I walk around like a dork with these short stumps of hair sticking out in front? I told him I’d cut my hair if he’d cut off a couple of inches of his junk, seeing as how he won’t be needing that anymore, anyway.

    Then the real oppression starts, when he suggests trying to clean the goobers out with CARB CLEANER. This patriarch wants me to put CARB CLEANER in my LONG HAIR!

    So I went back to the bed, and sat up for TWO HOURS gingerly brushing my hair until I got the goobery stuff out. I think. I’m not really sure.

    I’m afraid to go outside, because what if flies start following me around? Or get stuck in my hair? Or what if a palmetto bug or a dragonfly gets stuck? Plus, there’s bats in the trees outside, and maybe they can smell the goober residue.

    The patriarch was the cause of this whole thing! This, right here, is how women become feminists, I’m sure.

    Well of course they are. This is obviously a personal crime of some sort. How can one assert this guy was radicalized against his own housemates by outside agitation on some app? That doesn’t even make sense. Surely he knows his own mates better than strangers. This has nothing to do with hate speech and everything to do with a simple crime. Last I checked, only he gets arrested and only he should bear the blame. It’s like a guy murdering his wife cuz of the news.

    Super! Great! Couldn’t agree more as a matter of fact.
    Is there anyone on this planet (who is not a Muslim) who doesn’t agree with any of that? Now then, what exactly is the problem here?
    Do these perpetually dissatisfied womyn believe that there’s a secret cabal of Hetero-normative patriarchs who engage in secret meetings somewhere in Luxembourg or West Virginia where they plot the condoning of rape on college campuses? To what end if I may ask?
    I mean, we all know about the Bilderbergers, the Galactic Zionists and the Republican Party’s declaration of War on Women, but these campuses are bastions of progressive liberalism and the breeding grounds of successive generations of Democrats. What do these gals suppose is going on?
    Perhaps this is like the Occupy Movement, where when asked why and what they wanted to accomplish the answer was basically “well…because, just…uh…because!

    I fear they are nearly all sociopaths who, dissatisfied and failing at living a normal existence find it easier to lash out because…well…uh…just because.
