The Trans Cult and Gender Hypochondria

“Medical students’ disease (also known as second year syndrome or intern’s syndrome) is a condition frequently reported in medical students, who perceive themselves to be experiencing the symptoms of a disease that they are studying.”
Wikipedia

Question: Are young people being psychologically damaged by exposure to a cacophony of information about “gender” and sexuality?

The transgender cult has been accused by many critics of exploiting adolescent confusion, persuading emotionally disturbed young people that “transition” is a panacea, the cure for all their problems:

When will the medical and psychological professions wake up? . . .
There is an actual process of indoctrination going on on the Internet, and most liberal parents are simply unaware of its power and reach.

Alas, political correctness — backed by the authority of academia, media and powerful LGBT lobbying groups — has made it impossible for any psychologist to challenge the regnant superstition. Anyone can (and should) be whatever they want to be, all the “experts” insist, and those who oppose this agenda are accused of inciting hatred that might cause the helpless victims of “gender dysphoria” to commit suicide.

Suppose a kid is socially awkward, troubled by insecurity about their body, struggling to fit into the teenage dating scene. These are such commonplace woes of adolescence as to be almost universal. Ah, but now we have the Internet, and guess what the awkward teen finds there?

Young people who for some reason feel dissatisfied with their sex often go to reddit’s various transgender communities to ask for advice.
A 14 year old kid asks for advice on two different subreddits about how to talk to family members about gender issues and about medications like estrogen.
On one of the posts, an adult invites the 14 year old to take contact privately. . . .
In the other post, concrete advice about how to obtain prescription medication illegally is given, complete with dosages . . .
This story sounds familiar to anyone who’s been paying attention to the stories many newly trans teenagers post online. An intense period of bingeing on social media accounts of being trans leading to the teen suddenly identifying as trans themselves. . . .
Teenagers have always been struggling to fit in, to figure out who they are, to label themselves. But it’s not until now that discovering your true self involves taking hormones and getting surgery. And it’s not until now that questioning whether it is wise for teens to be getting medication advice online is bigoted.

What is going on here involves suggestibility. Young people are naïve, and when adolescent misfits are trying to figure out the cause of their unhappiness, they are particularly vulnerable to this kind of influence. Sexually confused teenagers often erect a defensive shell to conceal their inner turmoil, maintaining a “good kid” façade that prevents parents from recognizing signs of trouble. Instead, they seek answers on the Internet, where “supportive” strangers are always eager to offer advice. So you now have children as young as 13 getting amateur counseling via Reddit, Tumblr, etc., and cult is not too strong a word to describe the mentality that prevails within these insular online communities.

A brief digression: Remember the Columbine massacre? A couple of teenage weirdos started messing around in “Goth” culture, hanging out with other weirdos and, unbeknownst to their parents, hatched an elaborate plan to perpetrate a bloody slaughter at their high school. After the shootings, people were shocked that warning signs had been missed:

In 1996, Eric Harris created a private website on America Online. Harris initially created the site to host gaming levels he and his friend Dylan Klebold created for use in the video game Doom, primarily for friends. On this site, Harris began a blog, which included jokes and short journal entries with thoughts on parents, school, and friends. By the end of the year, the site contained instructions on how to cause mischief, as well as instructions on how to make explosives, and blogs in which he described the trouble he and Klebold were causing. Beginning in early 1997, the blog postings began to show the first signs of Harris’s ever-growing anger against society.
Harris’s site attracted few visitors, and caused no concern until March 1998. Klebold gave the web address to Brooks Brown, a former friend of Harris. Brown’s mother had filed numerous complaints with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office concerning Harris, as she thought he was dangerous. The website contained numerous death threats directed against Brown: Klebold knew that if Brooks accessed the address, he would discover the content and inform his parents, and likely the authorities would be notified. After Brown’s parents viewed the site, they contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. The investigator Michael Guerra was told about the website. When he accessed it, Guerra discovered numerous violent threats directed against the students and teachers of Columbine High School. Other material included blurbs that Harris had written about his general hatred of society, and his desire to kill those who annoyed him.

If this kind of red flag about a potential mass murder could be overlooked, how much easier is it to ignore signs that your kid is struggling to cope with adolescent sexual problems? And in the same way that Eric Harris used his America Online account as an outlet for his problems, many kids today are secretly turning to social media and online forums as a way to deal with their “gender” issues and, in most cases, parents don’t have the slightest clue of what’s going on.

One reason I have spent two years hammering away at radical feminism is that so many people are unaware of what kind of craziness is being fomented in the name of “equality.” The destruction of due-process rights in campus sexual assault investigations is an example of how extreme ideas can make their way into “mainstream” acceptance, and we see a very similar phenomenon in how the transgender cult gained influence.

Consider the case of Florida State University junior Rachel “Charlie” Andelman, “a female-to-male trans person who felt that transition was absolutely essential for me to continue living”:

Now, I didn’t always know that I was transgender. For me, it took a lot of self-exploration and discovery, not to mention countless hours of research and reading before even learning the word transgender. I went through stages: In ninth grade, I identified as a bisexual girl, but I was unfortunately outed to everyone in my small private school. I didn’t get a great reaction — some girl told everyone while I was at home sick, and when I returned the next day I was literally mobbed by questions and insults. A horde of people surrounded me and shouted obscenities at me. In tenth grade, I tried conforming to the compulsory heterosexuality that my school seemed to love at the time in a half-hearted attempt to avoid more bullying. I grew my hair out and talked about having crushes on boys because that’s what girls were expected to do; it quickly became a self-defense tactic. In eleventh grade, I publicly owned my sexuality, believing myself to now be a lesbian. I fought to start a Gay Straight Alliance at my school (and was its inaugural president the next year), and even dated a girl briefly. But none of these labels felt right to me. By the end of that year, I thought back to everything I had seen and read and realized: Oh god. That’s me. I’m transgender.
I didn’t come out until October, 2014, at the start of my freshman year of college at Florida State University. Ironically, I was placed in the all-girls dorm. My roommate was trying to figure out her own sexuality at the time, and we ended up coming out to each other the same night. We were watching the show Once Upon a Time, and I turned to her and asked, “You know how I don’t go by my birth name? Would you mind trying out different pronouns for me?” She hugged me and told me of course she would, and within a minute of returning our attention to the show, she blurted out, “I’m a lesbian.”
She and her family were incredibly supportive of me while my parents were struggling to get used to the idea; I don’t really know what I would have done without her. I ended up telling every friend I made from that moment on that I was trans, and all of them fully respected my name and pronouns.

This kind of narrative is becoming surprisingly common in recent years. Why? My suspicion — an educated guess — is that we are witnessing an unexpected consequence of a hypersexualized youth culture. Forty years ago, when I was a horny teenager growing up in the Bible Belt, we were “working on our night moves,” as Bob Seger sang, in a society where all the responsible forces of grown-up society were trying to stop us. Kids didn’t have 110 cable channels to choose from, and there were no cell phones or laptops (because Al Gore hadn’t invented the Internet yet) and information about sex was almost as difficult to obtain as sex itself. Fast-forward to the 21st century, however, and kids are growing up in a world where they are bombarded with sex — sex! sex! sex! — from every direction. Afternoon reruns of sitcoms like Friends, Seinfeld, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory are full of sex-related storylines, many primetime TV programs feature gay characters, and any kid with Internet access can find a cornucopia of hard-core pornography.

Growing up in a culture shaped by this media-driven sexual tsunami — even if you protect your kids from it, most of their peers are exposed to it — many young people are psychologically traumatized. As bad as a constant diet of sex-saturated media is for adults, what is the effect on kids trying to form their identities amid this pornographic onslaught?

Back when we were “working on mysteries without any clues,” to quote Seger again, our direct experience of sex (or, at least our hope of achieving such experience) was not so confused by the kaleidoscopic proliferation of cultural scripts with which teenager are today confronted. Whatever confusion we experienced was authentic, rather than the result of trying to conform to some prefabricated “gender identity” in the LGBTQIA Acronym Rainbow. Teenagers experimented and improvised and — here’s the important part — none of our sexual activity was approved by grown-up society. We were all wicked sinners engaged in fornication, consumed by carnal lust and, as bad as was the threat of punishment in the eternal fires of Hell, we knew we would face hell right here on earth if our parents ever caught us.

Sex was bad and dirty and wrong, and that was half the fun of it, really.

Yet here in the 21st century, Rachel Andelman felt the need to “identify” as bisexual at age 14 when, in point of fact, Florida law doesn’t even consider 14-year-olds capable of consenting to sex. By the time she was a junior, she came out as a lesbian, already sufficiently fluent in radical feminist jargon to invoke “compulsory heterosexuality” as a force of patriarchal oppression. (When I was a high-school junior, heterosexuality sure as heck wasn’t “compulsory,” or else I’d have been getting some of that action.) Whether or not Rachel Andelman ever could have been heterosexual, had a mad scientist erased her memory and transported her in a time machine to 1976, is one of those interesting questions that must remain forever in the realm of hypothetical speculation. Certainly there were many teenage girls back then who were awkward and confused, but they didn’t have the Internet to tell them what to do about their confusion, whereas Rachel Andelman did “countless hours of research and reading” before arriving at her transgender destination at age 18.

Oh, and what a strange coincidence that her freshman roommate at college was also going through a sexual identity crisis. Except it’s not a coincidence, it’s a trend. Isn’t everybody in college going through a sexual identity crisis nowadays? LGBTQIA — pick a letter! Any letter!

When I was in college, freshmen went out for Rush Week and pledged a fraternity. Now, kids pledge a sexuality. Is there a hazing initiation after you join a sexuality during LGBTQIA Rush Week?

It’s easy to joke about these kooks, but while the transgender college girl looks like a comedy from an objective point of view, can you imagine the mortification of parents whose kids get sucked into this cult? One day you have a daughter named Rachel, and then . . . Well, watch the video:

So now “Charlie” Andelman is all over the Internet. More than 2,500 people have watched that video, and another 1,200 people have watched this video in which “Charlie” shows off “his” surgically-altered chest:

As I say, it’s easy to laugh at the absurd results of this bizarre Frankenstein experiment. The “man” produced by hormones and surgery is a pathetic simulacrum, a sort of flesh-and-blood costume manufactured in the guise of “treatment” for an alleged disorder that Rachel/“Charlie” self-diagnosed with the enthusiastic assistance of her/“his” Internet friends. Yet this is not a comedy, it’s a tragedy. Our hypersexualized culture is producing traumatic effects, including the kind of gender hypochondria which led Rachel into an obsession with the idea of becoming “Charlie” simply because she was so frightened by the difficulties of being what this culture says a girl must be.

OK, that was a amateur diagnosis I am not qualified to give. I’m a journalist, not a psychologist, but I know crazy when I see it, and I’ve been studying radical feminism long enough to reach a few educated guesses as to how our society has descended so far into this vortex of madness.

“Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” — all the clever minds of the elite intelligentsia told us that Scientific Progress was the answer to our problems. Just get rid of the ignorant prejudices of so-called “common sense,” said the experts, and forget about those ridiculous Bronze Age superstitions you inherited from a wandering tribe of Mesopotamian shepherds. “Trust us — we’re scientists!”

Somehow the promised feminist utopia of gender equality hasn’t materialized despite 40 years of Scientific Progress. Human nature remains what it always was, and old-fashioned common sense still produces better results than do the newfangled theories of the intelligentsia. One of these days perhaps The Gods of the Copybook Headings may be proven wrong, but so far they’re batting a thousand.

I was just reading CS Lewis and he called it “Scientism.” The religion of science. Thinking science will solve everything.

G.K. Chesterton and C.S. Lewis did so much to expose the errors of modernism. It is to Chesterton that I owe much of my skepticism toward Progress, the idol of the modern age.

Put simply, this “crisis” has been manufactured by severely disturbed, broken, miserable adults who desire to co-opt children into their dysfunction. Misery loves company and if these people can drag enough young people into their own personal hells, they think that somehow they will feel better about themselves. Fifty years ago, such people would be locked up. Now, aided and abetted by the progressive Left as a means of destroying society, they are celebrated.

Stacy, the entire thing boils down to recruiting. Harvesting children as sexual objects. One sexual barrier after another falls like dominoes until it all gets distilled down to permission to screw kids. Sounds like, in the tranny circles, it would be full-on acceptable to be with children in a sexual sense absent the law. As soon as laws are struck down as to age of consent, the last barrier to legal pedophilia will have fallen. As soon as it is determined by whomever that children CAN consent that will pretty much be the end of civilization, a decent one anyway. And it will be the same feminist lawmakers who claim drunk adult women cannot consent because:agenda. Well, no need to protect the children because well, they don’t have children anyway.

Face it, the freakazoid feminists and alphabet soup of sexual depravity of today will BE the lawmakers of tomorrow, many already are, they’re certainly enabling and accepting. Barney Frank of Massachusetts was certainly a perverted and pedophile freak and he was forgiven his trespasses of young men, he was a stepping stone, a barrier fallen. Indeed, the Democrats we have today are not the Democrats of Truman or even Kennedy. Democrats of today wouldn’t think of the laws Democrats of tomorrow, that is, 60 years from now will routinely draft. Sixty? Likely a lot sooner than that, the dominoes are falling very quickly.

I do love it that effete boys who can’t get girls in high school now declare themselves to be preoperative transsexual females, never get the operation, then become/come out as, LESBIANS! Instant rock stars in a society encouraging women to try out for the Shrub-Scouts! For added acceptance, get your lesbian freak on with a transsexual “woman” with a real pecker! Oh wait, is that still lesbian? Can’t make this shit up. In our day, you had to be in a band, play football or have a pocketful of weed and a motorcycle to get laid. Hilarious!

There has always been a weird, hyper-competitive segment of the gay community. For some, it was never enough to be merely gay, so they had to become drag queens. Now the ante has been upped yet again–“Oh, so you’re a drag queen, huh? Well I’m going to have my penis cut off, so top THAT!!” It all seems to mirror and parallel so much of the SJW cult, where a person’s worth is directly related to how many mental and emotional illnesses they have. This won’t end well.

There was a time when the common advice was “You can’t help having the problems you have. What’s important is how you deal with them, how you overcome them. And even if you still have them, it does not make you less of a person”

Now the advice, nay commandment is: “You must have problems. Everybody has huge debilitating problems. If you claim not to have any, then you’re in denial. If you actually don’t have any, then you’re an incomplete person and unworthy of respect or even consideration until you come up with some. The worse, the better.”

Nope, there will be no ill effects from fetishizing dysfunction. Nope, none at all.

    August 5th, 2016 @ 7:41 pm

I’m sure that’s part of it, too, as you point out below. I think it’s deeper than mere sexual gratification, though. The Left wants to destroy traditional society beginning with marriage and family bonds. Thus, it facilitates and encourages the loons in that process. Certainly, legalizing/”normalizing” sex with children does that by removing the protections traditionally afforded by parents. (See, e.g. the numerous public high schools with LGBTQetc. clubs sponsored by that “well-meaning” gay adult who provides “counsel” for troubled kids whose parents are non-supportive of their kids’ “lifestyle” choice.)

Still, there is more than just a tinge of desire to drag others into a pathology in order to avoid the necessary conclusion that one is a freak. The people who push this stuff are unhappy and know the cause of their unhappiness. Better to drag others into it in the misbegotten belief that they would feel “normal.”

Don’t forget: It’s also the drama of it that’s attractive! Their lives become adventures. “Big things are happening to me!”

Another factor: Wallowing in the newness of it. “In my parents’ day, this never could have happened! I’m part of a huge Enlightenment!”

It’s that “We are the ones the world has been waiting for” syndrome.

I was talking to my brother one time about apotemnophiliacs (people who want to have arms and legs removed because they feel that the limbs don’t belong to them).

He said to me, “People don’t come up with ideas like that when they’re living through winter on a near-deserted prairie.”

    True.

This is all a side effect of too much comfort.

I just saw a story about an “adult baby” shop where grown people can go in to sit in a giant crib, dress in diapers, and be bottle fed.

I thought, “What is this species going to be like when robots are doing all the work and they have nothing but time on their hands?”

People had a much saner outlook on sex when they kept and cared for barnyard animals. They saw that every species had its courting habits and rituals that went circling through generation after generation without changing. And no farmer ever paid $1,000 for a steer only to discover that it only liked other steers. Never happened. Never.

They knew that Nature was heteronormative, and they were OK with that.

    We are suffering through affluence.

To tell the truth, I’d much rather suffer through winter on the prairie.

Libertarians drive me nuts with their credo of “As long as I’m not hurting other people…”

I try to tell them (to no effect) that normalizing self-destructive behavior is hurting others.

Just because libertarians don’t think government should interfere with people doesn’t mean liberty-minded individuals approve or encourage self-destructive behavior. The Cult of Victimhood is one of my biggest peeves and I argue against it constantly.

But (and you knew that there was going to be one), these fools are nominally adult. They are entitled to their own choices even if it kills them. We can tell them they are wrong but we cannot make the choice for them. Unless of course we want someone else making the choice for us.

Subsidizing that behavior, that we can’t allow. Not teaching children to examine many options and decide for themselves, that’s our failure.

It’s a matter of being bombarded.

Back in the ’70s, “Rocky Horror” was the only thing young people came into contact with that was in that vein. The rest of the time, they were surrounded by normality.

“Rocky Horror” was an oddity. Now it’s the norm for most youth.

And, by the way, I’m constantly re-watching things from my youth and saying, “Wow, that was the start of a decades-long indoctrination process and I didn’t even know it at the time.”

Most of the “Oh, it’s harmless!” that gets thrown around is out of ignorance. It’s all based on the idea that it’s a crazy conspiracy theory” to think that we’re being propagandized.

As for blowing off the “weak-minded”: Everyone goes through vulnerable stages in life. Everyone. And I really don’t want to live in a culture where the weak-minded are being preyed upon, because then I wind up, as I am now, surrounded by lunacy and fast approaching the point where I’m forbidden to speak out.

LGBTQXYZ howl that reparative therapy is “torture” but this Trans garbage is “life saving”. Here is what this young woman said about getting her breasts removed and “becoming a man”. She says: “My nipples had been removed and grafted back on so that my chest would look more naturally male, but a stitch came loose on the left nipple—my surgeon somehow missed this at my post-op appointment. The nipple then got infected because everyone (including the surgeon) told me it was probably fine and would heal itself soon enough. Eventually it got so bad that almost the entire areola and the nipple in the center had jumped ship. I finally got an antibiotic and it healed, but it hardly looks like a nipple anymore. The other nipple was doing fine until the six-week mark, when I was supposed to be done healing, but then it gave up. My guess is that a subcutaneous suture (a tiny dissolvable stitch under the skin) just refused to dissolve properly, causing the areola above it to become irritated and puffy whenever it comes into contact with anything.

To top all of it off, most of my chest remained puffy and swollen all the way through March and the beginning of April, around which time little pimple-like bumps started appearing along my right incision scar. These pimples burst and made way for three abscesses, two of which became infected.”
    Remember reparative therapy is torture.

That’s a large part of it. People no longer have the day to day existential struggle being the unquestionable raison d’etre for every action and every decision. There was a time when people knew from the earliest possible age exactly what their role was, what their purpose was, and the importance of every person fulfilling their duty as an essential component of the tribes very survival.

Moral relativism, ennui, atomization of society, technology and modernity reducing the importance of individuals from an essential part of a functioning whole to anonymous fungible cogs, and the rise of a pervasive ontological paradigm that voids any view of humanity having a unique teleological destiny or innate sacred worth have combined to create a sick empty society of people filled with alienation, aenomie, confusion, lack of purpose, self loathing, nihilism, diffidence, and enervation who, thrashing in the dark quagmire of moral relativism, are powerless to resist aping whatever new and capricious fad will provide a fleeting external validation. Endless superficial distractions have become necessary to constantly distract the mind from staring into the void. Anything to push back the relentless creeping dread of the abyss.

“People had a much saner outlook on sex when they kept and cared for barnyard animals.”

Indeed, urbanization has deprived children of the opportunity to learn about sex from practical observation of animal life — bulls and cows, rams and ewes, roosters and hens, etc. It is interesting, in this regard, that the Hebrews were a herding people, very much interested in breeding and animal husbandry, so that the “patriarchal” sense of paternal authority and strong sanctions against extramarital sex in Old Testament law could be construed by the secular anthropologist as reflecting a concern for the proper breeding of humans. And we might further see this animal herding culture as giving rise to intense tribalism and clannish attitudes. It has been noted that the Scots (and Scots-Irish) exhibited this clannish attitude developed from their own historic culture as herding tribes. This culture was transported across the Atlantic to America, where it became the “redneck” and “cowboy” culture.

The ancient Hebrew, the redneck, the old-fashioned Sicilian, the Arab — all alike in some ways, such as the concern for personal honor. On a day-to-day basis, I’m wholly civilized, but push my button — insult me — and I become the Celtic berserker, veins popping out in my neck as I struggle to restrain the spirit of the blue-eyed killer.

“… the result of a successful culture that has met nearly every material need.”

Affluence always gives way to decadence, a phenomenon that can be witnessed not only in societies, but in the lives of families. One sees this in the entrepreneur who builds a fortune through hard work and discipline. His wealth is passed on to subsequent generations who lose touch with the values that produced their inheritance, and adopt opposite values. Thank you for reminding me of Abby Rockefeller.

The reason is more simple: everybody wants to feel special and a while ago it was easy to feel special if you were rich (not many people can be rich), handsome (not everybody can be born beautiful or have the money to become one), talented (talent is not split equally among the population), intelligent (see previous one). Nowadays to be special you need to be ghey or transsexual.
Little real life event in a kindergarden (kids aged 4-5): the local lgbt minister of propaganda asks the children “who is male? who is female?” and the children reply obviously as nature dictated. Then he goes on to explain that the children who do not feel their sex they are born with are ‘little stars’. He then repeats the question. This time 6 children out of 18 claim to be ‘little stars’. This is how propaganda and indoctrination works.
If you happen to step by any youtube videos of all of those transsexuals you will notice that absolutely all of them are complete nacissist, all interested in showing off their new boob job, their make up set, immense closet, feeling superior and downgrading anybody else who do now bow down to their superiority.
It is good old propaganda. Third Reich’s propaganda was as needed and important to the plan as tanks and the SS since it was the way in which they have brainwashed the remaining 90% of germans.

One scientist (not an indoctrinated one) went to study some tribes in africa and some amazonian tribes in South america. Regardless what our better of the lgbtzywx community tells us, there homosexuality does not exist. They have to survive against nature everyday, provide food for their families, shelter for themselves, and breed to continue the tribe. Homosexuality, like in the roman empire and in some ancient chinese era is the hobby of wealthy and bored people.

Hear this story which I read on a conservative blog. A father discovers her asperger daughter has been convinced by peers at school and lgbt activists that she is a lesbian, then she was convinced she was really a male and since she was 18 already she was taken to a surgeon to remove breasts. Next thing the dad knows is the daughter (on the spectrum of asperger’s syndrome) coming home mutilated. In a normal world the lgbt mafia would be jailed for manipulation of a person not entirely able to make decisions. But we are in a world where idiots say: as long as it does not affect me. It does affect you, the surgery of that person and the hormone therapy is ultimately paid by the taxpayer. That is you, libertarian.

I found out that unlike the 60s and the 70s it is getting more and more common not to complete the surgery. After all they want to feel special snowflakes and getting the final surgery will be too common and too obvious. Better remaining half and half and pretend that’s the new fashion.

A friend of mine who was a street minister told me about tranny prostitutes who would lure non-locals from the suburbs. The dumb tricks would think they had a “lady” of the evening in their company and take them to a motel.

    *NSFW*

They way they worked was they got on top, lifted their dresses and lowered themselves on the trick, making him think he was inserting himself into slot A, not slot B, IYKWIMAITYD. The dumbass was none the wiser.

I can imagine the guy got AIDS from the encounter, went back to the ‘burbs, had sex with his unsuspecting wife, and infected her with AIDS. AIDS activists looked at the two married suburbanites and said, “See? AIDS can happen to anybody. It is truly a pandemic! Homosexuality is normal, natural, healthy!”

The reality is that the word “gay” = Get AIDS Yet?

“… you will notice that absolutely all of them are complete [narcissists] …”

    Three books you MUST READ:

The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements by Eric Hoffer (1951)

The Culture of Narcissism: American Life in an Age of Diminishing Expectations by Christopher Lasch (1979)

The Vision of the Anointed: Self-Congratulation as a Basis for Social Policy by Thomas Sowell (1996)

All three of these books are helpful to understanding the psychology and personality types associated with contemporary liberalism. You really cannot understand the Left’s worldview without recognizing the underlying mental and emotional factors that lead people to associate themselves with such ideologies.

There was a controversial book The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS by Michael Fumento, first published in 1989, that quite nearly destroyed the author’s career. Fumento based his book on facts, and showed how gay activists were deliberately distorting the reality of the AIDS epidemic for political purposes. Fumento was accused of homophobia, etc., and quickly became persona non grata in journalism. Subsequent research, of course, vindicated nearly every “controversial” claim Fumento made, but this did nothing to remove the stigma of “homophobia” and “pseudoscience” that was attached to his reputation.

What we know is that heterosexual men have a near-zero incidence of HIV infection if (a) they are not intravenous drug users and (b) they never visit prostitutes. Heterosexual women are at higher risk, simply because female genitalia are more vulnerable to infection. Heterosexual transmission of AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa became common because (a) most males are not circumcised and (b) prostitution is widespread along trucking routes. The mucous membranes of the foreskin makes men at greater risk of infection if they sleep with infected women, and the basic epidemiology of sexually transmitted diseases means that the truck-stop prostitute is a health menace.

Do the math: Suppose that a prostitute must turn 10 tricks each day to earn her living. Over the course of a single month, she’s likely to have more than 200 tricks, and probably more than 2,000 in the course of a year.

Now, a call girl in a major city could limit her number of partners by cultivating a regular clientele. She encourages the clients she likes best to become regulars so that she is not always at the mercy of complete strangers. Many of her regular clients will be married men who just want to have a little “extra” outlet, and because such clients will pay extra for a prostitute they particularly like, the so-called “high-class call girl” may need to see only a dozen or so clients a week to make her living.

The truck-stop prostitute is in an entirely different situation. Almost always, either she has a drug habit she needs to feed or she is being coercively trafficked by a pimp. In either cas3e, she cannot afford to say “no” to any client. And nearly all of her clients are strangers, so that over the course of a few months, she has sex with hundreds of different men. Most of these truckers are in the habit of seeking out prostitutes, so that they have had sex with many different prostitutes, each of whom has likely had hundred of partners. In a situation such as existed along the trucking routes of Africa, all it took was for a few truck drivers to get infected with HIV, and the disease soon became pandemic.

My father once told me that he learned everything he needed to know about men and women working on a farm as a boy.

BTW I have read that the prohibition against pork in Jewish and Muslim culture is not due to some supposed uncleanliness. It was because you cannot herd pigs for any distance, and therefore cannot have a nomadic lifestyle and raise pork.

So people hankering to eat some bacon are betraying the tribe.

The Libertarian Party is a such a big tent that it is incoherent. You have that guy who stripped on the podium. Oh yeah, that’s a dead giveaway of a serious political movement.

Other “libertarians” are there for the drug policy. Legalize drugs and half the Libertarian Party would wander away to order pizza and watch Gilligan’s Island reruns.

And then you have that goofball Johnson, who is something I would never have believed existed, a big government libertarian comfortable with using the coercive power of the state to enforce his idea of freedom.

Little l libertarianism is a more consistent political philosophy, from what I can see. It can find a home in the Republican Party (or it used to before the GOP joined forces with the establishment to crush the Tea Party). It can never freely exist among the Democrats, and so-called “liberaltarians” are deluding themselves or blowing smoke.

First, I doubt you could find a libertarian who thought that medical care of any kind should be paid by government.

Second, once you decide to go after people who manipulate those who aren’t capable of making decisions, where does it stop? Do you go after the car salesman? What about the banker pushing a retirement plan? The political candidate? The minister at the local church?

Third, Asperger’s is on the spectrum of autism. There are mild cases and there are strong cases. Asperger’s syndrome does shift perspective, but it’s not a learning disability.

In the US young boys are not getting HIV from other young boys. They are getting infected from adult men. Mark my words this fact will become the main LGBT argument for to reduce the age of consent. They will say doing so “saves lives” and is the end game for the sexualizing of children. Trans plays a huge role in breaking down that particular barrier.
