Polls Show Trump Support Collapse as Campaign Heads to Final Debate

A month ago, support for Donald Trump was within a one-point margin of Hillary Clinton in the Real Clear Politics average of national polls, but since early October, the advantage in the presidential campaign has clearly shifted toward the Democrat. Trump’s support peaked at 45% in the RCP average on Oct. 2, and has since sagged to 41.7% in the head-to-head match-up, while Clinton’s support has increased over the past month from 44.9% to 49.2%. In a four-way race, with Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein on the ballot, Clinton enjoys a 7.3-point lead (46.3%-39%) in the RCP average. Examining the Electoral College map, RCP’s average of state polls show that Clinton at this point would win 333-205, carrying every “swing” state except Ohio.

With the final debate scheduled tonight, headlines suggest Clinton’s current momentum could enable her to further increase her lead:

With less than three weeks until Election Day on Nov. 8, can anything turn this campaign around? Or is as I said on Oct. 8, is it already over?
