ACORN Returns as ‘Occupy’

Posted on | December 11, 2011 | 15 Comments

When the radical group ACORN was shut down, Jeff Quinton at Quinton Reports reminds us, the state and local chapters of ACORN reconstituted themselves as new non-profits. And guess what they’ve been up to lately?

In more than two dozen cities across the nation Tuesday, an offshoot of the Occupy Wall Street movement took on the housing crisis by re-occupying foreclosed homes, disrupting bank auctions and blocking evictions.
Occupy Our Homes said it’s embarking on a “national day of action” to protest the mistreatment of homeowners by big banks, who they say made billions of dollars off of the housing bubble by offering predatory loans and indulging in practices that took advantage of consumers.

One of the groups identified in that story — “Neighborhoods Organizing for Change” — is a spin-off of ACORN, and investigative reporter Matthew Vadum notes that the Working Families Party, an ACORN political front group, was involved in the Occupy Wall Street movement “from Day One.”

The tactic of “occupying” foreclosed homes was a high-profile tactic of ACORN in 2009, Quinton notes.

UPDATE: And in other “Occupy” news:

Anti-Wall Street activists
look to block West Coast ports

Anti-Wall Street protesters, hoping to briefly cripple a key supply chain of American commerce and re-energize their movement, plan to attempt to block major West Coast ports on Monday.

Question: What, exactly, is this intended to prove? Whom is supposed to be benefitted by this? Is this some kind of “mainstream” movement on behalf of the middle class — as our friends in the liberal media would have us believe — or is it a tiny fringe of Marxist radicals?

UPDATE II: Welcome, Instapundit readers!

It’s like the Lernaean Hydra. Cut off one head and another one grows. We just have to keep chopping.

ACORN was always going to be tough to stamp out despite the repeated serial evidence of fraud and wrongdoing on their part at offices and operations across the country.  They are an outlaw organization that lives on the government dole.  And, no, only direct money to the “old” ACORN was cut off, subsidiaries, offspring organizations, and the like aren’t affected, and there are many programs in many agencies which were not affected by the de-funding law.

How was Barack Obama ever a “community organizer”?  Sure, he served on a couple of boards of non-profits, but these were funded by foundations and government subsidies and were well-heeled groups.

The only work he once pointed to as actual “community organizing” was his work as ACORN’s attorney.   As their vote and benefit frauds became more well know, he de-emphasized the connection, but I am unaware of any other “community organizing” Obama did.

So they have low friends in high places . . .

And ACORN is a close partner with Obama, a decades long member and affiliate of ACORN.  So we have a president encouraging lawlessness in yet another way.

    Wonderful.

With a new administration, hopefully we can get these assholes RICO’d.

Acorn suggests it turning into something noble, like an oak tree.

Crabgrass is a better description for this group.

Realistically, and new President is going to have his hands full with more pressing matters (ie like dealing with Obama’s crappy economy and disastrous foreign policy legacy) than to pursue what would be cast as a partisan attack on a segment of the political opposition.

I love the whining about “predatory loans” made to minorities living in certain neighborhoods and the failure of regulators to stop such loans; loans made ONLY because banks were told to loan money to minoirites living in certain neighborhoods or face the wrath of the regulators.  Its the classic liberal damned if you do and damned if you don’t dilema.

I’m sure a new President with a majority-Republican Congress can scrape up enough money from cancelled boondoggles to fund a couple more U.S. Attorneys to pursue Acorn corruption full-time.

All President Gingrich need do is threaten to zero-out the National Endowment for the Arts and in all the commotion the MSM will relegate the much less important Acorn Goes To Prison story to page 23 of the P section.

To be able to effectively root-out and destroy all of the arms of the community organizing syndicate, you first need to understand how it’s structured and how it operates.

Stanley Kurtz’s Radical-In-Chief explains it all as does Matthew Vadum in his book [neither of whom can be described as ‘nutters’].  If I were elected President, I would assign a Special AG to read both books and then get to work [I’d also assign him or her a very savvy PR spokesman].

Hard to believe no one is calling them a “NOC off” ACORN group…

One of the groups identified in that story — “Neighborhoods Organizing for Change” — is a spin-off of ACORN

ACORN was the principal actor in the 1980s and early 90s in pressuring banks to make these loans. They used their familiar tactics: occupying banks lobbies, demonstrating at the homes of bankers and at the schools of the children, with signs saying “so-and-so’s father is a murderer” and the like They put on suits in the 90s and heavily lobbied Congress, Fannie and Freddie, with the able assistance of our pals Barney, Chris and many others. Fannie Mae went from having zero percent subprime mortgages in its portfolio to over 50%, at the direction of Congress. Now, ACORN calls the very loans it spent decades forcing banks to make “predatory.”

It is part and parcel of a cynical plan by ACORN and its allies in the American socialist movement to cripple and crash the nation’s financial institutions. Remember that these people are Alinskian revolutionaries, using deliberately deceptive rhetoric coupled with violent “action” (a word derived from the communist movement to mean violent thuggery or other lawless acts,) aided and abetted by a leftist media and a radicalized Democratic Party, to achieve its goals. So far, I’d say they are succeeding quite well.
