Asking the Important Questions: Why Does Gillian Anderson Want Me to Blog About Her Teenage Lesbian Affairs?

Posted on | March 15, 2012 | 34 Comments

Yes, it’s been a week since my last Instalanche and, while I sincerely doubt that Professor Glenn Reynolds would want to encourage such absolutely shameless link-baiting, I’m otherwise mystified as to why any attractive celebrity would make this kind of confession:

Gillian Anderson, the actress best known for playing agent Dana Scully on ”The X-Files,” has admitted she’s had romantic relationships with women in the past.
Speaking to Out, the actress talked about how in her youth she was voted “Most Bizarre” and “Most Likely to Be Arrested.” Embellishing on her desire to shock at such a young age, she admitted to having a relationship with a girl, “for a long time when I was in high school.”
When asked if that meant a lesbian relationship, Anderson says, “Yeah, yeah, well it’s … You know, I’m old enough that I can talk about that.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Anderson downplayed other same sex relationships she had. “If I had thought I was 100-percent gay, would it have been a different experience for me?” She continued, “Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It’s possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.”

Let me be the first to say that unless she’s prepared to publish video proof — or at least a few grainy old Polaroids — I can only conclude that Gillian’s just making up this stuff in order to stoke the kinky fantasies of her fans. Or maybe her “I Was a Teenage Lesbian (Kinda)” story is about signaling that she’s cool with the whole gay-rights “No Bullying” thing.

Either way, it’s an obvious P.R. stunt, and the only reason I’m writing about Gillian Anderson is the off-chance Instapundit will link me, so I can enhance my traffic with what is, quite frankly, just another lazy round-up of links topped off with a tasty slice of cheesecake and a clever headline to lure in the readership. Like the Big Man says, Time to clear the freaking browser tabs!

Why? Because you know that’s what teenage lesbian Gillian Anderson would want you to do — in your dreams.

UPDATE: POH Diaries rubs salt in my wounds:

I didn’t realize that she and Stacy McCain had so much in common. Now we now know thanks to Playboy, Meghan McCain has an obsession with Hunter S. Thompson. Hmmmm.

Weird, huh? Here’s the difference: I’m a professional journalist. Meghan’s a rich brat exploiting her second-hand fame and big titties.

Therefore, I’m exploiting her second-hand fame (and big titties) by writing about Meghan — as a professional journalist!

No, I’m not proud of it. But that’s what I’m doing.

UPDATE II: Dan Riehl is mildly amused by Meghan. And by “mildly amused by,” I mean, coldly contemptuous of.

Playboy Reads Dan Riehl “for the articles” — heh!

UPDATE III: In case anyone should accuse me of “misogyny” toward Her Bratness, permit me to point out that the list of young conservative women in New Media with more talent than Meghan McCain is almost infinitely long. For example, Katie Pavlich of Townhall:

Just a day after the DCCC issued a 250 word email mentioning the “War on Women” four times and just two days after Hillary Clinton warned women of “extremists” in America looking to take away their rights, TIME Magazine is out with a cover story all about women. The cover story isn’t about how women are oppressed in America, but about how women are now out earning men and bringing home the bacon.

But the liberal media don’t celebrate conservative young women like Katie Pavlich — or Mary Katharine Ham, et al. — do they?

Why, then, do the liberal media luvvvv Meghan McCain, huh?

That’s what we call “a rhetorical question,” Meghan.

UPDATE IV: It might be worth pointing out that I once got a lot of traffic for the headline: “Dana Loesch in Playboy?

Remember: I am a professional journalist!

Stacy, I saw this over at Ace’s perhaps its time for a second look at Ms. McCain:  MCCAIN: I love, love, love Hunter. I read Fear and Loathing: On the Campaign Trail in high school and loved his take on politics. I love the way he wrote with such disregard for authority and the status quo. I’ve been considering getting his quote “Buy the ticket, take the ride” tattooed on my body, but I haven’t decided. I told my friend, and she said it sounds really sexual, so we’ll see.

Yeah, I saw the quote. And Meghan’s friend certainly wasn’t the first to catch the potential double-entendre of that HST motto — but let’s not go there, eh?

I’m shocked and disgusted.  Shocked Gillian Anderson had a lesbian affair and disgusted it was before camcorders, cell phones and Facebook.  Thanks a lot.

Dan Riehl has the Meghan McCain Playboy interview and you and her share more in common than your last names…  Meghan also confirms she is “strickly dickly” when it comes to sex.

she always has been…and every guy I’ve dated had a major thing for her as Scully; my husband said it was the whole repressed, cute smart girl who  just needed a little prompting

It was obviously Ms. Anderson’s screen persona that was so intriguing if that be the case.

I saw two lesbians in the parking lot at the supermarket tonight, driving a new Honda CR-V with a custom Obama-Biden wheel cover on the spare. I think at least one of them was not 100% gay.
