‘You Better Back It Up’: Security Guard Tasers Aggressive Woman on Video

Posted on | March 24, 2013 | 26 Comments

What led to this dispute at an Atlanta mini-mall in January, I don’t know. This video went viral and already has more than 2 million views. By the time the security guard’s camera starts rolling, two obstreperous women are hurling the “n-word” and various obscene slurs at the guard, who repeatedly warns them to leave. Finally, after one of the women physically assaults the guard, he zaps her with the taser:

Via Donald Douglas at American Power (“Ghetto Mom Tasered“) and Big Fur Hat at I Own the World (“Meanwhile, The Left’s Enemy is Anyone Trying to Keep This Culture From Spreading“). As you watch the video, notice that the guard kept trying to go back inside the mall, but returned to the entrance because these women — and their ill-mannered children — continued causing a ruckus on the sidewalk. The guard was simply trying to keep the peace, and these women wouldn’t let him. From Christian Moore and Mike Morris of the Atlanta Constitution, the shocking sequel:

The security guard who became an internet sensation after posting videos of himself fighting crime at downtown’s Metro Mall was arrested late Thursday afternoon and charged with battery.
Atlanta police officers were called to the mall near the Five Points MARTA station after Darien Long, 45, allegedly tackled a patron to the ground unprovoked. . . .
It’s been a tough week for the vigilante guard, who, before his arrest, learned he was fired, effective at month’s end.
“The party line is that they can’t afford me,” said Long, the onsite manager of the mall who became a hero to many for his no-nonsense approach to dealing with criminals. “But it’s not like I make much money.” . . .
Long will be missed by merchants including Francisca Shokane, who owns a hair salon in the mall.
“Before they hired Darien, they used to rob our customers and snatch pursues,” Shokane told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Now it is much better and safer. They don’t come in here and bother us anymore.”
Metro Mall management could not be reached for comment.

Darien Long ought to be a national hero for his one-man war against the Thug Culture. Where’s Bill Cosby when we need him?

    Shocking!

In hindsight: Can’t the security guard call the Atlanta P.D.?

He’s not quite a hero…the dude collaborated with a redditor to scam 2k or so, which the two divided up. I think he’ll manage.

If Obama calls for a “Beer Summit” to work this out whose side would Barry be on, the security guard protecting the shoppers or the ghetto mom representing the local thugocracy?

Funny thing…I had a hand in building that mall. We built the platform and main building over the Southern Railroad tracks. Then smaller contractors came in and finished the individual spaces. Back in ’86 or ’87, Five Points wasn’t that bad.

This guy video’s every one of his encounters.

This guard is a good fit for this area. Andy Griffith might survive but not the Barney Fifes of the rent a cop world.
Most off the police in the area probably thought well enough of him.
Let’s face it. he lives and works in an area that requires actions that rely a lot on making decisions that are tinged in many shades of grey.
    I applaud his efforts.

This is why Atlanta has urban sprawl, and limited public transport.

All Obama and Democrat voters. Just think you are a hard working entrepreneur paying tens of thousands in taxes every year, employing people and any one of these morons cancels your vote.

It would be a toss up whether Atlanta PD or the MARTA PD shows up and their response time will still be several minutes.

When I lived in Atlanta, I thought the public transportation was pretty good…at least inside and right outside the Perimeter of I-285. N/S and E/W trains with plenty of bus service. I’m sure it’s gotten better over the years.

Hence the sprawl – to get beyond the reach of public transport and thugs like those featured above.

The sprawl was evident in the eighties and as it grew, so did the tendrils of MARTA train stations and new bus routes. Of course, the sprawl spreads faster than MARTA can come up with the money for new expansion.

‘vigilante guard’ because he did his guard job? Then police doing their job must be ‘vigilante’ too. ‘Vigilante cops!’ And the word vigilante ceases to have any useful meaning.
    Semantic drainage continues!
    ‘Hey I refute that!’

Mike, it wouldn’t matter. In Montgomery AL, they tried putting a police station in the mall and running out the packs flashing gang signs and fighting.

The local Al Sharpton’s and the SPLC showed up. The copshop closed within a year (too many lawsuits) and the Montgomery mall was closed within three.

Oh I know. We built the platform and building next to the 5 pts. train station. It’s not very big as can be seen in the video. It would be a tossup who would show up…Marta Police or the Atlanta PD. Without the Mall Cop, that place will go down hill fast.
