Not Just ‘Yes,’ But ‘Hell, Yes!’

Addressing the subject of “The Weekly Sarah Palin Segment,” my friend Professor William Jacobson tops me:

I have 93 posts (94 with this one) in my Palin tag, most of which are devoted to responding to Palin Derangement Syndrome. . . .
They make up tales about Palin’s childhood health care, whether she had a boob job, make jokes about her giving hand jobs, claim she “rolled her eyes” when told someone was a teacher, examine the color of her bracelet to claim she dishonored war dead, falsely claim she advocated war with Iran, distort polling about her, attack her intelligence, berate her for recommending followers read a Thomas Sowell column, move next door to her to snoop on her, go after a blogger who defends her on MSNBC, claim her success is because men are aroused by her, go nuts because of her (first) book tour including counting the number of non-white people in crowds, blame her for a turkey farmer’s problems, suggest she contributed to a swine flu outbreak in Alaska, turn her into a pin-up girl for a news magazine, misrepresent her comment about “death panels,” claim she is “too sexy” to be a national politician, concoct the hoax that she didn’t know Africa was a continent, and hang her in effigy – and I post on it.

He’s exactly right. He’s also exactly right that conservatives defend Sarah Palin “not because of who Palin is, but who the Palin haters are.” We hate the haters. And then the professor swings the hammer with such accuracy as to split atoms in the nail:

But as I reflect back on the past two plus years since Palin’s nomination, I’m wondering if an all-out, knock-down, drag-out fight with the Palin haters is just what this country needs most, not least.

Read the whole thing and – Governor Palin, if you’re reading this – hire Professor Jacobson for your campaign team.

UPDATE: A Memeorandum thread, and this headline caught my attention:

McCain compares Sarah Palin to Ronald Reagan

It was that other guy.

    We hate the haters.

    That’s pretty much describes me.

Sarah Palin has potential for national office, but I’m not convinced she’s ready. She’s a decent person with a great background, a lovely family, and values that match mine. But President? Not yet, methinks, even though she was far more qualified in 2008 than Obama is now. I’m waiting to see.

So the reason I like her is what I told a co-worker: she makes heads explode. She draws the cockroaches out into the light, where they can be stomped on. Or at least get disinfected by the sun.

So, yo, lefties! All that attention you’re attracting? I think that it’s a significant part of the reason why the Demonrats were booted out of Congress. People are sick of you.

And part of this, I must admit, is sheer entertainment. After years of unchecked BDS, I’m sick of the left’s penchant for smear campaigns. Alinksy can sit on a bayonet and twirl. Watching them go berserk for such minor and insane reasons is simple payback on a very basic level. They are destroying their credibility…..and that works for me.

I’d jump on this bandwagon if it weren’t such a good example of the concept of “support me, I suck less”. The other side does suck o-so-very-much. Even so I do look forward to the next 12 months. We will see what the new Republicans in the house can accomplish and how much will consist of compromise in order to accomplish a reduction in the rate of government spending rather than a reduction in government spending.

Prof. J is a smart guy and his idea to go after Gwaker was probably legal gold. The problem is that Sarah Palin has bigger fish to fry and I think she knows the importance of “chosing your battles”. Thus, while a lawyer would salivate at the joy of raking Gawker over the coals, to SP it might be a pigstye that is better to avoid. Nonetheless, there are many like Prof Jacobson who are diamonds n the rough i.e. not the usual DC burnished manicure but clear thinking conservatives who should be in the forefront for people like SP. We know he was reporting from the front lines for Scott Brown and NY23 but I agree with you Stacy, he could be directing traffic, not just watching it. Gonna be excting in the next 2 yrs!

Want to make sure Obama wins a second term? Nominate Palin. It will be Christine O’Donnell all over again.

You’re going to see more and more INTELLIGENT conservatives like Krauthammer express their true feelings about the opportunistic flake known as Palin.

  • JeffS

Thanks for endorsing Stacy’s earlier point, SmokeStack.

Let me note that you do have a point here. But if you (and others like you) insist on insulting people who are, theoretically, on the same side of the aisle as you, just how is that going to help keep Obama away from a second term?

The Tea Party formed in large part because the, ahem, INTELLIGENT conservatives weren’t behaving all that intelligently. Or at least, not consistently so.

So, if you really don’t want Sarah Palin as a candidate in 2012, please do us all a favor, and find an INTELLIGENT reason to give us.

    Thank you.

I’ve got 146, most of which also address PDS…

I think he’s another concern troll, myself. It’s getting hard to tell them from Establishment Republicans these days, though.

I thought much the same thing, Wombat_socho. It’s just that I like giving trolls a chance to really stick their foot in their mouths.

  • JeffS

I’d jump on this bandwagon if it weren’t such a good example of the concept of “support me, I suck less”.

Meh, old news. We haven’t seen decent Presidential candidates for a couple of decades….or maybe generations, depending on you look at it. I’ve been voting for the lesser of two evils since Regan finished his second term myself.

But, like you, I’m keeping a sharp eye on this Congress. Only time will tell.

“If the election were held today …” those pundits who observe Palin’s high negatives with independents, and the lack of movement of that number even as independents move toward conservatism and Republicans, would make her unlikely to win a general election would be correct. However, the election isn’t held today, and the trends are not Obama’s friend.

If he had come in and done little or nothing, the nature of the business cycle would have been his friend, and he would have gotten credit for something of a recovery (although even then persistent untreated deficiencies would have remained for the longer term, and the international situation would have mitigated the scope of any temporary recovery and the “bounce” it could yield).

But Obama just thought himself too brilliant, and had to enact policies already known not to work in practice. The European situation is deteriorating fast. He is not up to the challenges the world presents, and unfortunately we are liable to suffer for it. Barring some miracle, probably a Dan Quayle – Larry Craig ticket could beat him.

A year is an eternity in American politics, though. Too early to be making authoritative pronouncements on the state of a race in which the candidates are yet unknown.

Until Quayle dropped out in 2000, I was very much in his corner. He’s smart, Christian and a true blue conservative. IMO, he would have made a far better president then W.

Gov Palin has several advantages over the old & tired contenders
    1) She has been vetted as none has before her.
    2) She is extremely popular, talking American to Americans.
    3) She remains highly in demand and can pick the best spots.
    4) She is diffinetly NOT DC especially not DC GOP.
    4) She uses her popularity to promote America
    5) She stands up for her beliefs in herself & America…no bows from her.
So if the Gov wants to run she gets the GOP nomination and I see no reason she can’t defeat The Won

I suspect that ‘known not to work in practise’ is KNTWIP for Servants of Darkness aka Conservatives, and that the Servants of the Lightbringer naturally discard such notions because of their source.
