I take a brief break from pounding my head with the Auditing review text* to mourn the departure of Don Surber from the Blogosphere. There was some confusion earlier in the week when he mentioned this on Facebook; some of us thought his account had been hacked, but eventually the hideous truth came out. Although he was having a blast doing the blogging thing, the workload of trying to maintain his regular reporter & columnist gig at the Charleston (West Virginia) Daily Mail and do the blog got to be Too Much. It’s not an uncommon thing in the blogosphere, but in this case it hit a little closer to home. I’d been reading Don’s blog since before my move down to Alexandria from Minnesota in 2007, and when I started my Career of Evil here at The Other McCain, Don was a frequent linker to Live At Five. It was a big boost to my ego to see that somebody thought my linkagery was comparable to what Lucianne Goldberg, Doug Ross and the folks at Maggie’s Farm were doing, and it was one of the things that kept me flogging the keyboard through the long months when next to nobody commented on what I was doing.
Thanks, Don. Clear skies and many top-down days to you; don’t be a stranger.
*Yeah, it’s pretty much like this.

If studying for the CPA (just guessing).  Get the Becker notes (but don’t take the class) and make flash cards for every single formula and key phrase.

Memorize the flash cards and then do problems, update the flash cards based on how you do on your problems.

Do that for a couple hundred hours and you will pass, easily.

Make your own flash cards. Don’t use premade ones.

Already took the classes, and working on the reviewing flash cards part. FAR seemed ridiculously easy, but we’ll see. Got the other three on Monday through Wednesday of next week.

Maybe Surber got tired of being Photoshopped f-king a tail pipe. And hey, I appreciate your blogging!

I understand his decision, but I’m going to miss the Daily Scoreboard. Don Serber not doing the Scoreboard is:

    EVIL

Surber will be missed – he’s been one of the most dependable and insightful bloggers around for years.

I wonder if he’s had a change in editors or management there, he’s been able to handle all of it well for so long that it’s hard to imagine that’s the real issue.

He says it’s just burnout, and I take the man at his word.

Guilty as charged. I’m sorry. Thank you for your linkery.

I follow some of your content but there’s more linkage than I have time to read. Still, thanks for doing a thankless job.

The Sarbanes-Oxley reporting requirements are a bitch too, if you’re specializing in the financial services area …

Man, I hate SOX so much. Probably going to stick with taxes, but not just for that reason.
