Just Hit Da Tech Guy’s Tip Jar

Gratitude requires generosity and vice-versa. Having fallen drastically behind on my thank-you notes to tip-jar hitters, I am nevertheless grateful for the continued support, and when Pete Da Tech Guy rattled his tip jar, I immediately hit it. Given the circumstances of our friendship and his many acts of generosity toward me, Pete’s explanation of his circumstances is entirely unnecessary. All I needed was to know he was in need. January is usually one of those hard months in Bloglandia. People go overboard on Christmas and, when the New Year arrives, they look at their bank balances and say, “Uh-oh.” So it’s scarcely surprising if there is a need to rattle the tip-jar a bit extra as February arrives.
I can’t stop thinking about the $53 million that Sheldon Adelson pissed away on Republican “super PACs” in the 2012 election cycle. It makes me angry, but I can’t do anything about that.
Pete has done a rather elaborate calculus of how much he would require annually, but (a) I’ve never been one to worry that far in the future, and so (b) let’s just deal with the immediate need. Let’s hope everyone else feels the same: Go hit Pete’s tip jar, please.

In the aftermath of hurricane Isacc NOLA Deputy Mayors, all salaried employees receiving $150k+ stole overtime bonuses in excess of $15k apiece. Mayor @MitchLandrieu failed to comment on this embezzlement and local media for the most part swept it under the rug.
It would be nice if the blatant corruption of elected officials would receive as much attention as the spending habits of eccentric billionaires.

Do, if’n I tell you that we’re starting a $16,000 kitchen remodel, you’ll get people to rattle my site’s tip jar? 🙂

AFAIK, Mr. Adelson earned his money honestly and it was his to spend. I wouldn’t have spent as he did, but I don’t begrudge him a penny, much less feel anger over it.
Anger ought, IMO, be reserved for those borrowing to spend my grandchildren’s future earnings, and bringing such ruin to our free economy as to force me to continue the austerity of the last four years (Greece could take lessons), hunkering down to survive and not in a position to tickle deserving tip jars.

I would if I could, but Christmas, like vacations (and charitable donations) are for those who actually have a surplus of funds. With my wife both having cancer, and being of the 25 million Americans who are either unemployed or underemployed, I just don’t have the means. I’m trying to figure out whether to pay the electric bill or the phone bill…[big sigh]…robbing Peter to pay Paul have been our lot for years.
