The Fear That Dare Not Speak Its Name

An art show in London was cancelled because of fears of Islamic terrorism, and arts writers at major newspapers ignored the cancellation. Mark Steyn has a few thoughts.

The lesson is, if you want to be a bold transgressive artist and stand up to the Man, pick a target that won’t fight. It’s always safe to do a Virgin Mary in dung or show Jesus cornholing Peter.

Leave the barbarians alone. Because they’re barbarians, get it? So utter not a word of criticism of the retarded tribal death cult of the neolithic pedophile prophet. It makes them angry and when they get angry they don’t just write pissy letters and threaten boycotts. They blow things up and hack off heads.

Standing up to savages is a job for professionals. Gender Studies majors just aren’t up to it.

    Bravely bold Unit 24
Rode forth from near the Tate.
He was not afraid to die,
    Oh brave Unit 24.
He was not at all afraid
To be killed in nasty ways.
Brave, brave, brave, brave Unit 24.

He was not in the least bit scared
To be mashed into a pulp.
Or to have his eyes gouged out,
    And his elbows broken.
    To have his kneecaps split
    And his body burned away,
And his limbs all hacked and mangled
    Brave Unit 24.

    His head smashed in
    And his heart cut out
    And his liver removed
    And his bowls unplugged
    And his nostrils raped
    And his bottom burnt off
    And his pen–

“That’s… that’s enough music for now lads,
*** looks like there’s dirty work afoot*** ???.”

    Brave Unit 24 ran away.
    (“No!”)
    Bravely ran away away.
    (“I didn’t!”)
When danger reared it’s ugly head,
He bravely turned his tail and fled.
    (“no!”)
Yes, brave Unit 24 turned about
    (“I didn’t!”)
    And gallantly he chickened out.

****Bravely**** taking (“I never did!”) to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat.
    (“all lies!”)
Bravest of the braaaave, Unit 24!
    (“I never!”)

[I posted this over at Mark Steyn’s column, but the brave folks at NRO deleted it!]

I thought that the “Fear that Dare Not Speak its Name” was Bill Schmalfeldt’s “fear pee”. You know, the kind that finds its way onto Christmas cards, sent by innocuous conservative groups who end up on Bill’s crazy enemies list.

Speaking of which…are we sending the FATASS a card this year?
