The Progressive Spirit Is Breaking

Michael Goodwin at the New York Post gets it wrong in “The American Spirit is Breaking“:
There are many examples that say our spirit is breaking if not already broken. One involves a Wall Street Journal report that, six years after the housing bubble popped and sank the economy, federal officials want to lower mortgage standards again so more people can buy houses that they can’t afford. Been there, done that would seem to be the logical response, but the idea is gaining momentum because so few people can legitimately qualify for credit that the only way to spur housing growth is to junk the standards.
The same thing is happening in schools. Americans overwhelmingly agree that our educational system, once the envy of the world, is now lagging.
The American notion of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is still chugging along. A century of decay in our self-appointed and vastly over-rated elite has wrought significant debt and damage, sure.
The question is whether the basic “In God we trust” ethic has been catastrophically supplanted by “In the State, its ‘experts’ and the pagan, hedonistic, fruitless, and ultimately destructive pleasures they peddle, we trust, despite repeated backstabbings”.
The effects have been devastating, sure: to go the Apollo moonshot to an appalling President who can’t launch a website, in a mere half-century, is a downer. But my contention is that #OccupyResoluteDesk is not a representative sample. It would be better to argue that the variance across a population the size of America is so vast as to make the notion of an “American spirit” too nebulous to pursue.
I hope that the smarmy blue state Progressive spirit is breaking. There is significant risk that the final Progressive implosion will bury the conservatives in humus. Irrespective of that, the basic, God-fearing “American spirit” has by no means been completely vanquished by the Progressive lust for Hell. Let not your heart be troubled. Pray that wisdom find these Progressives, that they repent, even as we put the heat on them in primaries and elections, and kick their foolish selves out of office.
These Progressives have been lying about the ‘recovery’ for long enough. Lies are tactical, like elections. Truth has a strategic character to it, and is going to outlive these lies. Could take a few years. Have faith. In what matters.

Pray that wisdom find these Progressives[…]
Ha. I don’t believe one can expect much with those who are permanently in a state of self-colonoscopy.

I do believe truth rises like cream.

The states are overwhelmingly electing Rs and conservative Rs at that. In 2020 will there even be a Dem bench outside of failed blue state governors (what 10 at most by then) and mayors from places like Chicago and Detroit? The American electorate is stupid, see Obama, but even with the massive voter fraud that elected Obama and Franken, it will be hard to defeat say the successful governor of (pick your red state) with the dog catcher from (pick your blue city that is bankrupt)

Most excellent article, Smitty, thank you.

Like you I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland…and have been praying the past decade (when I moved here) for the collapse of this state’s blue model. Unfortunately, most of the idiots in this state work, either for the state, or the federal government and absolutely adore the idea of higher taxes to pay for ‘services’…

[…] Smitty is right, the signs are that the spirit of progressivism is breaking and that is why it is lashing out so bizarrely (this is one small example). I do have faith that truth prevails, ultimately. […]

This is correct. I think the tide is finally turning. A few weeks ago I saw polling info that showed a majority voters who had come of age under Obama were identifying as Republicans. That has not happened since Carter’s term.
The Kool-Aid distribution centers no longer have any takers. They’re off looking for jobs in the “recovery” and finding none.
Pocketbook issues always triumph, don’t they?

It remains to be seen if these Millenials will be enough to change the course of things. The up coming Mid terms will provide some sense of where things are heading. I guess what I am saying is there still time to fix this at the ballot box or will it come down to physical armed confrontation? Are there enough Patriots to take on the Progessives? Notonly in the election but in the streets if need be? America needs to do a real gut check. NOW!

Yep.
Sadly, for all of their self-colonoscopy, they then turn around and lie about the polyp count. One wonders why they bother.

“Pocketbook issues always triumph, don’t they?”
Without fail.
In the end an individual’s financial well-being and sense of personal security will always win out over their ideological and emotional leanings.

Progressive’s like to engage in class warfare by vilifying corporate entities and the so-called 1% by portraying them as the domains of Republicans and Conservatives exclusively.
They readily swallow the tripe dished out by the likes of Bloomberg, Reid, Pelosi, Sharpton et all without questioning how these liberal demagogues amassed their millions of dollars, multiple homes and lavish lifestyles. Do you see those people giving up their fame, fortune and security in order to create a more fair world and help those who adore them and their ideals?
Progs readily blame their own and society’s failure’s on anyone who doesn’t openly commiserate with them while granting a free pass and ignoring the hypocrisy of those that do.
Whether their woefully ignorant, free loaders or just plain suckers, it’s hard to feel sorry for someone who just refuses to help themselves.
It’s no wonder their spirit is breaking. Like the housing bubble their spirit was built up and sustained by lies and unrealistic expectations to begin with.
POP!
