The @AmandaMarcotte Agenda

So, the New York Times does a feature article about “women’s empowerment conferences” — upscale corporate-sponsored events for career women — and Everybody’s Favorite Feminist™ Amanda Marcotte has “mixed feelings,” because “corporate sponsors have a way of quietly refocusing these kinds of conferences away from the nitty-gritty issues that face ordinary American women and toward elite women congratulating one another for getting increasingly richer.”

You hear that, Corporate Sponsors? Next time, be sure to invite Everybody’s Favorite Feminist™ as a speaker, so she can travel first-class and stay in a swanky resort hotel for a weekend and give a talk about “the nitty-gritty issues that face ordinary American women.”

Keepin’ it real, yo.

What is Mandy’s position on the latest feminist screed, that tampons are a tool of oppression for the Patriarchy?

I mean, if all PIV is rape, what about TIV?

    It’s a slippery slope.

  • Evi L. Bloggerlady

What would they use instead? Clumps of moss?

  • Cactus Ed

Can you remember the last time feminism was relevant, anyway?

Only if they are gathered by wymyn foragers.

Or they might go totally natural and just let it flow, pausing to clean up the legs and vee-jay-jay like animals do, with the tongue.

If this catches on, people with white carpets will begin to give extra scrutiny to their guest lists.

It ought to be remembered that Miss Marcotte has been a success in the capitalist world herself. She came from ordinary circumstances, a bastard child in Texas, was working a regular-person’s job while blogging for free on Pandagon, but, through hard work and perseverance, managed to take her writing skills — not that they impress me, but they apparently impress others — to venues in which she is supporting herself through her writing. She and her POSSLQ move from Austin to Brooklyn, something which normally means an increase in the cost-of-living, and is doing at least reasonably well.

In other words, she is becoming one of the elites!

Her angst is somewhat humorous, in that she frets about the agenda of the elites not being in tune with the struggles of less-successful working women everywhere, but she ought to appreciate, as much as anyone, that the economic system in which she has been able to make a success of herself is the only one which has enabled more than a small minority to escape subsistence living. That perception, I suspect, will always elude her.

Is that is what the cats are for? To clean up any messes?

  • Evi L. Bloggerlady

Funny how they want the patriarchy to clean the bathroom!

Her bio ‘born and bred in Texas.’ WTI and a visual I don’t need. Raised in Texas would have sufficed.

Mayhaps that was the origin of the “red carpet?”
