Seablogger has an interesting post on Eyjafjallajökull (eye-uh-fyalla-yoe-kull, or so) over in Iceland.
A really jolly eruption, in a worst case scenario, could bring about a sequel to the Year Without Summer. As fragile and interconnected as globalization has made things, much less than that could be worrisome.
This post was actually prompted by Uncoverage.net‘s “Fire and Iceland” post. Uncoverage doesn’t seem to know about the Benatar Rule.

    Icelandic volcanoes are interesting because Iceland occupies a point where a core-to-crust “hot spot” (like the ones creating the Hawaiian Islands or the one powering Yellowstone) has hooked up with the Mid-Atlantic Ridge (a tectonic plate boundary). That makes it unique, and especially active.
