Obama’s War on Food

Orit Sklar at Human Events explains how the Obama administration plans to decide what you eat:

In the current regulatory environment, one may be certain that “recommendations” aren’t mere suggestions. The latest example that calls for a healthy read between the lines is this week’s big unveiling of the Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) “Dietary Guidelines for Americans.”
Though presented as an objective analysis of the state of American health accompanied by “what’s good for you” solutions, it’s really a preview of how our bureaucratic betters intend to justify the coming invasion of our kitchens and our dinner plates. . . .

Please Mr. Hussein Obama, do this! Please piss off as many Americans as you can in the short time between now and Nov. 2012. This will be a backlash of biblical proportions.

I am really big on eating well. I am very strict with little man about his eating habits. I don’t allow him to have much junk and no soda. But, I do this because I WANT to. I really resent the fact the government is going to try and force people to eat a certain way. What could be a more basic freedom that what you put on your dinner plate?

Sooner or later, enough people are going to get completely tired of this stuff.

I’ve got strong suspicions that the day is coming fairly soon upon which the FDA and it’s Nanny State cohorts will be told exactly what Corn they can eat, and where they can find it.

I don’t know about y’all, but I don’t plan on being nearly so indirect about the phrasing when I inform them of that, either.

Just eat your mandatory 3 vegetables and 3 fruits a day and shut up already.

Sorry, Charles, but as a diabetic most vegetables and all fruits are bad for me. I’ll stick to the high-fat, low-carb diet that’s allowed me to drop my weight by 50 pounds and cut my insulin by 5/6ths, and if the Feds want me to do something different they can go f*ck themselves with their damn rice cakes.

If companies want to do this on their own (which they are!), that’s the free market at work. If they don’t, then it is NOT Barack Obama’s business.

I generally eat a very low-sodium diet (out of personal preference), and I eat my veggies, but the government has NO place telling me what to eat and what not to eat. Human liberty, people.

Also… maybe it’s just me, but when it’s blazing hot outside, I need salt. Otherwise, I stumble around like a drunk person because my body chemistry is all off. Will I have to fill out some form next time I want a plate of nachos?
