Liberals Love a Greedy Sexist Capitalist

If his name is Hugh Hefner:

What other company does so much for its top guy? Consider this from the company’s regulatory filing, which has a hilariously detached explanation for why it pays the expenses of an old lecher. A passage reads, “Crystal Harris, Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, Karissa Shannon, Kristine Shannon and Kendra Wilkinson, the stars of The Girls Next Door on E! Entertainment Television, resided in the mansion with Mr. Hefner at various times in 2009 and 2008. The value of rent, food and beverage and other personal benefits for their use of the Playboy Mansion was charged to Alta Loma Entertainment, our production company. The aggregate amount of these charges was $0.3 million and $0.4 million in 2009 and 2008, respectively. In addition, each of these individuals receives or has received payments for services rendered on our behalf, including appearance fees.”
Services rendered? Sheesh, CEOs have been sacked for stashing one mistress on the payroll, but they weren’t in the porn business. . . .

That’s from an excellent Chicago Sun-Times column on the finances of Playboy, Inc. While liberals make a big deal of denouncing corporate greed, you’ll never hear them breathe a word against Hefner’s slimy operation, just as no liberal has ever criticized Planned Parenthood’s obscene profits.

Hefner’s a snake, all right, but I don’t begrudge him his money. He saw a market with no suppliers and jumped in, risking everything he had. His fortune was built upon the declining moral standards of our society. He was right.

Liberals scream about the alleged “exploitation” of paying someone $10/hour to scan items through a cash register, but don’t mind the real and soul-crushing exploitation of young women. It’s not just that they focus on the wrong stuff, or stupid stuff, it’s that the progressives pretend that the stupid stuff is the real problem.

I’ve found the absolute best example to use when arguing with liberals about capitalism is Charm City Cakes of Baltimore. Charm City Cakes is the business owned by Duff Goldman of the Food Network show Ace Of Cakes.

You want a cake from Charm City Cakes? Don’t even think about it unless you’re willing to cough up a minimum of $1000. For a cake. Who can afford more than $1000 for a cake? Rich people. But that’s cool. It’s perfectly fine for rich people to shell out a grand for a cake because the company that makes those cakes is cool.

Charm City Cakes is a great example of how a motley crew of misfits and losers can use their talents to make a successful business that depends on the disposable income of the rich.
