Great Video On Democrat Party History

I sort of knew most of this already, but the delivery here is quite good:

In the comments, @porklore is clearly a tool, repeating the ‘parties switched names’ myth. What would the motive of the GOP be, exactly, for giving up the right on the issue of race?

I’m really interested in finding out more about Eisenhower, Johnson, the CRA, and Johnson’s political coup of transferring the taint of racism from the Dems to the GOP. If anyone can direct me to good titles and authors on this, it’s much appreciated.

When Uncle Sugar’s money runs out it’s going to become obvious just how much every sect within the Democratic party really despises the others. Liberalism / Progressivism is just about power & money. That’s all it’s ever been about.

I wonder what it’s going to take.

If  black Americans can’t see what has happened to them by now, then they are in serious trouble.

Not a single one of the black Democrats could stand in a debate with any black Conservative.  And the list of GREAT conservatives includes a LOT of black men and women.

I was a little surprised the video left out mention of Frederick Douglass and Clarence Thomas, or many other important black Americans.

Could Smitty or someone tell me a little more about the “name change myth”? I’ve heard it before when I bring up the racist history of the Dem party but it’s never been explained to me. The Internet was not helpful in this area.
    Thanks.

Not to dispute, but the myth in part is based on the Democratic party of today once being named the Democratic-Republicans.

Good video, but the term should be “Democrat” Party, not “Democratic” Party, shouldn’t it?

My only quibble is that the Emancipation Proclamation did not ‘free the slaves.’  POTUS lacked the Constitutional authority to do that all by his lonesome.  Lincoln’s edict, using his power as commander in chief, only freed slaves in those States that were in open revolt.  By the time it was issued Tennessee had fallen to the Union, was under a military governorship (by Andrew Johnson,) and the slaves in Tennessee remained slaves until after the war was over.

I’m no fan of progressives, but one positive thing that can be said about the early Republican progressives was that they accomplished their goals by being open, honest, and aboveboard – slavery was ended by Constitutional amendment, as it should have been.

And no thanks to the Democrats.

I’ve never understood why the Right like to call them the Democrat party, why they want to identify themselves as believing in Democracy.  Democracy is what the Occupy Soviets are.  The Founders despised Democracy.  The Democratic Party likes mob rule, so we should call a spade a spade*.
