What can I say? This kind of over-the-top histrionics makes me sick. Yes, it’s too bad she’s dead. Period.

I’ve got mixed emotions about you going there — it’s true, but I hate to see those pictures being used to make points.  It would be better if you didn’t have to go there at all; oh well….welcome to the times.

To bad about Whitney too — it’s a shame when people screw their lives up so much, especially when they have a talent which opened up opportunities and advantages that others would love to have.  Once again, oh well…buy the ticket, take the ride.

I disagree. I don’t know why it is so wrong for Hollywood to acknowledge the death of a very famous, once prominent singer/actress. I liked a lot of her songs. I know her death was no surprise however it shocked me that she died so young. I think many of us acknowledge our fallen military as well. It just seems like a bunch of vitriol for nothing. Irregardless, and sadly, a daughter lost her mother to drugs and alcohol. Don’t be hard-hearted folks.

Hardly over the top I’d say. She’s been dead for one day and on the eve of the Grammys Kind of a big deal.

That was my point, Red. Many of US honor the uniformed dead and also remember celebrities in our prayers – but Hollywood only rends its garments for the latter and has no time for the former. There are exceptions, of course, but we notice them precisely because they are the exceptions. I dunno, maybe if I weren’t a military brat and child of the Cold War it wouldn’t bother me so much, but it does.

No need for condescension as my reading comprehension skills are sound. I’m no defender of Whitney Houston but so what if Hollywood chooses who it mourns and who it doesn’t? I just don’t think there needs to be a backlash of hard-heartedness disguised as patriotism. A famous talented lady passed away due to her own neglect. Someone lost a wife and a mother. Those living in military families sacrifice about as much as those who enlist. I think our media has been pretty balanced about showcasing our military families and those serving. Whitney’s fifteen minutes of death will pass. We will still have our soldiers to support, mourn, and celebrate.  Bottom line is I think people are getting too worked up over it, that the knee jerk reaction has been to gnash teeth at Hollywood, while forgetting to just be compassionate. and let the chips fall where they may. You know what is important to you. Shouldn’t that should be enough?
