Hammurabi Rides Reborn

Hammurabi rides reborn,
(So-and-so’s a right blackguard!)
Though I’m not privy to facts,

In each personal regard.
The sudden onslaught of scorn,
Moves me to poetic wax.

As though by mere spoken word,
I could halt the lame attacks,
That email and tweet adorn.

Historical knives in backs,
Are unstabbed as sound’s unheard.
Easier, new flesh is torn,

Than everyone just relax,
In forgiveness be reborn,
And swallow pride gone hard.

Or not. Let’s for past wrongs mourn,
And continue eyeless acts,
Toothless allegations heard,

Useless vows of vengeance sworn,
By adults? So untoward,
Serving only strength to tax.

Interestingly enough, I was taken by the wildly irregular rhyme schemes of Piobaireachd, and thought: What if you wrote a poem like a braid?

The Celts and the Gailes were all warrior poets. Especially after a half litre of Uisce beatha.

Admittedly, I’m rather dry these days.
