    I find it interesting that they say “affordable, quality health COVERAGE”. Nothing about whether you’ll be able to get health CARE at any cost or of any quality. But damn it, you’ll have insurance, whether you want it or not, whether there are any providers to use it with!
    I wonder how many people even notice that bit.

    Some of us have. Almost every innovation that’s moved us away from direct fee-for-service health care — employer-provided insurance, HMOs, you name it — has had the effect of giving more people access to … waiting rooms.

    My daughter is currently unemployed. The ONLY thing she is allowed access to is reproductive servies, you know, free birth control, pap smears, abortion and pee tests. Because she has the benefit she doesn’t qualify for any other type of benefit. She has been diagnosed with a grave illness and is unable to get the help she needs because of HHS rules and regs. She is in a catch 22 situation. I shudder to think what is going to happen to her in the next few months.

    I would expect readers of this blog to have noticed. 8)

    I’ve tried to point out to a few lefty family members and acquaintances that a) it would have been cheaper to just give all the uninsured a policy through one of the many companies out there, but b) even with a “Cadillac Plan” if there aren’t any doctors you aren’t going to get any care.

    Years ago when I first moved to SE CT, I went looking for a new OB/Gyn, and found out I was lucky to only need a Gyn, because if I were to have gotten pregnant, there were NO OBs accepting new patients within about 30 miles of where I lived. I had insurance and money, but no doctors to use it on.

    Yep. Increasing the number of insurance cardholders does nothing to the number of open slots on a doctor’s calendar. If the next available appointment is 4 months from next Tuesday at 7am, does it matter if your “healthcare” is “free”?
