Related to the news on Merkel, I have always wondered if it makes much of practical difference to have a proportional representation system of government when we think of the lives of ordinary citizens.

Wombat, when I came to the site this morning, my antivirus software intercepted some bad stuff. This is the message I got,

Hm. All I have in here is the usual Amazon ad. I don’t know what to tell you.

It had to come from one of the ads. I didn’t mention as a complaint. Just a FYI thing so others can watch and see what happens.
I looked over the page to see if I could see which ad may have caused the ding, but couldn’t find anything. Given what’s been happening, I wanted to let someone know what happened.

I think PR leads to a splintering of the electorate and an increase in the power of marginal/extremist parties, to say nothing of unstable coalition governments. This increases the power of the bureaucracy and alienates the average citizen from politics even as it empowers politicians loyal to the party instead of to particular voters.
