Jackie Wellfonder explains how some wretched young scoundrel evidently tried to blackmail Jeff Quinton in a fight that began over a 2014 Republican primary in Maryland. This is unacceptable.

Jeff Quinton is one of my oldest friends in online politics. I knew Jeff via the Internet for more than a decade before I ever met him in person in 2006 and, basically, Jeff was a blogger before anybody had ever thought of the word “blogger.” His extensive experience in South Carolina Republican politics has made him a valuable resource (Jeff could tell you everything he knows, but then he’d have to kill you) and he was getting links from Michelle Malkin and Instapundit way back in the misty dawn of the conservative blogosphere.

That anyone would try to smear a guy like Jeff — a married Catholic with a year-old baby daughter — is as evil as it is foolish. Jeff has too many friends who owe him favors. We’ve got his back.

    So exactly how is this anonymous threat related to the Lollar campaign? Wellfonder makes that overt claim.

    There is a Lollar staffer or volunteer who is a student at UMBC, and the threat was apparently traced to a UMBC computer. There are over 13,000 students at UMBC, over 800 faculty and nearly 1200 staff members. So from the start you have over 15,000 people who might have had access, more if the computer was in the library or other public access location.

    All of which would certainly favor contacting the university and complaining, and perhaps finding out where the given IP is located and who might have access to it. If this is all the evidence he has, it hardly justifies naming the student he suspects.

    Quinton actually did the same thing to me, over minor charges, simply because I’m affiliated with the Lollar campaign. (You’ve never heard of me because I’m a nobody)

    I, myself, was about to start digging into his past.

    I’m sorry (and I am, no sarcasm, you’re kicking BK’s ass all across the Internet), Mr. McCain, but your friend is a bully.

    I read his post. He says outright he has no evidence other than what I stated. For all he knows another Lollar supporter goes to UMBC and posted that crap completely unbeknownst to the fellow he names.

    I’m all for outing and prosecuting those who attempt blackmail, but suspicions are not proof.
