Ukraine Ready for War in Crimea?
Posted on | March 17, 2014 | 35 Comments
In the wake of a March 16 referendum in which Crimeans voted to join the Russian Federation, Ukrainian leaders refused to cede any part of the peninsula, calling on their troops to prepare for war.
“Crimea was, is, and will be our territory,” said Defense Minister Ihor Tenyukh in a statement delivered at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center on March 17. . . .
When asked whether Ukrainian troops would fight to defend Crimea, Tenyukh replied tersely, “The armed forces will execute their tasks, ” later adding, “Ukrainian forces will stay [in Crimea] until all their tasks have been completed.”

The Covertress summed it up with a pic
March 17th, 2014 @ 5:51 pm
There are things you have to fight for, even if you lose. Frankly, I think the “referendum” was about as honest as any plebiscite run by Nazi Germany.
March 17th, 2014 @ 6:42 pm
It’s not Russians waging war against my religion, it’s depraved liberals like Dan Savage, Bill Maher, and Mikey Weinstein.
It’s not Russians attempting to impose a depraved and vile homosexual agenda upon my friends and fellows, it’s those very same depraved liberals.
It’s not Russians attempting to impose communistic, centrally-planned, politically motivated “health care” upon my family and I, it’s Bolsheviks like Ezekiel Emanuel and Cass Sunstein.
It’s not Russians attempting to squeeze 20 million TB-ridden mestizos into our borders, it’s conniving liberals attempting to engineer a populace for the purpose of permanent elected despotism.
In sum, it’s not Russians waging war against our sacred Constitution, it’s liberals.
March 17th, 2014 @ 6:48 pm
Oh shut up.
March 17th, 2014 @ 7:56 pm
True enough. However, it is Russians who are ignoring their own agreement to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It is Russians who have invaded another country. It is Russians who are attempting to reestablish an Empire in Eastern Europe and Asia.
And, if you think the current Russian regime is a group of high minded, classically liberal, Christian benevolent democrats, you have not been paying attention. In fact, I’d wager dollars to donuts your I.P. address is located somewhere in the basement of Russian Federal Security Service (???).
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:09 pm
The most dangerous enemy we face, is clearly the commies running this country. If that’s your point, I agree.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:13 pm
The Ukrainian Constitution does not permit “secession,” and no one in their right mind – including all those who speak Russian, only idiots assume they want to be reunited with Russia – would prefer to join the authoritarian oligarchy/kleptocracy that Putin has created, with its falling currency and economic stagnation (as Cousin John McCain has noted, it’s “a gas station masquerading as a country.”) rather than the Ukrainian democracy, fragile as it may be, working to protect property and individual rights and to forge closer relations with the US and Europe.
We’ve elected a pathetically weak man as President, and it was bound to affect how our country is perceived in the world. Obama probably sees our diminishing influence under his malfeasance as a feature, not a bug, because his hard left ideology blames America for most – if not all – of the world’s problems.
Elections matter.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:25 pm
Quite so. He grew up steeped in the whole Edward Said school of Western Colonialist Evil (TM) and believes that America and Americans need to be punished. His intention is to make sure we experience what others in less fortunate areas of the world have experienced because their lives are our fault. In his Zero Sum world, our success as a nation meant that the Third World was doomed to be a shit hole. We gobbled up all the success, you see.
But don’t worry. Our impending suffering will make us all better people during the shortened life spans allowed to us.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:26 pm
That’s not his/her point. S/he has been here before functioning as a cheerleader for Putin in all his Machiavellian glory.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:35 pm
There is a great line from Catching Fire, and it goes like this:
Remember who the enemy is.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:36 pm
Not true.
I’ve simply pointed out that Putin’s policies are anti-socialist, pro-Christian, and pro-family. Each of those is pretty well documented.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:39 pm
No. It’s about ensuring that our flag regains it’s standing in the world, and that nations that have placed their trust in ours can be secure in knowing that we support them. It’s about maintaining face on the international stage.
That’s what it’s about.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:40 pm
No need to flatter yourself.
According to Google, my IP address is 68.49.199.xyz. I’m sure the moderator can confirm that.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:41 pm
Well, in case you haven’t noticed, Hussein Obama’s criminal marxist regime is only interested in overthrowing our sacred Constitution.
March 17th, 2014 @ 8:43 pm
Fascism is a form of socialism.
People who arrange for the murder of other people wholesale are not pro-Christian.
March 17th, 2014 @ 10:06 pm
And Putin is cheering madly at the spectacle, tyrant-apologist.
March 18th, 2014 @ 4:40 am
Under these circumstances, Ihor Tenyukh sounds like Baghdad Bob.
March 18th, 2014 @ 7:36 am
He’s not flattering himself. Your IP is really irrelevant.
March 18th, 2014 @ 8:15 am
If Putin was an anti-socialist, I doubt seriously Chairman Zero would have mentioned his future flexibility.
March 18th, 2014 @ 10:32 am
Ok, Putin is evil nogoodnik, Ex KGB, disappeared people, longs for Soviet era powermongery, pretty damned good in a fight. Obama, has backed the overthrow of the governments of 4 sovereign nations and who did he back? Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Muslim extremists in Libya, Al Qaida connected Muslim extremists in Syria some of whom were the same folks we were fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. And now a Neo Nazi extremists group in Ukraine who has overthrown the elected government and expected Crimea to just accept a junta leadership that even many in Ukraine do not. Ok, Obama is evil nogoodnik, New Party Socialist, Communist and Muslim sympathizer, disappeared people, longs for Leninist era, fights like a girl. You want THIS lame excuse for a president to commit your sons and daughters to a military show of force or actual war in order to redeem the once powerful reputation of an America which he does not believe in or defend and which he has done everything within his power to weaken?
March 18th, 2014 @ 10:53 am
Point taken, elections matter here. But if elections matter then why do they suddenly not matter in the Ukraine and Crimea? We know what the Ukranian Constitution says about secession, but what does it say about sedition and the overthrow of it’s elected government with the help of foreign influences? Are we supporting the fragile democracy in the Ukraine or the destruction of it?
March 18th, 2014 @ 10:59 am
That assumes Hussein Obama to be rational, which he is not. He is totally delusional.
Here’s a key example of the totally delusional nature of Hussein Obama:
http://youtu.be/_AvqORJpKxU?t=5m2s
Think about how totally delusional someone would have to be to claim that their election heralds the slowing of the “rise of the oceans”.
March 18th, 2014 @ 11:07 am
I am no Putin cheerleader, I don’t think he is good for this country or the west. However I think he is the man that the Russian people would demand and maybe within their history and culture he is the appropriate leader.
I include the people of Crimea in this estimate.
March 18th, 2014 @ 11:22 am
The domestic enemies of our Constitution are far and away the greater threat in this situation and they need to be the primary, if not sole, focus of our efforts.
March 18th, 2014 @ 11:42 am
Unfortunately, we still haven’t learned the game. We still listen to the lies and get distracted by all the other shiny objects and the next 20 minutes of great media sound bites. I wonder what the other hand is doing. I worry what is left of our great nation to lose.

Putin is all about Putin. He is a Russian Nationalist and a Kleptocrat. Although compared to Barack Obama and his jihad of jerkocracy, I get how Russians would like that (Russia’s neighbors not so much).
March 18th, 2014 @ 12:10 pm
That’s what it is about to the American people, but not Obama. On the international stage he has betrayed our allies and aided our enemies, apologized for and denigrated us as the evil imperialist nation he believes us to be. We have lost much credibility, might, trust, faith and face. Our flag can regain its standing in the world but not under a leader who has so little respect for it or the values it symbolizes.
March 18th, 2014 @ 1:22 pm
I do wonder if the Russians are aware that these states have been over-run by 20 million TB-ridden mestizos without so much as a single shot fired.
If they are aware of the successful invasion pulled off by the mestizos, then that would certainly add to their confidence when its comes to pushing around the likes of Hussein Obama and his neo-Bolshevik cabal.
