    OT: I’m constantly amazed at the ability of our advanced symbiotes, cats and dogs, to adapt to our species’ rapid changes. They can accept changes in how we house them, and in the weird noises that our smartphones make at odd times of night.

    Just a random thought, but it raises the question of how we adapt to these changes ourselves. Frankly, I don’t always find it comfortable.

    You should see parrots adapting — and imitating cell phone ringtones, people, conversations, other animals…

    I worked a little bit at a parrot rescue group–there were quite a few abandoned and surrendered birds after the 2008 financial crisis (caution: pre-owned parrots are NOT for most novices). Of course I ended up with a couple of these feathered descendants of dinosaurs after spending so much time with them.
