An Honest Feminist on Tumblr

Posted on | August 1, 2015 | 42 Comments

She describes herself on Tumblr as “a queer radical leftist. Feminist, anti-gun, vegan, body positive, anti-racist, etc.” She wants it to be known that she hates men:

I fucking HATE men I haTE the way they’re socialized I hate the way they talk I hate the way they take off their shirts like the world wants to see their nasty nipples I hate the way they don’t shave the fucking birds nest in their armpits but throw up a fuss if girls have leg hair I hate the way they think they’re the center of everything and how they erase women’s contribution to literally everything and make women believe that they’re worthless and sexualize women’s bodies I hATE men

She posted that five days ago and it’s got 1,200 notes already.

This is what feminism really is — raw hatred toward men. Some feminists manage to conceal the furious intensity of their hatred, but on Tumblr it comes pouring out as incoherent rage. Men “erase women’s contribution to literally everything and make women believe that they’re worthless”? It’s been a busy week. I’ve fallen behind on my erasing.

    “they erase women’s contribution blah-blah-blah”

Yes, absolutely. Why, only yesterday I competed in a bowling pin match and several (sneers with amused contempt) women had the NERVE to compete. Naturally, we all leered at them while they were shooting. There was even talk of making them shoot in the nude so that we could REALLY objectify their bodies. However, when two of them tied with one of us for first place in the qualification round, we threw them out, hurling insults at them as they left in shame, pledging to each other that they would never be allowed back and their scores would be stricken. Nay, we BURNED the score sheet.

    Oh, wait… That didn’t happen.

I don’t know what sort of little bubble this confused and sad girl lives in, but men generally don’t act in the ways that she decries. Now, I will admit to detesting feminist types who demand to be allowed to do this or that – who even demand that the rules be changed so that they can – just BECAUSE they are women, but otherwise I am content to work and play with women without making their lives the sort of hell this girl seems to live in.

Want to be treated with respect, kid? Then learn to have SELF-respect. Pursue your dreams, do your best, but don’t blame somebody else if they don’t come true. And lose all the self-imposed labels. I think they contribute to your issues.

NB: Perhaps my sexist slip is showing, but I confess to being astonished when one of the ladies, a mature woman of average stature, pulled out a 6″ 357 magnum as her gun of choice; she was edged out in the semi-final round by her son. The lady who beat me was shooting a full-sized 1911. Pink pistols be damned!

I am glad to see women shooting. For one thing, it’s more votes to keep the 2A. For another, it’s more chance that a would-be rapist winds up with a toe tag.

I like the “etc.” thrown in. She really, really, really wants to make sure you know she’s one of “the elect,” doesn’t she?

BTW, you know what I hate? Absence of proper punctuation.

I’m uncertain how someone who is “body-positive” can also write:

I hate the way they talk I hate the way they take off their shirts like the world wants to see their nasty nipples I hate the way they don’t shave the fucking birds nest in their armpits but throw up a fuss if girls have leg hair

If she was really body positive, why would she be combitching about men’s “nasty nipples”?

I s’pose that it could be argued that men who don’t shave their underarms are being hypocritical if they “throw up a fuss” about women who don’t shave their legs, but the first part is just a straight out body-negative statement.

You have to wonder who much of this “hatred” is completely contrived in order to obtain validation from the faceless “others” in the Feminist Tumblr community? Thus, the “C.V.” of feminist, Leftist bona fides at the beginning. The level vitriol contained in many of these things seems exaggerated, if not completely fabricated. As you say, who acts like what she decries in her post.

A men’s equivalent (which doesn’t exist) would depict women as historic congenital retards incapable of fully participating in civilization by way of aqueducts, great canals and architecture. From Sargon to William Morris there is virtually no sign of feminist equality. Men didn’t whip themselves into a frenzy before dismantling and moving Abu Simbel amidst letters like “We can do it!” They just did. There is no men’s movement because it is redundant to belabor the obvious. Water was wet yesterday and will be tomorrow. Gender studies is dedicated to proving water is not wet. Good luck with that project. Not exactly the Panama Canal but children must have their toys too.

    Feminism is a sour-grapes rationalization.

When you clear away everything else — all their odd theory, the specifics of various grievances, their deliberate re-writing of history to create a mythology of oppression — you are left with this: They are abnormal women unhappy with their own lives, who resent the happiness of normal people, and who therefore lash out at symbols of what “normal” means. They demonize men as scapegoats, because by externalizing blame this way they exculpate themselves, denying responsibility for their own unhappiness, while at the same time eliciting applause from other unhappy women who share their self-pitying attitude of victimhood. Once they’ve joined the angry whining mob, they will be told by feminist leaders that the problem is “gender roles” — the normal expectations of human behavior — and this will make sense to them, because they’re crazy.

You see, good mental health requires a sense of personal agency, the belief that you are in control of your own life. Once people start down the road of denying agency — eschewing personal responsibility by externalizing blame on scapegoats — we should not be surprised when that road leads them to the lunatic asylum,

Every person engages in rationalization. We all have our weaknesses that we protect through psychological defense mechanisms. However, mentally healthy people do not heed the voices of those who encourage us to self-pity and who tell us we are victims of malign conspiracies. The feminist’s resentment of males (a sour-grapes rationalization, a hatred rooted in frustration and envy) is elaborated as an ideology by academic intellectuals, organized into propaganda themes by tax-exempt feminist foundations, promoted by scores of feminist bloggers and journalists, and thus gains social prestige as a political movement. Yet ultimately a thing is what it is. Envy is envy, hate is hate and crazy is still crazy.

It’s all projection – projection of “her” self loathing and failure (in her own eyes) as a “woman”. Hence, “a defective society filled with defective men must be to blame” for her unhappiness. Yawn….

What struck me — perhaps you didn’t notice this — is her assertion that men “make women believe that they’re worthless.” Think about this.

There may be people who think I am worthless, but they cannot compel me to accept their opinion of me. If someone despises you, if they reject and ridicule you, certainly this is likely to hurt your feelings, and if you are routinely subjected to this treatment, no doubt the pattern of negative feedback could damage your self-esteem. Ultimately, however, a strong-minded person must recognize that success and happiness in life cannot be contingent on the approval of others. If you consistently do what is right and good, if you are a hard-working person who promotes happiness and encourages success in those around you, no amount of hostile opposition can undermine your self-esteem. You know you are doing good things. Your friends see the good you do. Having earned a positive reputation among those good and wise people who actually know you, the negative opinions of strangers and fools are harmless to you.

Feminists don’t think this way, of course.

Feminists generally aren’t good at thinking.

  10. Dana

    And therein lays the problem:

Ultimately, however, a strong-minded person must recognize that success
and happiness in life cannot be contingent on the approval of others.

The terms “strong-minded” and “Tumblr feminist” may be mutually exclusive.

It is perfectly reasonable for someone to hate people who have wronged them, but when the feminists, and not just the ones on Tumblr, declare that they “fucking HATE men,” they are declaring their hatred for 3½ billion people whom they have never met, nor whom have ever done anything to harm them.

This lovely young lady — the adverb is doubtlessly a microaggression on my part — decries that she hates the way women have to look at men’s “nasty nipples,” but there are cultures in hot, humid climates where no one, male or female, wears a shirt; why would she hate someone who is adapted to his culture and his climate? That isn’t exactly an example of strong-mindedness.

Her problem is exactly the opposite: she is clearly weak-minded, in that she must proclaim all of the world’s ills, and all of her personal ills as well, on other people, on people she has never met, on people who have literally nothing to do with her.

She has first world problems. I am not sympathetic.

    Only if you let it.

The problem is that our Tumblrina has let the fact some men ridicule her for not shaving her legs (or whatever abuse they heaped upon her) damage her self-esteem. Because she is a broken toy, she must declare half of the world’s population to be worthy of hatred to lift up her own spirits.

Me? I don’t care if she shaves her legs. I don’t know her, and even if I did, she’s not my wife, so it’s really none of my business.

This is what feminism really is

This is what a subtype of feminism is. The type subscribed to by Anna Quindlen, Ellen Goodman, and your average schoolteacher does not ‘hate’ men. Rather, they tend to regard men as defective women and expect them to behave more like women (even as such behavior causes them inchoate discontent). Conjoined to this is a stupefying self-centeredness. See Anna Quindlen’s One True Thing or Goodman’s columns on the ‘gender gap’ ca. 1983 or anything she ever wrote about abortion for examples. See Goodman’s columns about George Bush the Elder for other examples.

Adjacent to this more benign and banal sort of feminism would be contemporary girl attitudes given considerable succor by the kultursmog: the mentality which sees men as (alternately) pets, employees, and ATM machines.

I think what you see on college campuses is an alloy of Dworkin and Quindlen. In my experience, academic administrators are a good deal more shifty than Andrea Dworkin could ever manage to be, and a good deal better at disguising their motives to others and to themselves.

Erase women’s contributions? Isn’t that what abortion, the feminist’s blood sacrifice, does? And daycare and public school, which free them of the obligation to, you know, *mother* them? I can’t think of a bigger or better contribution women can make to society than more and better people, and feminists are the ones erasing it in order to become poor imitations of men. Then when they fail to be very good at being men, they blame the men.

I do kinda wish men would keep their shirts on, though. My dad and husband are modest in that way, and it’s kind of embarrassing when others aren’t.

    Exactly.

Every society that intends to continue to exist needs a constant supply of new people, and only women can make new people. Any society which encourages its women to try to be poor imitations of men is a society that does not intend to survive.

    Dear Stoopid Tumblrina Girl,

    “…they erase women’s contribution to literally everything…”

Let’s see…I’m a woman and I designed microchips that are in the Hubble Space Telescope, which is, even now, in orbit. And oh yeah, I helped launch it, too. Don’t see where anybody erased that. For that matter, LOTS of women helped design, build and launch Hubble, but it’s YOU, and only YOU, who have erased their contributions by pretending they never existed.

So…stoopid girl…I think your “literally everything” is literally bs. And also, why don’t you tell us about your contributions? Because I don’t think there are any.

Oh, I take that back. You’ve contributed to the divisiveness of society via your hateful rant. You’ve made another woman feel bad (me), by dissing my actual, real contributions to technology and life in general. And you’ve contributed to the demise of the English language and grammar.

She herself erases the contributions of women engineers, designers, architects, programmers, etc., by claiming those contributions never existed, while simultaneously claiming that “queer radical leftism” and “feminism” is actually some sort of contribution.

I suppose if the “contribution” is the breakdown of society and the increase of the welfare state, then I guess that she is a contributor.

This is very true, and it’s a serious problem in the public indoctrination centers, aka skools. Female teachers seeking to emasculate little boys until they turn into little girls with penises.

Even worthless public skools could be improved greatly with male elementary teachers. Men have a much higher tolerance and understanding of what constitutes order and age appropriate behavior in young children, because this information is no longer taught to young teachers or young mothers. Of course, no REAL man is going to let himself be trained to teach lies and harmful material like Common Core, so there’s that.

But right now, young women who teach have been thoroughly brainwashed until they no longer teach, they only indoctrinate, which is why we see older women teachers retiring early and leaving the profession. And the idea is to turn boys into beta males, unable to appropriately support themselves or their future families, and most especially, to not be able to aggressively defend those families.

It didn’t become common for women to shave their legs, or underarms, until the early 20th century, and somehow, some way, the species din’t die out.

Since the birthrate started to decline just about he time women started shaving, it could be argued that women shaving their legs is harmful to the species! 🙂

The shaving of legs and underarms by women did not happen until said legs and underarms became acceptable to show in public.

If it was done before that, it was done as a preventative against such things as lice infestations and by prostitutes who, as part of their campaigns to attract more clients, wanted to offer something Exotic.

Well, I’ve never met any men who “throw up a fuss about it,” though most are certainly more attracted to women who shave. But I don’t think it’s hypocritical for men to prefer shaved women while not shaving themselves. There’s no evidence that women find it attractive in men to have them shave there. In fact, most women seem to prefer the opposite. If there was evidence that it would help men be more attractive and get more (or better) sex or more women, or whatever, they’d do it. Her claim is almost analogous to saying women are hypocrites for prefering taller or more muscular men even though they aren’t themselves tall and aren’t working day and night to build up their own muscles.
